ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

On stations:
10-15 FPS with lowest graphic settings , though I changed Win 10 settings on my new NVIDIA card (newest game ready driver) / Win 10 -> Power management mode to performance mode, tried out several changing's over hours, nothing worked. In Horizons with high graphic setting everything is fine 45-60 FPS...
Temporary workaround: Scale down your display to a lower resolution. Not beautiful, but at least it is playable.

Still, very sad that they killed the much prettier graphics of Horizons with this update (and no, I do not want to live without being able to go on foot, so getting back to Horizons isn't happening either).

I hope they see some sense and go back to the way graphics worked previously.

If you mean the awful new contrast that make everything darker in space then I'm 100% agree with you.
But on planets it's far prettier than before.

Well I am deep out in the black past Colonia trudging along in a Corvette. Stopped off last night in Odyssey to explore a planet with numerous biological signals and found the SRV won't scan anything. Not sure if it is a bug or if I have to turn around and fly all the way back to Colonia to get a special suit and/or scanner. Kind of a PITA tbh. I wasn't planning on returning for a month or so.

You need an Artemis exploration suit with included bio scanner, Commander.

I agree with everything you say. I don't know whether or not any shareholders pressured FDev regarding Odyssey; I'd like to think not but tbh I've no idea.

Speaking as an FDev shareholder myself, I AM angry at this: it shows FDev in such a poor light. Now this isn't a one-off; as we have seen with the Fleet Carrier update and 2019's bug fix patches (which introduced a whole new raft of bugs), this botched launch/update situation happens time and time again.

Anyone at FDev care to comment? Why can't you successfully launch an update or DLC?
Presumably they have a QA department...?

This morning, I noticed the following - just read it very attentively:

View attachment 228355

No word about any Beta or even Open Beta stage - indeed, Frontier went from Alpha directly to launch.
Okay - that is not exactly what is written there, I know ;) - but the wording and the interpretation perfectly fits to what people is experiencing since two days.

Horrible...
They've done paid-for Betas before now. Weren't the Fleet Carriers such?

What I've got to play has been pretty solid for me so far. I do expect problems for the first few weeks. No launch, regardless of how well prepared, survives that release unscathed.

Scaled down from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 increased the FPS from 10-15 to 12-18 FPS so this is not THE solution for me, but thx anyway ...

The best solution for the sake of my nerves was going back to Horizons :)

Mostly problem-free here as well. Mid-level CPU and GPU. Definitely lower FPS than Horizons, but still very playable, and I am confident that will be smoothed out in the near future. Not a perfect release by any means, but I understood what I was getting when I hit the play button, and so far I am far more impressed than I am disappointed.

It boggles me how some people freak-out over launch-day issues in today's age, or even in the past 20 years, when launches of any major title have issues. If you can't handle it - hold off and wait awhile for the main issues to be ironed out. Will save you a lot of high blood pressure and stress. Frustration is understandable, but in 2021 - it should also be expected if you choose to dive in on day one. For better or worse, that's how major titles go now.

Same here. Honestly, the only performance hit I took was having to drop the game down from 4k resolution to 2k resolution. Which, on a GTX 1080 ti? Is entirely reasonable.

Oh, same.

I have a Ryzen 5 2600, 32GB RAM, an NVMe M.2 SSD (which always helps), and an AMD RX 580 8 GB graphics card, and I run the game at 1080p (my monitor's resolution). Oh, and thanks to a recommendation from a fellow Commander, my Python bridge is filled with the dulcet tones of Brian Blessed.

If the original Elite had done the same in 1984, I doubt he would have been knighted after such a let down.

But it a new age init doh blaad !
Kaching !

easy to tell others how to react is it...

I spose if it doesn't affect you.

my video is fine, the entire game still plays beautifully for me.
there was no choice in case you did not notice
everyone was forced to do the update

some of us still cant play.

I own horizons and I can play as long as I have no desire to shoot anythng
because for me, I cannot re-arm my ships
and the odd time it says its working always ends with a black adder and CTD

3 days and all my guns have no ammo and cannot be refilled by synth or at stations.

so, do tell me how I am supposed to react.
I did not want legs or care at for any variation of it. So I don't have it. But I am still suffering from the rollout of a game I did not want.
