Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Isn't "concierge" just a fancy word for "support"

Like that basic thing you get now with games
In France, a 'concierge' opens doors for patrons or are employed by owners of residencies to sit in a small office and collect mail. Ci¬G are full of fancy made up names for idiots who've spent money on the project...most of them meaningless or are a pure 'Americanism' for Latin (read Roman military rankings) or Foreign language phraseology's they know little to nothing about :)

As an interesting sidenote...the military rank of Sergeant, the description roughly means 'servant' or 'to serve' in Latin or French. Some British army regiments don't use the rank because of this and have the traditional sergeant rank chevrons reversed, pointing down. The equivalent rank and official designation in the Houshold Cavalry, who are the Royal horse guard, is 'Corporal of Horse'. A Regimental Sergeant Major or WO1, Warrant Officer class one (my old rank) is a Regimental Corporal Major...seems like a demotion to me but hey :)

It's a cult then? :)
Though trust and confidence sure aren't enough.
Could very well be, there are some members who have a "I love it when they take my money and spank me like a little monkey, and if you don't like it you can leave!" mentality, like in the current thread about real money ships being permanently lost, they make it like it's somehow your fault you don't interpret the words of CIG to mean exactly what it means at this given moment, and what's funny is if CIG does change it, these people will go along with it like nothing is any different. "What? What do you mean? We've always been at peace with Eastasia. It's clearly stated in the FAQ from 2012."

I mean there's real anger dripping from some of those responses. One of my posts said that they should clarify the disposition of real money ships compared to in-game purchased ships, which would allay fears and stop this perennial question from arising, the response was essentially that they already did by not differentiating in the FAQ from 2012. For them, that's enough, even though clearly there are persons, like myself, who want to have a more concrete answer.

QED. You can have the best seamen, if the captain doesn't know where he goes and can't help but carve leaks in the boat, she won't get far. Unless there's a mutiny.
The problem in any hierarchical system like the one in which we live, and the one in which Chris runs things at CIG, is that going up against the captain requires a LOT of people, and strong support from the backers. Chris, being the captain, is part of the reason why Star Citizen makes so much cash. The backers believe in his "vision," despite him being very low on the game developing ability totem pole, and the managing things without messing them up leaderboard. To quote the age old issue, these people have families, and they have their own needs to address, and rocking the boat means losing employment, which means they're now in an area of uncertainty they can't navigate confidently. Add in that this is "just a game," and you can see how employees might think it all doesn't really matter at the end of the day, that they're just working to make a good game, and dealing as best as they can with the Pointy Haired Boss.

They are actually very good.
I'd have to find a spare drawer in my toolbox to shove it in though...

The more money a person or persons sink into something, the more apologetic they become for its faults, whether perceived or actual.

It is no surprise CIG has some of the most toxic, frothing at the mouth apologists. They have the most to lose by criticism being true.
That doesn't always hold true though, unless you want to go lashing the generic tar brush about. I know more than a few concierge or whales who have a similar attitude to mine...swings and roundabouts 🤷‍♂️

Right now it's curious to watch some people in that thread say that CIG's position on whether or not real money ships are included in permanent loss is perfectly clear, but won't even agree that further clarification would be beneficial. It's almost like they know if CIG made that position clear, it would drastically affect ship sales. I mean, how can anyone be against further clarification, especially for new players?

And that's just to keep fixing the Harley's when they break down!

Of course, it doesn't apply to everyone. Some.
I need a complete standalone toolkit for the Harleys and the old Brit bikes...all Imperial spanner sizes (5/16th to inch and a half), everything else in the known universe uses metric

Now we've moved on to "real world currency and in-game currency are the same." Because CIG would be happy to build their game without real world currency, wouldn't they?

I mean, seriously, who thinks that there's no difference? Look at all of these businesses that have pages and pages of boilerplate when allowing players to buy digital goods with real money. You think they also believe there's no difference between real world and in-game currency?

That's not really a good thing...According to Sandi, I'm an 'entitled whiner' being concierge...she dropped that one on video too ;)
Visited Texas a few years back for CitizenCon, and Sandi breezed right past one of my buddies trying to say hi to her.
How hard would it have been to just smile and nod? I personally didn't care, but it miffed my friend.

Have often had the feeling Sandi tolerates Star Citizen and barely tolerates backers, only because she's married to Chris.

There have been some telltale signs from their videos as well.

One of the early ones where Sandi is talking and a girl behind her starts rolling her eyes at Sandi. Ok, that could be put down to people who just don't get along.

Or the more telling ones though was when Sandi thought she wasn't being filmed and gives the evil eye to someone off camera.

What's the point of your post ? To tell us that FDEV have no graphic engineer ?
From what I see, the point is that with FDev, software engineers will comment on why something's not working right, and how FDev can fix it. The community will say "yeah, it sucks until they fix it, but that makes sense."

In the SC community, I can say firsthand that just asking for CIG to put up a notice that "if you do not have insurance, and your ship is destroyed, it is permanently lost. This applies to ships purchased with real world currency as well" is like pulling teeth, and how DARE I even SUGGEST that such a thing is needed because EVERYONE I'VE TOLD AGREES WITH ME THAT IT'S JUST FINE THE WAY IT IS.

EVERYONE IS FINE WITH IT YOU'RE THE PROBLEM! GO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE TROLL!"
