To be fair those maps were really limited in size/detail, and the engine was a bit derpy.I'm pretty sure I was able to land on and wander about the moon in Mass Effect, and that was like, fifteen years ago.

And buying the alpha of EDO is Pay to Debug ?That's it, donate money is the core gameplay: it's not P2W it's a Pay to Pay.
You're not alone!I'm about the only person I've seen online who actually liked driving the Mako!

FWIW, what EDO does is basically what Mass Effect Andromeda wanted to be: a large universe with procgen locations to raid. Like the small 'no-name' ME2 missions, but with a near infinite quantity. Electronic Arts had to give up after three years because they couldn't get it to work, and scrambled to create a small'ish set of handmade maps. And comparing ME:A with the first alpa of EDO, EDO also has considerably more diverse general gameplay. Plus, you know, the 'flying one of many customizable ships in VR with HOTAS' versus 'click a sprite around on a map'. It really is that impressive. FD seems to succeed in creating a game far more ambitious in size and scale than what EA failed to create with its massive funding and experience.I'm pretty sure I was able to land on and wander about the moon in Mass Effect, and that was like, fifteen years ago.

To test/QC more than actually debut, but yes, it is. Paid alpha/beta is a very cynical practice imho. Not only do you avoid actually hiring/paying the employees you'd otherwise need to do the job, you're also making money on the back of it. And it gets done in worse fashion because gamers being gamers, most just see it as early access to the content and likely won't report a single bug.
I have access as part of the lifepass thingie, but I don't intend to bother, it's not my job. Although the shoddy state of it almost makes me want to install it just to lol at the bugs.
So guys, i know i've been a long time critic of the game and swore that i'd never give CIG so much as a bent copper, but today i decided to get myself a SC pack.
Knowing how rubbish the starter ships are, i decided to add a bit extra and shell out a few hundred for..... lol, no, i can't go on. Not even for April 1st.
Never giving that conman a penny.
That was very convincing. Maybe you should Kickstarter a game or somethingSo guys, i know i've been a long time critic of the game and swore that i'd never give CIG so much as a bent copper, but today i decided to get myself a SC pack.

The practise has been standard with Elite Dangerous since the beginning, it's only since 2.3 that beta testing has been free and open to everyone. Used to cost a fiver to get inAnd buying the alpha of EDO is Pay to Debug ?
Ah, I didn't realise they're no longer selling the privilege. Good on them. The practise has been standard with Elite Dangerous since the beginning, it's only since 2.3 that beta testing has been free and open to everyone. Used to cost a fiver to get in![]()
I stopped taking part in the beta for ED when it went free to everybody...too many muppets with agendas filling up the beta feedback forum with fighting talk that should have been killed with fire and stuffed back into DD where it belonged.Ah, I didn't realise they're no longer selling the privilege. Good on them.![]()

The EDO Alpha for non-LEP'ers is 5GBP more expensive than the non-Alpha pre-order, so while the previous betas were free EDO's is not. In any case, a big advantage to FD is not just what players provide as feedback on the forums, but the build-in metrics with regards to performance and such. They have far more players with far more diverse hardware playing the game than if they relied on only their in-house team. Though considering I have experienced zero crashes and only one disconnect in 10 hours or so of EDO I am pretty sure this went through extensive in-house testing anyway. Its not or/or, and I believe that this can only help with optimization.Ah, I didn't realise they're no longer selling the privilege. Good on them.![]()

But yeah, the fact they charge money for it is wonkey. The fact I paid it probably says something about me too.![]()
The hardest thing in the world is to get FDev to accept your money...I still want the LEP I was willing to shell out Star Citizen money for back in 2015Buying the alpha version of ED also has a reward of the soundtrack (not out yet).
And you can pay an extra $3,000 to get a fully engineered cutter. *
