Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Finally recouped all the cash I spend on the carrier and services \o/

Now... do I go combat kill crazy for elite, or do I do somerthing else? I feel I've done all I want in Odyssey - the fighting part doesn't appeal yet. I want that flora analysis thing to be implemented - I'm not a gardener or botanist by nature but it feels like something I want to do.

I think I'll head to the comp nav beacon for a bit while I work out what goal next.

what rank npc's you getting there?

Tonight I visited the fallen Cmdr Jameson. Showing the respect the moment deserved, I scavanged it descretely and took a few selfies.
I was flying around for a bit on my way to Dav's Hope, when I noticed an info panel telling me I'd got Illicit cargo.
I don't know the difference between illicit and illegal apart from the cardinal rule 'Don't get caught', so I dumped the Battle Weapons and something else in space.
Surely, after 40 odd years the weapons would have degraded and would no longer be illicit?
I would imagine that a future version of Antiques Roadshow has plenty of objects of far more dubious origins.
"...so where did you find this Xeno killing device?" "Well it's a funny story, I found it on a barren moon. How much is it worth?"

Currently watching the NPC's circle above me at Dav's Hope, while I do a bit of re-logging (is that illegal or illicit?) and collect mats.

I'm back in the DBX until I engineer the Krait and Dolphin.

Also, had a brief in-game txt with Codger via the comms panel, I think.
I've never been certain that actually works (or I don't know how to use it). I think it's easy to miss Cmdrs contacting you, and I tend to think it's just NPC chat, but tonight it seemed unusually busy and the messages were full of abbreviations and/or spelling mistakes, so I thought AI isn't that good yet.
I know I've just invoked Skitt's, Bell's or McKean's Law, so apologies in advance, lol.

Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to direct a message to you from inside the ship. The one message I started was from the log-in screen, and then after that I managed to reply, I think.

If I missed anything after that, I'm sorry. It all gets lost in the continuous chat spam I think.

But they are LARGE hardpoints, on a smallish ship. It's a terrible multi-role ship, and I would not want to explore in one, but it's a delightful little combat ship.

I have one I call Bunzilla. Check out them shields :p

Nice. Drop the scoop for Guardian shield reinforcement and you'll be neatly over 2000! Do you find the military hull better than reactive composite? Still building up my vulture, it's a long term project, have prismatics on it but haven't looked at hull, yet.

Just finished in a stint in Odyssey. I have 1mCR now! Woohoo!

My GPU is feeling the strain though - hope they optimise the code a bit more!

In Horizons, my carrier FTC just asked "Is everything alright CMDR? Your flying is eratic." I was hovering above the pad, writing on the boards and got bumped by an NPC. :D

With my lousy flying and HOKAM setup, using a G5 Krait Mk2, am having a problem doing those Elite assassination missions with the single FDL and 2 Vulture goons. Half the time I end up running away or dead or resorting to the ramming with bi-weave 'feature' (which is tiresome).

Is getting a G5 Corvette going to allow me to brute force thru those missions significantly easier than the Krait Mk2? Or even a Conda.

They should be possible in a Krait, especially an engineered one. I have managed to do those types of missions in one :) (Though I usually take ”Splinter” my FDL for that type of work, just because it is more suited to straight combat).

What is your load out? Do you have a coriolis link?

I can only do it half the time in a straight up fight. And mostly with most of my hull gone. Its a multipurpose Krait, not a pure Mortal Kombat build.

That’s still a fruity little number, especially with the fighter bay! It certainly dishes out a good deal of damage. I’d think twice about tackling a Krait I saw coming for me with that outfit, it’s a bit of a beast for a multi-role :)

The only things I could suggest to tweak it would be:

Swap the multi-canons for frag canons, G5 double shot with screening shell. That will mangle your opponents armour much faster, though you will have to get closer in to take advantage.

If you wanted to leave behind the SRV bay and 6E cargo rack and swap them out for module and hull reinforcement for the duration of your mission, you’ll find it more survivable as well. I have a variety of different modules stored in the station where I keep my Krait to do exactly this sort of thing,

You’ll be vulnerable to missiles too. Normally, they don’t really pose a problem, but several hitting at once is going to spoil your day, Swapping a shield booster for a point defence will avoid this. In the heat of battle, I often don’t even notice missiles are inbound until the PD goes off 😅

Aside from the build, I’d highly recommend getting comfortable with FA off turns; you don‘t have to fly FA off all the time, just use it judiciously to execute much tighter turns at the end of a run. The ship will turn much better and get you back on target more rapidly, which can often result in an un-opposed strafe of their hull in full. It’s also very useful for positioning to rake them with the frag canons after getting them with the beams on the run in. It is also incredibly good satisfying fun :)

Your fighter should be able to give you suitable cover to take some of the heat off from the wingmen whilst you are doing it :)

I'm no expert but I think I would feel hard pressed to do much Hull damage with that one. My Krait has two bursts, one beam and two class 2 mulitcannons. So I can bring both burst lasers and multicannons onto the Hull or a beam and two bursts into Shields. I've got those spread over two groups and I swap as I come in for the kill. I also sacrifice power on the multicannons for range. That's because I need to get better.

Yes! They won't be laying out the welcome mat, either. I've never tangled with them, but it seems like one needs some very specific AX equipment to deal with them properly.
I was one system from Maia. There were hundreds of them. I thought it was an FC infestation at first.
Got to Maia, picked up some Meta-Alloys and a bag of chips and straight to Deciat. Luckily, that's only 8 jumps for me now.
I remember years ago going to the Plaiedes and it seemed to take an age, but I was in an unengineered T-6 back then.

I know they live around the Pleiades in abundance; I'd often seen vast quantities of NHSS when visiting Prof. Palin when he was out in that direction, but rather like wasps, they didn't bother me if I didn't bother them.

I do wonder if anyone has thought of going out there with a big can of "Raid" or something :)

Glad you picked up the chips. It would be a shame to go all that way and not have something hearty for the road. Did you get crispy bits as well?
