As long as it's UK, we don't care.

The British will be even more prisoners in the island. (sad for the british ).

We in the European Union with the green certificate, do not have this constraint.

It’s looking like many EU countries are going to put the UK on their white lists because our vaccine program is so successful and they want our tourists.

We have very low levels now but it only takes a few people with something the vaccines don’t work on coming to the UK and we are back to square one with lockdowns and Billions of pounds wiped from our economy.

I want the world back to normal Pat, but given the choice between pulling up the drawbridge and not going on holiday abroad and putting off tourists coming to the UK, vs months of lockdown for a few weeks of freedom a few months a year; I’m for pulling up the drawbridge until we sort this out.

Once there's air ( or boat) travel, can any country really prevent entry of variants? We may try, set up rules etc, but humans tend to break the laws for their own purposes.
Our borders are "closed" and here we are spiking with P1 from Brazil because people move around.

Let's hope that the first gen vaccines can hold the line vs variants till it dies out.

How do you confuse travel opening up with being prisoners ?. France wasn't mentioned in relation to it, neither was the green certificate. It's all about opening up travel for the vaccinated to destinations that are not on the red list for out of control covid.

How you can ignore the fact that people who will not be vaccinated, but who will have a negative test or who will have antibodies, will not be able to travel ? And will be prisoners on the island ...

However, these people will be probably in the minority in the UK.

The country could look like a gigantic detention open-air camp (like in other places in the world) for a few tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people, or even few millions people ?).

I could not read the article because we have to be a subscriber, but let’s see if this passport is provisional for the immediacy of the travel in the urgency, or if in the medium term, the UK will align on green certificate of the EU.

Israel is being very responsible (if we ignore the Palestinian issue, and that it’s a bit mean spirited they aren’t being allocated vaccines and it’s all going through Covax). They hedged their bets with the vaccines, have the best vacation program in the world pretty much so are looking to send vaccines they don’t need to somewhere that does before they even receive them. That’s good in my opinion.

Not hogging something they don’t need or won’t use is a good thing. They aren’t being irrational.

We know how it starts and we also know how it can evolve and extend to other areas.

The CDC and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for Trinidad and Tobago: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza.

That's just 17 vaccines. No big deal when it becomes 18.
It's our little way of not getting visitors sick, stopping international disease spread, and excluding antivaxxer dumbness from the shores as a bonus. Just like every other country on the planet does.

Pretty sure we won't be letting in unvaccinated folks here down the line. That's the sentiment from our Medical Association, and probably from Police too as they have now extra work to enforce regulations.

None of this is new. Or "authoritarian". It's how the real world works.

We don't want the disease here. We elected freely a Government that will fulfil that mission legally and with minimal use of force.

The green certificate is not a French certificate, it is an international certificate in the European Union, and which will be valid in the European Union for the member countries which are each international for the others countries of the European Union.

But since the UK is not part of the European Union, I can understand that there is a vaccination passport requiring people in the UK to be vaccinated.

I know that for decades it is necessary to be vaccinated against certain diseases to travel to certain countries, and this is normal.

Although in reality , each time I went to a foreign country, I was never asked for a vaccination passport.

And now there is no border among the 27 countries of the European Union in the Shengen space.

In the case of Covid, in the European Union, a green certificate is under discussion which will offer 3 options, to be vaccinated, to be negative on tests, to have antibodies.

It's EU countries we are negotiating the vaccine passport system with. The green certificate seems to be an irrelevance to that so it doesn't seem to be an EU wide thing, certainly it's not an external thing.

I'm fine with antivaxxers living with self imposed restrictions. We need to protect the people who can't be vaccinated and wider society from them.

As I said in the thread "The safest place", a new variant "Triple mutant" was discovered in India. This new variant could be even more contagious than the current "Double mutant" (1 million contamination in 4 days), and also much more deadly. It seems that this "Triple mutant" is a variant of type "Immune escapement".

Therefore the current vaccines would be totally ineffective.

So I'll wait for more, before I get vaccinated.

Because the "Double mutant" is already in Europe and the "Triple mutant" will eventually come too. No need to inject serum into my veins which could be completely obsolete in a few weeks / months.
