Trying to get allied with 'The Shunned' minor faction

"The Shunned" is a non-player faction located in the asteroid base "New Growth" in the pencil nebula. This minor faction controls no stations, has no normal missions available , but strangely has passenger missions. However these missions are reputation locked, and therefore are not available.

I tried bounty hunting with a KWS, but only seem to get bounties for the controlling faction, and random factions from back in the bubble.

Next I tried getting an "idle in system" random mission by loading up on fuel tanks and leaving the game run in supercruise, but this did not work either.

Is stumbling on a long range mission to the pencil nebula the only other method left?

Is there a way to predict when these types of missions will spawn, or what the destinations will be?

I could be wrong, but I think the only one-way "long range missions" you get thee days are out to Colonia. The other deep-space outposts don't get a guernsey. So I'm 99% sure that method won't work either.

Failing (not abandon) high inf missions for the other factions (counteract by also completing low inf, high rep missions) until either
1. you can get your faction into civil war.
2. The factions inf gets high enough to offer missions

Or

Just camp on the mission board. They must offer a donation mission sooner or later

Neither are particularly fun

Another long shot is to look for USS that are related to the faction, and see if there is a mini-mission attached.
Not sure if a faction gets them unless in an interesting State, like I said, a long shot.

As an Anarchy faction they're never going to issue bounties, so that's why the KWS route didn't work.

Non-passenger mission generation in extremely isolated systems can be very odd - you wouldn't expect donation, mining or "fetch cargo" missions to require other inhabited systems nearby, but it seems that they do. (The search radius was I think increased in 2.3 as some semi-isolated systems improved quite a bit then, but not enough to help somewhere that far out)

I've never seen a remote Anarchy system ever ask for a donation. I was down at the Crab Nebula base for several weeks, working to overthrow the Anarchy faction there. The Democracy faction asked for dozens of donation missions (and those were the only missions ever offered there). The Anarchy (which was in power at the time) never asked for a single donation. Nor did they ever offer any alternative mission types; their mission board was always empty.

Anarchists won't hesitate to send you on missions to murder Civilians and what not, but they draw the line when it comes to asking for free money. You got to have some standards ya know ahem

Thanks for all the advice. I will try it on the next visit out to the pencil nebula. Periodically checked the boards over the course of ~3 hours while watching basketball, and the faction in question never spawned any missions. It seems weird to include these factions in the game if they don't seem to serve a purpose.

The faction is only at 1% influence so forcing a war would be very difficult, but by destroying a ton of ships of the controlling faction it might be possible? Does it matter if they are wanted?

The asteroid base systems seem to be crawling with tourist ship, and i will likely try to check the systems their were from if they will spawn missions out to the asteroid bases. Totally a long shot, but might as well try it.

From visiting other asteroid bases recently it seems like the second most influential faction has their mission board nuked. At the theocracy controlled asteroid base near the California Nebula the 2nd and 3rd most influential factions were at war. The second faction was a dictatorship, and did not spawn missions. The third initially did spawn donation, and mining missions. However, after doing a few donation missions for the third faction all their other missions immediately disappeared too.

Super old, but I was wondering if anyone had any luck with this? Stumbled across this faction and wanted to see what would happen if they gained influence. If you go to their mission board at New Growth and scroll down to The Shunned's tab, the caption below the image still of the person explicitly says that they do not have any missions at the moment but earning bounties they've issued will increase. Then says destroying the ships of their enemies will help decrease their influence.

I just want to get to friendly since quite a few passenger missions are still up.

Side note: probably nothing, but Inara says the faction also had/has an additional presence next door in Pencil Sector QD-S b4-5 but the last update for that was like 200 some days ago. There's biological signs on the first 3 (I think?) landable planets which, yes, is probably just plants but I want to check it out anyway since my carrier is already hanging out in the area.

UPDATE! Since just yesterday the Seven Stages Movement has a terrorist attack state right now!! I'm going to check it out

That's generic flavour text, every faction says that when the proc-gen doesn't generate any missions for them. Unfortunately (for anarchy supporters), it isn't actually true for Anarchies.

The CMF's base in Pencil Sector EL-Y d5 has a black market. Load up the carrier with stolen or illegal goods and sell some every day until you have the inf equalized. Win the war and then you can sell explo data and do pos trade for "The Shunned". Once you flipped the system to Anarchy you then can also get bounties for the Anarchy from cargo pirates. Looks pretty straight forward. Good luck if you still trying to flip it. There is always a need for more Anarchy systems.

Wow I didn't even think about that. I'll definitely do that.

I believe the purpose of these anarchy factions in these very isolated systems is merely to give you someone to shoot at to earn bounties for the "proper" faction. I'm sure they only exist so that the controller isn't unrealistically at 100% forcing out permanent expansions (to nowhere (even though I have seen 100% inf factions before)). Seems they're really only there for flavour, as a balance to the controlling faction.

Quite a shame they're so under-utilised, really.

thanks. mostly involved undermining seven stages at their starport and running missions and trading through the shunned's odyssey settlement
