Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

Frontier, as is their right as the releasing company, have made a decision that they do not want to be associated with a potty-mouthed whining adolescent who has made a 'living' out of vilifying the Frontier organisation without really adding anything constructive as far as I can see. Having lots of followers is not necessarily a marker of kudos... there are plenty of anti-vaxxer sites for example with thousands of followers, but as a medic, I would not want to involve them in our Covid vaccination programme or garner their opinions.
Bottom line, it is Frontier's prerogative and decision that they do not want to align with him, and he can go buy his own Alpha release like the rest of us.
The only shame about this is that he has had so much free publicity which is obviously a benefit when you're a youtuber. Personally I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than listen to his incessant whining hyperbole!

Wider society has agreed values (far too slowly) they believe some of his stuff goes against those agreed values. They specifically mention sexuality in that message. It is agreed throughout most non-demented people, that slurs, or phrases that are homophobic are undesirable.

Toilet humour is not the same as using slurs.

Does yamics do that though? Im not the most qualified expert, but ive only noticed vulgar swearing and toilet humor. The stuff thats discriminatory ive never heard him do. Pretty sure i would have disregarded the guy immediately if i had.

The thing with Yamiks was that he used to be funny. The earlier videos were decent mix toilet humour, mixed with useful information and balanced analysis. I'm not criticising him for the toilet humour, heck where would Lave Radio be with an innuendo or two. However, over the last four years that has shifted from balanced to harsh criticism and then to 'abusive' behaviour. We all know that since the end of Beyond, the game had a serious content drought and they deserved some of the ire sent their way. However, since the fleet carriers, things have really picked up and the game has gotten better with both communications and content, where as Yamiks has gotten worse. I know that most of the 'slurs' he uses are part of his the 'outrage/shock humour' personality that his channel has but even those have been taken too far lately.

When you get to the point that when he's calling upcoming content those kind of slurs, you can't really expect the company to give you a free copy of the game that you're just going to slag off anyway. You could argue that he's giving the game exposure to his 100K followers but with that many followers and with the revenue he's getting from google and his patron's, he can spare the £40 for the alpha. He can continue to stream away to his heart's content. He's not being censored by fdev nor are they trying to shut down him down. It's just they don't want to work with someone with the kind off content he creates. It's their choice because it's their game.

Yeah, truth be told if the issue was just having a key available, I'm sure Steam could have arranged them one more (or even more likely, they have some spare keys in case Braben wants to hand out them at a cocktail party or something).

Just for science, I’ve just managed to make it three and half minutes in to that particular video and immediately can understand why he’s not someone they want to work with. Twice in the last thirty seconds he used a homophobic pejorative to refer to the design/fictional designers of the ship; I’m not at all surprised he’s not been given preferential alpha treatment due to the, to me at least, rather obnoxious persona he has chosen to adopt for his videos. I don’t deny that plenty of people might find that funny, but it’s definitely not family friendly and definitely not someone I’d like to be a premier spokesperson for the new expansion.

Not because he’s critical, but because he’s ridiculously obnoxious about being critical. I’d also like those three and half minutes back please, so I can go back to watching the grass grow.

I have no idea, it's a good question what is the policy with just FDev account keys. I'm under impression that Steam as a distributor doesn't like if you give preferential treatment to another distribution platform, but no idea how it applies to Alpha keys.

I just (tried to) watch his Krait 2 "ship review", OA collaborated with him on that (I wonder if he has any regrets...).

Not even three minutes into his 12 minute clip, it's got it all. Can't vouch for the remaining 9 minutes as I had to stop, but I doubt it'd get any 'better'.

Yamiks was literally the only alpha review I was interested in watching precisely because he doesn't sugar coat his content and gives an honest perspective on on the state of the game. Denying him a key makes FD look like they're trying to hide something and seems like a bit of a PR blunder.

Are FD really so thin skinned, or does a member of the community team just have a grudge against him maybe?

Reading the comments on his YT video about this, there are many prominent so-called "core content creators" rallying to him, and quite a lot of commentary about how mercenary FD are in regards to their treatment of creators.. major backfire for FDev if they thought they could control the message and keep everything sounding positive!

Its kinda remarkable that it just so happens that the only people who defend Yamik because 'they havent heard' anything that everybody else understood from the first page are the same people here who are notoriously frustrated and angry with FD. Its this 'an enemy of my enemy is my friend' kinda thing, and its pretty feeble.

People should think twice about rushing to Yamik's defense just because they themselves are upset at FD. It is possible to be critical of FD and simultaneously acknowledge Yamiks online persona is intentionally crude, offensive and insulting towards large swaths of people for nothing but clicks and ad revenue.
