Are you surprised it so bad ??

Honestly, yes. The gameplay is the mediocre FPS I saw coming, but didn't expect the ruined UI and framerate. I was expecting to lol a bit at people white knighting for an obviously low tier FPS bolt-on, but didn't expect that I'll end up having to take a bite of the sandwich despite not buying it. FD never ceases to amaze me.

Pre-orderers are the boomers of the vidya world.

"Who cares that it is ruining the future, I won't be around to deal with it!"

What's up with this preorder nonsense?
Either a game will be sold enough - preorder or not - and will see more updates.
Or it doesn't, then it's doomed. I prefer more updates for Elite.
If no one buys it it will be shut down.

And if I don't preorder and wait, what do I win? I can see it's a mess, and wait for the update that maybe never comes?

Sort of a prisoners dilemma here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot think of any update since I joined at 2.0 Horizons beta, that has brought massive performance issues resulting in frame rate tanking...

...Well! - there was one of the 2.X.Y updates that forced the window for VR mode to fullscreen full resolution, which when I was rocking a rift and a 4k TV as a computer monitor on a GTX970, made things, interesting. But disabling Oculus during that period still gave me the sorts of framerates I'd expect in any other resolution, the bug was limited to VR only, so not a big issue. But now, we are seeing RTX cards brought to their knees at 1080p for goodness sakes...
Yeah youre right. Performance has never sucked this bad. I have a 2070 rtx super and was running horizons at X2 dsr at 2560 x 1440 in an attempt to deal with elites lack of AA ( which still sucks btw even after a supposed graphics update).
Now running at the native 2560x1440 of my monitor stations are a sparkly low FPS mess.

Youd think they could have implemented good AA as long as performance was going to take this big a hit. Whats a couple a fps to do TAA when what you are implementing is going to tank performance anyway. Skyrim had better AA.

They got the cash before we got the game !!!!! all those how prepaid are to blame

This stuff started during the alpha and it's already more than old.

Do you realize that the amount of preorders can't make a product worse ? They could make it better, maybe, but not worse for sure.
Having said that, yes, i preordered. Yes i was expecting something better ( performance wise, server problems on day one are the norm on ANY game ).

They'll fix it, i guess. Fdev, considering the work they did on Elite Dangerous starting from 2014, deserves thrust in my opinion.

There is no dilemma.

If companies are paid before they deliver on promises repeatedly, they will shift their focus towards selling promises and not products . . . like EDO. It is very simple.

This is why games used to just work on launch as companies had to sell products, and failure to deliver functioning products meant failure. So companies focused on their product. But now, they can get by on selling promises, weathering the salt storm, and then come back to sell more promises to all the people who have grown accustomed to it.

Think SC could've happened before pre-orders? EDO? CP2077? Fallout 76? All created by those who pre-order.

I should be surprised but I'm really not that the "Community Managers" on here are not in the thick of things, responding to people's fears, worries, complaints etc. One of them has posted like 9 times in a month on here. Really, what the actual.

I wouldn't put EDO on the same category as SC and I can't say anything on the other two.
CP2077 was allegedly a hot mess launch but recovered, NMS was a mess at launch.
And my EDO experience wasn't shambolic either. The framerates are bad, but not unplayable on my 2060
and I guess I will have a lot of fun after hotfix 2 or 3.
You missed the option of turning all off and concentrate on theme park games and their new IP.

If I were a CM here I wouldn't communicate with a lot of people here either, me included :ROFLMAO:

Now imagine if the Panther Clipper had been released- all would have been forgiven!

This mindset is the entire basis of the SC insanity. It's borderline cult behavior.

Do gamers do this with other products? "Oh that restaurant kind of sucked, but they keep promising it will be better - I guess I should keep going there so they don't go out of business and can learn to make better meals"

Given that FD have steadily moved more and more away from pay-in-advance and towards pay-on-delivery, they must be comparative saints in your book! 😉

Edit - worth bearing in mind though that them making that change has been part of the reason that Odyssey has taken so long to arrive, and why it’s arguably been had to be pushed through to be released in this FD Financial Year.

Sunk cost fallacy

Two years of absolutely wasted development to deliver this absolute waste of time. I wasn't interested in anything other than the improved visuals and they're nothing that spectacular, barring the odd effect. Bug-riddled, poor framerates, repetitive, unimaginative NPCs, the list of things under-delivered by this update just keeps going and going. The only consolation is that I'm a Lifetime Expansion Pass holder so I didn't pay for this thing.

To what end though? Do you need a shoulder to cry on, an agony aunt?

I'm not happy about the current state of affairs either but it's not like a CM is going to be able to sort it out. I'm sure the dev team are well aware what's going on, Braben himself hinted at it during the live stream, we can only wait for the next patch which will hopefully come soon and address the worst aspects.

CM's I feel kinda sorry for, I certainly wouldn't want to be in their skin now. Their job is purely PR, not fix the game or consoling distraught customers.
