Let players enlist into Navies

as far as actual "realism" goes sure. But i dont think it would need to go that far.

There's room for thematic or narrative consistency without it needing to be "boot camp simulator"
Lol, of course no, the player should be able to experience only some limited features of a superpower navy, and fight for the navy when it is possible, with very little penalties, but interesting rewards for fighting for the superpower. No normal developer would make a real life military simulator. It would just be boring.

Sure I agree with you, the game shouldn't be about hours of patrolling, and enlisting into a Navy may require that.
But that's what the NPC naval ships do...
But I didn't meant system police forces, I meant superpower Navies.
In war systems you frequently get pulled by "XYZ naval ship" or similar. Try it.
It could work something like this: if there is a battle in the system you would be assigned to, you have to warp there within some time and fight.
You already do that--just without a "Have to" tag attached.
If you don't get there on time, you get half you naval salary, and if you destroy much ships or do something important for the battle, you get higher payout and perhaps some rewards.
So free money? What? That's the first I've heard of it.
Patrolling would be a thing only in case of system law enforcement, and there is no point in enlisting into such organizations for the player.
Navy does this too actually.

"With very little penalties but interesting rewards" doesn't sound balanced or realistic in lore. Unless the Imperials can't access Vulture, Eagle mk2, FDS, FAS, FGS, and Corvette, and vice versa for Feds, I don't see how this makes sense. Also define "interesting rewards" since if its anything like power play modules that's a whole other can of worms.
