Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, off I went and after some time (too much) I was interdicted twice. Picked up some more mats from the wreckages and sold the cargo at the station.

Tonight's earnings ~70 mill CR and 12 Arx.

I saw nothing out of the ordinary, but it was a nice little trip.
You old timers/miner guys are crazy. I spent the whole week breaking past my record bank balance of 50M and now have 65M. Still a bit below your daily haul.

I can almost buy every ship from Jaques Station though. I've just decided that I'm going to wait until I'm back in the bubble before I buy anything new. The engineering options out here are pretty useless.
I'm currently on an FC headed back to the bubble. I'm loving the buzz of an FC jump, the sound is fantastic, but I wish you could look out of a window.
I think I'll jump off around 5kLy from the bubble and make my own way from there (tomorrow afternoon maybe).
I'm 81% Pioneer and I think I need to get another 95M Cr in Expo data to make my first Elite and I'm feeling a bit guilty for hitching a ride.
Well done. You're one rank above me but you do tend to take the scenic route.

Also, o7 to Simon's father-in-law. Rest in peace.

This is my Courier. It's slow but carries a fair sized load and can land on small pads. It's very industrial looking.

Another of my ships, this one is more battle-ready:

Looks like Lakon have a foothold in the X4 universe ;)

After reaching the Seagull Nebula, I decided to bum around the Sanguineous Rim filling up my codex. Tagged a Wolf-Rayet, and giant & supergiant O-types, along with some geological and biological sites. Haven't decided how long to carry on for yet.

Just seen my first Glowing Green Giant. I'm told it's full of sweetcorn being converted to popcorn through the process of fission.

I sat on the deck of the FC and pondered my naval for a while.

Regards to 'something different' - Speedcuffs question. I've noticed that the FSD jump glitches at the moment. Seems a bit jerky. I hope it's the game and not my graphics card!

On a lighter note, two thoughts: I was asked for a shot of my ship flaunting its new triple elite decals, but how on Earth do you all get such good exterior shots of your ships, particularly when they're not on a planet's surface? I can manage a shot when I'm out in the SRV, but have no idea how to achieve it when up in space..?

And @Tyres O'Flaherty this might have all the appeal of a slap in the face with a wet kipper, but given there seem to be several in here who have never joined a squadron but who enjoy experiencing lots of varied gameplay, have you thought of starting a thread squadron??? With at least ten members you can have an in-game NPC faction, could have a home base and get into BGS etc. Might have no appeal, but it strikes me that there are enough of us in here. Just a casual thought in passing, to make of what you will. No idea if the squadron side of the game holds any appeal to any of you.

I'm not sure I'd be much use in a squadron. I'd be like the kid who's last to be picked for a school footie match. Oh yeah, that was me.

There is a mode (camera mode?) which initially puts you outside of the craft, it has a HUD on it giving you all the options, up, down, tilt, then you can lose the HUD too. You'll find the activation in your bindings somewhere.

Lol my experience of squadrons is that most of us are not much use for most things. But even handing in some exploration data somewhere helps the squadron stats if you're on the squadron's books. It's likely a daft idea which would be too tricky to get off the ground but I thought it worth throwing out there.

Thank you, I could only get that to zoom in a lot - I'll see if I can play around with it and zoom out some more.

You'll need to (can) assign all the "free camera" controls to your physical controls, then you can fly the camera around, zoom, blur,..., toggle a button, and you can control the ship with the camera either fixed to the ship or to the local reference frame.

That, in Elite explorer circles, is what is known technically as a “Brown Trouser Moment”. Glad you survived!
Luckily, I wasn't wearing trousers!
It's happened to me once before, when I played years back but I thought they'd done a fix where it doesn't happen anymore.
Apparently not.
I got it on video buffer, but not sure how to upload 46Mb vids here. Unfortunately no mic sound, just in-game.

:D

Elite is one of those games which still causes me to shout like a loon at the screen on occasion, invoking the name of Our Lord in futile fashion as I struggle to regain control of a spinning ship. My cat has become inured to the outbursts over time, seated as he is in the best chair for co-pilotage, but he did decide to go elsewhere when my Clipper was caught in a black hole gravity well and was burning up trying to supercruise out of the way recently 😅

That's a fun idea but I wouldn't put all the weight on the head of Tyres.

Gonna upload a vid showing why I need a wingman.
