Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Are you saying there aren’t crazy people on that train?

Because there definitely are ;)

Valheim has volumetric smoke - sometimes there is even dense fog when sailing and on land. Don't know any shopping mall simulator for the trolley but Valheim has push and pullable cart. Dunno what multi-gravy fps is, but Valheim is tps and has carrot soup and turnip stew - I assume there is gravy involved somehow.

Gold sellers in the PU! Say it ain't so!

I mean, SC is ripe for it.
The PU is full of the little darlings...all billionaires with aUEC they've bought on Ebay. I'm praying for a wipe next patch just to get rid of them...I know it's an alpha and the fact that Joe Schmoe having several billion aUEC and every in game buyable ship in his hangar doesn't really matter...but it truly has become a plague. These idiots don't even have to work any of the known exploits to get all that...just pop off to Ebay then go buy a fleet of 890J's in game.

Seriously...I'll have to work hard to contain the gales of laughter at all the salt when they do get wiped, it'll hit me hard enough losing all the ship upgrades and few million aUEC I've earned legitimately since the 3.8 patch...but having that lot log in to their base 5k aUEC and a Mustang after it all gets wiped will be hilarious. None of those buying the instant riches have been around SC long enough to remember the pain of being wiped back to the stone age every patch, since it seems to be all the newbies that are doing it.

Edit: The entire page has been deleted from Spectrum...probably as an attempt to prevent more little darlings rushing off to Ebay waving their $20 notes...

"Some" backers. :) For every Captain Berks who is playing ED there are numerous SC streamers who act like ED, NMS and others are "trying to be SC but failing". None of those other studios are trying to do SC, since it can't be done.
In fairness, and it does earn then some kudos, CIG are seemingly highly capable of proving that what they're trying to do can't be done. All achieved with external assistance as well. I feel a new industry award is needed. Call it the Molyneux award? Or maybe the Cobblers?

The game is constructed with legs in mind, not ships.

This is my main problem with SC as a (potential) game (ignoring the whole overpromising, outright lying and scam-like practices).

They bought a game engine for a first person shooter that was known for high quality pictures (while also taxing the computer - can it play Crysis has become a thing for a reason). They never thought if this engine would be good for space ships and the scale that is involved (can't remember when but it took them a few years to realise they'd need 64bit coordinates to properly model a star system (even at 1/6 scale).

And speaking of immersion, I can't get properly immersed about flying a spaceship when I can't sit in the cockpit seat - without VR it will always be just some pictures on a screen. Wait, wasn't VR promised ... I am sure it is just around the corner.

(Edit: It also means I won't be able to get properly immersed about walking around on a planet in EDO - until they get proper VR support for it. At least I will be able to fly and drive around on those planets properly, with a strange projected image minigame at some points to get some upgrades or something - alpha will tell)

Head/eye tracking helps...just the same as for us non VR players in Elite or flight sims in general. To give Ci¬G their due...the implementation and support of the Tobii series of head/eye trackers has been very good using proper 6 dof with all the settings built in to the game rather than using the Tobii gamehub like Elite or other titles....it also works on foot as demonstrated by Obsidian Ant...

Tried Eye Tracking, it is nice and if I never tried VR before I'd probably be all over it, but now it doesn't cut it - ok, it does beat the VFX-1 from '94 :) )

I know game shouldn't come out until it is ready. But I think these guys are having a laugh.

Started a world with my daughter at last! We took out the first boss. Now trying to get the hang of killing deer efficiently for some armour. That's the main task for tonight's session.

Looking forward to the wonder that is the cart! Never been done before!

There, from the very beginning. They're the first to scream "ITS A PLEDGE" and "ITS ALPHA" and so on. But all of sudden, it's an "investment" as if they'll get any kind of returns on it.
Oi! They really are investing here! Their Return On Investment is 30k a day!! Sometimes twice!!!

I love it when the vegetables act all outraged and start spouting legal terms they have no idea about
We the Pickle of Star Citizen, in order to form a more perfect space sim, et cetera.

and then be delivered a $5 steel chinese junk with "ITS ALPHA DEAL WITH IT" written on it.
Actually, it's self-pickup. What is delivered is a "You are not a fool" letter, signed by CRobber et al.

That one time when ALPHA is better than a released game. Imagine them not being wiped, ever.

The burn, it is strong.
Of course it is! Who the shell is Moluneux, Genuine Roberts is failing on a scale that has never been done before here!

They just need to flick a switch!
More like They just need to flip a sandwich!

Move over Dan Simmons, Peter F. Hamilton, and many others.

Its Chris Roberts that is the real father of the modern space opera!

Maybe he meant to say space soap opera!
Note how the question if they can actually build it was not answered. Did they suspect something back in 2012, eight and a half years ago?
