Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ah, down in Yorkshire we had words to go with that tune, that were often sung by the hooligans of the day. I won't repeat them here, because it would be a lifetime ban from these forums.

From my time in Scotland though, the one tune that got the Scots on their feet was this.

And as an Englishman, you did your best to pretend you were Scottish or you made yourself very inconspicuous when it came on. Problem was, where i worked, it was always the last song of the night....
That song is just for the kids who don't remember all the other Corries songs of rebellion. I grew up with this music, listened to it, sang it...even learned the Gaelic pipes to play it ;)

[EDIT: apologies at the start. It's me birthday and I've had a bit too much scotch whiskey...]

I needed that.
ROFLOL.
But seriously, "that's jazz"!

And star cit. OK, on topic. yah?
Anyone have a "REAL" update? Like what is the prospects of SC from the long-timers here? Anyone heard from Dante80 or similar very old posters in fave of SC?
Bagpipes...how to make 100,000 Scotsmen cry. Have the massed pipes and drums play the Black bear and nail their feet to the floor ;) For me as a side drummer every time I hear a pipe band I've got to stick my hands in my pockets to stop them following the drums...

i had the privelege as an exed scotsman (is that a thing? my real name is def tied to me roots...) to be in edinborough a few years ago. My heart! Can't wait to take my kids back. and my daughter says she wants to be a sheep farmer in Scotland,,,, LOL. OMG. She hated the whole trip but now says how much it meant to her. And the Elephant Room Cafe and Harry Potter links. But for real the Edinboro tatoo and just visiting is simply great like many historic sites and events around the globe. The video you linked is awesome. Got to love the humans that rep culture like this. And love live music- no replacement for it. I wish I had the time and money to go to festivals in every culture, it's the best of humans.

And Star Citizen?

Ambition is good, but this tripe is maybe the worst part of humanity? Seriously, why is SC even still a thing? I suppose it's the folks that just don't know better and see a really cool video and get sucked in? Or is it really getting better?

Where is Dante80? What of the SC super-fans posting here from 5 years ago... have they all vanished, accepting the CR dream as just a dream?

Ok...

** Effort Post time ** 😄

Firstly, I just went foraging for some background, and this Agent post does look particularly prescient right now 😄

Looking back over the Monthly reports you can see a bleed over from website backend stuff to game networking for Turbulent:

  • Monthly Report Nov/Dev 2020: Still focused on website / spectrum services seemingly
  • Official Announcement 24th Nov: Turbulent team described as a 'content team' to 'help create entire new star systems'.
  • Monthly Report Jan 2021: 'They also began working on tech designs for services they will be working on this year, including the configuration service used to distribute configurations to services [😁], the identity service that manages player lifecycle and persistence, and ‘shard and instance’ management (formerly known as matchmaking).'
  • Monthly Report Feb 2021: 'Coordinating with devs working on the launcher and directly in-engine, they delivered their first milestone in the server-meshing project. A portion of the team shifted to server-meshing project deliveries, with more to be added as the project progresses.'

Given they're doing work on player persistence aspects and matchmaking seemingly, iCache doesn't seem like such an improbable step.

But the roadmap doesn't provide total clarity on that front. In theory all teams are now added to it, and the Turbulent environment teams is there, as Modular - MTL. You can see their stuff here. But what name is their networking team going by?

iCache was bundled into "persistent streaming and server meshing". Here are all the teams working on that:

7LRVafW.png

  • Engineering (1 engineer)
  • Game Services Team (1 designer, 1 engineer)
  • Mission Feature Team (1 designer, 1 engineer)
  • Network Team (6 engineers)
  • Persistent Teach Team (4 engineers)

So presumably, Turbulent's networking team are one of those. Possibly the Game Service Team, or the Persistent Tech Team?

(I kinda doubt they've moved wholesale into the core stuff. But hey, if Clive Johnson etc disappears from view, and they have actually moved the whole meshing project to Montreal, Server Meshing is even more boned than we thought ;))
everything will eventually be outsourced.
Mark. My. Words.

Seeing as I've gotten back into Elite (thanks to the Odyssey alpha) and noticed this thread chain is STILL going on, I thought I should point out that the prediction I made some time ago seems to have been somewhat optimistic.

Dont be too hard on yourself, your post was 99% spot on and stands the test of time really well imo.

even learned the Gaelic pipes to play it ;)

Now thats a video I really want to see, please record and post one and we can all skip the vending machine repair stuff we been seeing recently...although the subtiles were awesome on that one.

I wish I had the time and money to go to festivals in every culture, it's the best of humans.

If you ever go to Glastonbury spend a day away from the main stages, every cafe or stall or tent has something going on. I saw an amazing Bluegrass band from Texas one afternoon in a tiny WigWam, I was mesmerised, unforgettable experience and every song / tune was different and they explained where it came from and the history behind it beforehand. We tried to outdo the main stage in our applause, I dont think they'd ever had an audience like it either. Awesome is the only word.

awesome. just awesome.

They probably mean they trying to get Turblulent servers to connect to CIG servers to avoid the fiasco last time where nobody told the 3rd party what they were supposed to be doing or on what scale /ratio or whatever it was and it didnt work at all and was just a waste of time and money. :)
The scale of measurement was not communicated and thue $250 MUSD of work has to be scrapped.
Pleasant like the spring rains!

As you suggest you are a veteran please bless us with some details :)

  • when was the last time you read/participated in the thread? Version number or year is sufficient? (9s your quoted entry from 2015 the last one=
  • what was the last thing you remember about SC you were being excited about?
  • have you recently checked back into SC and compared your old knowledge/expectations to the current status quo?
  • whatever you want to share ^^

yes

Some of the old names have vanished tho we had an influx of new ones who all sound similar and of course some old timers who just...cant...stay...away for a long time

Last post seems to be in December 2019.

Internet stalking / doxxing /whatever...what kind of fanatic are you to keep a list?

From a believer on the OverclockersUK forum
i do believe the game will be feature complete in 3 years. i did predict 2024 that this game will have most of teh core features done(salvaging, medical gameplay, exploration)

2 of the above is being rolled out across 3.14 and 3.15/3.16 t0 and if you look closely on the tracker, they are working on new scanning tech and a lil quantum drone u can send out affar and scan a place remotely!

im calling it now, this game will be a masterpeice and many who doubted it will jump onboard in 4-5 years time.

This will be the new "World of warcraft" best popular MMO in the future as you literally can do whatever the **** you want!

Dont like flying ships but just wanna be a bad halo/destiny type guy? sure fps in planet and moon side!

Like mining? sure we have it(Even now its viable)

Like dog fighting? sure we got you covered.

Like exploring new planets/ bioms, caves etc? sure we got you too!

The list goes on.

Its multiple games rolled into one basically!

Heck they will even add base building akin to valheim/fallout 4! what more do you want??!?!?!

I`m not sure he is serious

On the flip side, this is now 2021 in other news.....

If I recall correctly Dante was probably one of the more fair handed posters I ve seen in relation to Elite and SC discussions. At least at the time. I may be wrong but I think he was also a denizen of the original Elite katamari thread in ye old SC forums. I am sure he is still around somewhere.
