ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

I agree with everything you say. I don't know whether or not any shareholders pressured FDev regarding Odyssey; I'd like to think not but tbh I've no idea.

Speaking as an FDev shareholder myself, I AM angry at this: it shows FDev in such a poor light. Now this isn't a one-off; as we have seen with the Fleet Carrier update and 2019's bug fix patches (which introduced a whole new raft of bugs), this botched launch/update situation happens time and time again.

Anyone at FDev care to comment? Why can't you successfully launch an update or DLC?
They may not have explicitly said "launch it immediately," but shareholder meetings are definitely a thing, and what probably happened was they said "you havent made any significant releases in this fiscal year to help share value go up, you need to change that." Which pressures FDev to push out a broken DLC.

I find it real hard to believe that Fdev would be forced to follow No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 into launch hells that should have been delayed by months. Cyberpunk more specifically was a cautionary tale for basically all game developers.

Shareholders tbh typically do not follow video game mainstream media.

True, but the scary truth is that FDev believe they have delivered a fantastic product. There is a real disconnect between the community vision for ED and FDev's which is unlikely to ever be bridged.

Yeah, that video of David Braben publicly praising his dev team after Odyssey launch for a job well done really does show that NOBODY at FDev have any idea what happens outside their offices.

It was more than just bad press though.

CDPR's stock plummeted and their reputation is forever marred.
Millions of gamers opted to refund on all released platforms.
The game was taken off (and I still believe it is not there) of the Playstation Store until further notice.

If you're a shareholder and that isn't enough of a warning to you not to force games out the door, then you deserve every negative aspect of a botched release to come your way.

So anyhooo....refunds for Odyssey are pretty much a ,|,, since Horizons play and Odyssey play are not tracked separately. Just an FYI for those really disappointed and want a refund (I did not get mine). I am using Epic Games Store for the launcher.

I have not had all the connection issues you folks have had but this game should not have been released. Period. :poop: Scottish Female ed off F-Bombs for a visual. (n):sneaky:

i can't start my game from steam. keeps telling me i need an update. have tried posted fix it don't work for me HELP please. 6 hours of trying i am done

I'm just getting the Orange Sidewinder issue EVERY SINGLE TIME I try and play. This has been going on since midday yesterday. Very hacked off now FDev, would anyone care to comment?

Oh, I think they know. They even know very well.
I'm pretty sure Frontier cannot / doesn't hide what's going on since Wednesday for themselves.

But that's big business policy: Never confess you've done and published a big mess; at least try to sell it as intended and as a feature ("it's a feature, not a bug").

This morning, I noticed the following - just read it very attentively:

No word about any Beta or even Open Beta stage - indeed, Frontier went from Alpha directly to launch.
Okay - that is not exactly what is written there, I know ;) - but the wording and the interpretation perfectly fits to what people is experiencing since two days.

Horrible...

What a dumpster fire this release is. Not going to bother until it's reduced in price and stable ... time to look to other games for me really.
Yeah, I've put it aside, too. I don't go for a refund since there seems to be a couple of issues and denials with, too. And as I certainly would buy it in a couple of weeks once again, as soon as its bugs are hopefully mostly fixed, for full price, I also can leave it as it is right now. At least it hopefully won't teleport me thousands of lightyears away from my current position as soon as I go back to Horizons... :cautious:

But I've returned to my Truck Sim's and other games, too, and I will continue doing so until this mess is mostly resolved.
