Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

He thinks the planet city is the size of the planet. It's just a few levels you can visit.

"..as long as they continue with that transparency..." LOL

"CIG has developed some groundbreaking technology." LOL

It's a horrible video. He should have talked to experienced game developers who would have explained the game Chris describes cannot be made.

This is a CIG propaganda video with a thin veneer of skepticism to try to make it seem credible.

It's highly inaccurate. It repeats CIG's basic propaganda. As a journalist, why not talk to software developers?

Part of the issue, I think, is that laymen think software can do anything given enough time and money.

This was actually really well done. He addressed some of my biggest issues, and I think he gets to the heart of the whole thing: it's all built on faith. You either have it or you don't when it comes to Star Citizen and its intentions. For myself, I have faith that the people who work at CIG want a really great game, they want to make something incredible, and they want to release it yesterday. I don't have faith in Chris, or the people he handpicks to run things his way.

I want the game to succeed, I want it to be huge, and for everyone who put money into it to enjoy the fully polished, released game for many years to come. It's just that I'm not sure that will ever happen the way we want, and that somehow Chris will redefine "release" and "polish" and so many other words describing the game, that it will be mission accomplished without actually delivering anything close to the full experience.

I've stopped believing that CIG developers are innocent long time ago, I don't think they're trying to create anything anymore, they're in purely for their paycheck, plain and simple.

It's like making a video about people who really believe that Cold Fusion will work (or that the EEStor battery will work) without talking to physicists.

LTT is a great channel, though.

Well yeah, people are in it for the paycheck. I'm not working 50-80 hours a week under high pressure conditions with a boss whose just as likely to yell at me as pat me on the back and do all of it for free while living in our capitalist system, hell no. There better be a paycheck in it! lol

It's hard work, it's exhausting, and aside from the paycheck there's little reward because the people who play the game will either be indifferent to you or hate you because you didn't ad [ X ] feature and you're the scummiest person in the world who should die repeatedly, and as far as I'm concerned there's no paycheck worth that abuse. So what pay there is must compensate for all of that time and effort spent while dealing with a "visionary," and I think we know that "visionaries" can be massive pains in the ass no matter if you believe in the project or not.

Blah blah SC is the bestest game evar and you should all buy some ships mm-kay? A video praising SC is completely coincidental to CIG having a ship sale and a free fly week and was not at all sponsored in any way by CIG. Nope, no sir-ee.

Meanwhile sales had another bumper day yesterday.

It's a cult then? :)
Though trust and confidence sure aren't enough.

QED. You can have the best seamen, if the captain doesn't know where he goes and can't help but carve leaks in the boat, she won't get far. Unless there's a mutiny.

I'm not sure its connected. They did the video of their excursion into the verse a while ago and said they would do a follow up.

Now, of course, it is possible they were influenced in their timing by CIG in some way... but i'm not going to claim that was the case. If it was meant as a fluff piece to promote SC then they didn't follow instructions as plenty of criticism of the project in the video.

As for funding, no surprises there. Funding has been relative low for a couple of weeks, people holding back on spending for the event, not to mention the fresh meat that will have arrived all starry eyes with the potential for SC without knowing anything about its history or likely future.

Its why this show will continue for a good while yet. Always new marks available to continue the funding and the old marks that still think they are getting the game CIG have promised.

In hindsight, yeah you're probably right. I dislike Linus and anyone that has anything to do with him 😅

His closing thoughts don't seem to match the title of his video, though. And kinda glosses over the whole "The Idris that attacked me on stream was a CIG employee making the game look cooler than it actually is" thing.

A better title would be: "Best Game Ever? Maybe.. one day. Or not."

He touched on a few good points, but missed a few big ones, like the Forbes article. Can ignore the Kotaku ones by saying well it's a game magazine and the author might have it in for them, but Forbes is Forbes. They don't care about gaming, only about financials and they did their research, a lot of it.
