Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Poorly :D

In EDO, once I had sussed out what all those bits of shiny space plastic I was carrying were actually for, namely the scanner and power transfer utility tool...and picking the right missions to start off until I had enough to buy a Maverick suit with the cutter tool and the right weapons, it was easy meat. The missions were boringly similar but I'm looking more at how they'll play out once the Alpha has been released as Odyssey and I'm there in the full game with a full variety of missions to chose from with my own ships and gear.

I still give a sigh at fading to black getting into a ship though...that'll never go away. Otherwise, FDev done pretty good :)

My one minor complaint as a direct comparison between both games is that the lighting and atmosphere for the stations in EDO is a bit too shopping mall bright, SC's locations are very, very good, differ greatly between locations and the atmospheric lighting overall is top notch...apart from that, I can live with it...

Try disabling bloom. Never been a big fan of it anyway.

But SC's grimdark is a trope that has been done to death, so actually quite enjoying the bright scheme of ED. As someone described it, "bubblegum" style.

Some of the landing areas like New Babbage or Area 18 are well lit compared to the likes of Grim Hex or Levski (when it was there) as I showed in those screenshots ...but even as well lit as those major ports are are, they're still more atmospheric simply due to the lighting, design and attention to detail. Like I said in the post, it was a minor complaint from my initial impression of the early implementation of station interiors in EDO, nothing too major, just different design choices in the end...but the lighting is still off even with the gamma turned right down and bloom disabled, it's whiting out in some sections and way too bright compared to exterior areas :)

What we really pay for is actually simply playing earlier rather than later, bugs and all. We are an impatient bunch!
Personally, why I payed extra for the origjnal Alpha all those years ago, besides a) wanting to play now; and b) the LEP (payed for itself in Horizons); was c) testing my particular combination of hardware, drivers, and software in a testing environment.

That’s one of many reasons why I’m turned off by Star Citizen... I’m willing to shell out a few dollars for the privilege, but not several hundred... especially the company is doing everything wrong from my point of view.

Honestly, if I am not going to bother to fill out form after form and properly test it just for 'the good of the game', I doubt a fiver would persuade me. :p

No it would purely be a goodwill gesture or thank you for participating and providing useful feedback, and why I would only do it after with no hint beforehand that that was the intention. As this is SC dreams.txt thread I could say a PJ or exclusive Decal instead, so you still spent a fiver but got something extra back for being a proper tester rather than just an early access player..

I think Ive worked with Volunteers for too long lol, cant give them money so always try and give them something a bit special for their efforts. Just so they know they appreciated and valued for going above and beyond, even if its just a printed certificate that costs nothing and no time. So I have the same attitude to players who go out of their way to be useful rather than the ones who just post all the make it easier threads or just moaning that something in Alpha doesnt work properly.....or they cant access their ships :)

IMO, you should never feel the need to bring a flashlight while out shopping. If you find yourself needing one, you probably have other concerns than what to buy.

There are at least 5 threads about Odyssey on Spectrum in the other games section.

Lots of positive comments.

Then there is this fairy dust...

Maybe we never see all this in SC. But I'm still excited for the future and still believe in the vision.

Basically after saying SC is better, admits SC might not end up being better but he's got faith.

At least someone is being grounded:

I understand what you’re saying but most of that is imaginary right now. It’s what SC could become not what it is. Odyssey is tangible and real right now and once things become real then they can be criticized. No one can criticize your imagination. I am sure SC will be great if it ever comes out but it won’t live up to what we imagine because thats impossible.

For SC : 45$ to buy the future game and test the alpha, nothing more.

Oh goodness

Good thing that they aaaalways forget to say that phisicalized items are NOT a thing in E.D.... Or the vast amount of armour, helmets, weapons, sub components, shields, mining heads, civilian clothes, that already exists in SC.... Or even the instant loading into the cockpit in ED.... Or that only a veeery small portion of that huuuuuuuge galaxy will be available with this new feature - 1 star system for now.... And I wonder what other game already has that? Hum.... oh yea....

Except, that is a tad misleading, since if every backer paid just 45 dollars...
Darkfyre99 said that he doesn't test SC because it costs hundreds of dollar. If he wants to test, it costs only 54$ (checked the price, 45$ was long time ago). Other backers do what they want, nothing is mandatory.

After visiting all the various outpost types in the Odyssey beta, I have my doubts they'll be much difference between them.
It's good and bad in a sense. Some of the missions, when you land in pitch black and you only have the torch to guide you, and the base is powered down, it's kind'a nice to start having a feeling for where the buildings are. Rambling around and not finding them was quite frustrating at first.

don't pretend you're stupid, we all know by now that SC is not an alpha anymore, at best it is an early access (even if it is buggy as hell), the real alpha is the PTU and to play the PTU, that is to have access to new contents before the others, you have to spend a lot more than the 5 bucks needed for Odyssey.

Anymore? I'd say yet.
