ANNOUNCEMENT Hello World! Issues with the new forum? Please post here.

Click on Forum Actions at the top, click Mark forums read. Let me know in a few hours if it goes bonkers again.
Don't panic, Brett, it wasn't a serious report. I debated putting a winking smiley at the end of that post but thought it worked better dry.

Rest assured any sense of recurring déjà vu is less to do with the forum and more to do with its users ;)

Width of [ constrained ] view

It almost seems picky to ask this after so much hard work has been done, but is there any chance of a slight widening of the constrained theme(s), or even a third option that's somewhere in between?

I love the look of Elite Theme [ Orange ] [ Constrained ] on Desktop Chrome. It makes the whole thing much more readable on my 16:9 monitor whereas the default theme is far too wide. I can only imagine what a godsend the constrained themes must be for those with 21:9 monitors.

Unfortunately on the iPad's Safari browser the constrained theme has a few issues:

  • The background is a small section of the top centre of the full image, zoomed in.

  • The forum itself is slightly offset to the right instead of being centred in the browser window.

  • Some of the wrapping for titles and buttons is broken/and or inconsistent due to the narrowness of the frame, and it cuts off many folks' wider signatures.

See images for examples, circled in red.

The first two points aren't really critical and are possibly more a quirk of Safari's rendering engine than of the forum code itself. But I get the feeling it would only take an increase of a few % in width to eliminate the formatting and signature problem which is much more of a distraction.

At the moment I'm spending most of my weekdays on the iPad browser and a couple of evening hours on the PC, so manually switching between the regular and constrained themes twice a day isn't too much of a problem. But if I was constantly bouncing between them during the day I could see this becoming quite an annoyance.

Weird issue: can't type in the edit field of a post when the URL starts with HTTPS.(Using Chrome)
It works when using HTTP.

HTTPS text editing works just fine in in IE9.

Cosmetic glitch:

When clicking Elite: Dangerous to see only forums related to E: D, the International main forum has its own subtitle, but Beta discussion, Fan creations and DDA do not - makes it look like Support & DDA were subforums of International...
And yes, I do see the forum icons showing which are subforums and which are not, that lone divisor just gives such a strong contrary impression at a glance.

Personally I don't like it that the sticky threads don't go unbold when I've read them. They stay as bold as they were.
It was already very hard to keep up with many threads now I just can't see if I've already seen the last post in that thread.

Spoiler tags not working in mobile version (firefox): Clicking the button and nothing happens.

Sorry if I am duping but read as far as page8 and gave up!

Which reminds me; a 'search this thread' option in mobile would be nice!

Generally speaking I love the changes to the forum. It looks and works wonderfully :)

However, and sorry if been previously mentioned, when I click on my name and go to my profile, the page appears white and orange and is not in keeping with the official elite theme which I set. Other than that all good. ;)

After I changed the theme a few times down at the bottom I put it back to the one I like and the problem seems to have gone. :)

So I've seen the same problem occur which is only resolved when I select a theme at the bottom of the page. When I first log in, and the forum uses Official Elite Theme as default, upon going to my profile page various parts of it appear white, as per the Frontier Theme.

I have a very serious issue - I can't post any more!

Well ok I managed to post this but only after finding this post above:

Weird issue: can't type in the edit field of a post when the URL starts with HTTPS.(Using Chrome)
It works when using HTTP.

HTTPS text editing works just fine in in IE9.

I normally read the forum in Firefox over https. Using the new 'Official Elite Theme' I can't put my cursor in any text boxes in order to type. Changing to http is a workaround but not really a solution, I'd like to have some security when I log in and that means https.

Hello there, it's nica to have a forum that works on tablets and mobile also, I do have a problem from my pc, I cant type to reply to a thread, any ideas why is that?
thank you.

Same here, HTTPS doesn't allow replying in both Chrome (v38.0.2125.104) & Firefox (v33.0.1), HTTP works ok.

Edit: ignore me, known issue
For the time being, try to not use the HTTPS version of the forums. http://forums.frontier.co.uk should be fine, let me know if it still tosses out errors.

I can't reply anymore with my windows phone. Every time I go to type in the reply box the keyboard disappears. Is there a phone version on the way?

It good to see that the forum DDA was removed from the section "Off Topic". Even if I find, it is not really in its place at present.

Hi,

I'm having issues in Google Chrome posting any messages - the text box won't let me type in any text.

I've had to switch over to IE to post this message.

Previous forum version worked fine on Google Chrome.

thanks
PAtrick.

Did this get a partial tweak already or have I accidentally changed a hidden setting on iOS Safari? Wide signatures are still getting chopped but the bulk of the text wrapping problems seem to have gone away.

Kudos for a rapid fix if it was deliberate, and :S if it wasn't.
