VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

It could be great, for sure. And hopefully some day it’ll have a stab at being so ;)

But the brass tacks are, that it’s a flatscreen game as well. And regardless of our preferences, that is a much bigger market, and it will get the bulk of the attention. VR will always play second fiddle to that.

Wishing it otherwise won’t make it so ¯\(ツ)

I´d rather actually want that they take their time with VR implementation also on foot, so that it will be done with such time and so well, that we won´t be dropping through the floors or stuff when it comes out

Oh and no NPC´s standing on the seats, please.

There aren't a lot of VR players to begin with, and I for one already did buy it. Oh me oh my.
I think there is a lot more VR players than you think. I already bought it to participate in the Alpha but there will be no more money down the road if they go back on their word.

And I'm left wondering how many there are like me, who bought VR gear, played ED and said, 'Wow!' but it's not for me..

Well if they don't stick to their word about limited VR at launch I am done with them. No more money will they see from me.
It's already got limited VR in the alpha. It's just so horrible that it's not PLAYABLE, but it's there. I mean, it's incredible BAD. Bad graphics, all sorts of weird junk on the screen, and the idiotic "framed VR" while on foot...well, I'll stick with Horizons. BTW, you have to "trick" the alpha to run in VR, since it doesn't actually have the necessary settings for it in the Graphics options. It involves going from the VR of Horizons to kicking off the alpha while still in VR (at least, using SteamVR). But it's really NOT worth it.

It was nice to see during the Alpha that updates were being done to VR so that the Rift ran with it - Hopefully during optimisation and graphic improvements we will see a further improvement in VR - I am expecting VR in ships and SRVs but the 2D screen for on foot at launch.
I do have two questions for @Arthur Tolmie, who has been brilliant at keeping us VR users informed.
Question 1 - Have some of the VR bugs from Horizons been looked at for launch ie: the FSS orbit lines etc
Question 2 - Please may we have another update on where the VR development stands - even if it is just a one liner saying as previoulsy advised.

Many thanks @Arthur Tolmie and sorry for name dropping you once again.

I mean for launch I think they executed what they said - 2d screen on foot, VR available in ships/srvs otherwise. You can also use third person cam to have actual but clunky VR experience from what I read - which is even more annoying because obviously it works. They just left it on the cutting room floor because of deadlines most likely.

I think the question is rather - will they continue to develop for VR (or Odyssey in general) or will they go dormant like they always do and move onto other project. Remember that ED:O was supposed to be one big release, not progressive content like Horizons.

I think I saw few forum posters citing they don't like it. Some preferred more beautiful graphics over the 3d feel. Others were citing nausea and some just didn't appreciate the experience, like @Wrecked. Out of curiosity, why "it isn't for you"?

I played ED for almost 3 years before getting VR. Now I'll never go back. The experience in Horizons is just too perfect for me.
