Friendly Reminder From Fans

I honestly believe that Odyssey is the enabler for ship interiors. In order to appreciate ship interiors, you have to allow travelling on foot. If you're working on a whole new way to traverse the world, you might as well not limit it to ship interiors and allow users to walk outside of the ship and sell that as a big upgrade to the game.

Once moving on foot is figured out and established, ship interiors are just a small step away.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Interiors will need a complete overhaul for this to work, so don't expect it for a long time. There are tons of shortcuts and nonsensical layouts in current cockpits/bridges. The scaling is off, panels/handles float off walls, etc. Most of the rest of the ship interior (aside from the cabin) simply doesn't exist. It's open space between the bridge and the hull. I watched a guy do VR tours of several ships and they aren't even close to what people expect when it comes to being finished.

Even if Fdev does rehaul interiors so we can walk around in our ships, I suspect there will likely be even more instancing issues than we already have. I'm sure the p2p servers will love loading in all those new ship interior textures too.

From a coding point of view, ship interiors and you walking around in every ship in the game would be a total rewrite of all the code required to place 38 ships in the game.

It would take a re-write of the code governing all ships in Horizons as well as Odyssey.

Frontier is just not interested in doing this, financially or otherwise.

It will never happen. Give it up.

I think it might be a lot of performance loss if you fly around in space with ship interior or fight with someone, but why not just have ship interior when you land on a planet or moon and then fade to black, what just a thought considering how big our galaxy is and for those who like a long explored journey.

FDev needs to remember that we, the players, are the ones responsible for paying the devs their paychecks. If they don't deliver what we want, then they don't get paid. Simple as that.

Yes we are. If FDev makes no profits at all, then they can't pay their employees. If no one buys their stuff, where is all that employee pay supposed to come from?

Frontier have been doing quite well these last few years and I doubt a few Commandos on the forums angry because they cant walk around their cockpit will be able to change that.

You still don't pay their salaries Frontier Developments does and if sales for Elite were to crater tomorrow they have other IP they can work on and earn profits from.

I am not going to mention the name of another project I have looked at some, but the one good thing in there for me is immaculately modeled ships with zero cut scenes.

You lower the ramp or lift and walk into the ship, or ride a lift into the ship.

Then you walk around, and the ones who say "Once you do it one time it gets old" have no clue as to what they are talking about.

It might get old for psychotic killers who cannot get to their next victim in time, but for many a highly detailed interior is awesome to explore.

How detailed are they?
Glad you asked, if you walk up to a bundle of wires and look at them closely and single out the smallest of 100 wires in the bundle which might be 18 or 20 gauge or smaller, you can see the writing and numbers on the wire very clearly.

I have not had that project on my PC in a while, but when I do enjoy it, I love exploring every inch of the ships, and discover many new things every time I walk through it.

The wire details is only one small detail out of many many many thousands of small intricate details in the ship interiors.

It is the same for stations and outposts also.

The other project may never see the light of day as a completed game, but I hope that someday I see the same kind of attention to detail as I walk through my Vette, or (really reaching here) my fleet carrier, or even my old faithful Sidey.;

If game developers would be interested in spending a lot of time and wages on ship interiors, there must be long-term profit there.

And what would that be?

1. Furniture and furnishings (ARX)?

2. Another big update with a lump sum?

3. A cost per month?
