Odyssey Progress

I think I'm done with the odyssey missions ....suppose to go get the superconductor from a crash...something simple to practice on >>>>> threat 2 my had 5 mcp guarding or salvaging (in solo) I roll up in my SRV scan, they wanted, i light em up and they destroyed my srv with 3 shots,,,, REALLY DEVS come on :mad: first mission went about that bad too because i according to them stole it ...need to pay attention too what i pick up in this game 12.5K fine for mission fail

Had a similar experience to you .. except have tooled ship with dumbfire missiles, quite an effective way to take them out (just make sure you're not shooting at clean soldiers). You can also run them over with SRV at a push (at least you'll take a couple of them with you).

They are a trick to get rid of on your own but what made me (in a kind of deranged semi lunatic fashion) was how, not only was there one squad when I arrived they got reinforcements .. to guard one, single, box! Some people apparently take security extremely sewiously! Threat level really means something at least.

Good luck o7

I'm a dev and I say leave the QA guys out of this. The blame rests squarely on the C-suits. Not the developers, not the QA guys, not even the Project Manager, but on a C-suit who said "I don't care the state it's in, push it out of the door before fiscal year end, I want my results".
thank you for you're honesty VR StarLightPL, I just wish others would do the same, but I know its also a survival thing telling the truth with many employees and their jobs. But thank you anyway for you're honesty at least you have some backbone.

nice Dave - don't take us for idiots, you have financial results & goals to achieve. we should contact a consumer association for this unfinished product put in sales with so many defects

The Devs have had to push the game out from those on high who didnt want to miss the deadline date of release regardless if it was ready or not, down to huge investment, advertising and media hype. ED was full of bugs when it came out. Horizons was the same. Fleet Carriers was the same. Why would you expect Odyssey not to be?

Devs do a job like anyone else, if its not ready and they say its not ready yet the Bosses still push for it to be released, its not really down to the devs is it, they are carrying out the orders of their Bosses or get the sack like anyone in any job would. I still think the Devs are an extremely tallented bunch and would leave most of us standing with their programming skills.

We often point fingers in the wrong places, its those on high that should have made the decission to double, triple test everything before setting a launch date and listened more to the Devs and the entire community instead of leaving everything including the flack to the devs.

As for David's response.

I don't think it was really him that responded, Its a set scripted response, probably posted under his name by one of his social media crew on his behalf although he may have wrote it. The appologie was well deserved though because of the money we have all spent supporting the game so far. I alone have spent almost 600.00 in this game with multiple DVD copies, Steam copies, Skins, Packs, Arx, Beta and Alpha releases etc as many other members have so yes a little communication from the CEO is needed and more of it.

Greetings Commanders,

With our first hotfix now released and another one arriving very shortly, I wanted to take a moment to address the wider community feedback and reports regarding performance issues, server outages, and bug reports within Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

First and foremost, I would like to apologise wholeheartedly to those who have been suffering from these problems. I would like to reassure you that we take these issues very seriously and that they are our top priority and focus.

Our second hotfix will be released very soon, which we hope will address more of the reported bugs and bring further stability improvements into the game.  We will continue to work on updates which will resolve more bugs and improve stability further.

Some of our players are reporting poor performance on machines where we would expect the performance to be good, and others are saying it is fine. We are trying to get to the bottom of this. I have been playing on my old home machine from 2014, which has an Intel i7 Extreme CPU and a GTX 980 GPU, 16 Gb RAM, playing at 1080p full screen at Ultra. I was doing this so I could have a good feel for how the game was playing on older hardware, and I used this same machine during Alpha. I have also been playing on a high spec 2021 dev machine.

I would like to thank you all for your patience and support. The Elite Dangerous community has always been at the heart of the game. We understand that there are a number of players who have had problems accessing and playing the game and I can assure you that we are focusing fully on improving this for those affected and communicating with you openly and regularly about how these issues are being addressed.

Thank you all,

David
I don't buy this. I am sorry

You either knew that this was not ready for prime time, or you were lied to by the lead game directors or you were influenced by other external factors. Either way, bad performance and stability are just half the problem.

  • At the end of the Alpha we were told that the release version of Odyssey will include not only all the fixes, but a vastly improved planetary tech - the planetary tech is far worse than Horizon. I have YET to see anything that remotely resembles what we saw in your overly produced marketing trailers. Not a single planet I've seen so far looks as good as the pre rendered images you advertised. That is what I call "false advertisement"
  • The atmospheric effects are laughable to say the least. 99% of the skies on every planet look exactly the same. yes some are different, but nothing jaw dropping.
  • There is hardly any bio diversity in exo biological plants. same lifeless stuff we saw during the Alpha. The only difference was giving them some wind animation. Funny thing is, you implement zero atmospheric effects such as wind dusts, snow flurries etc etc. It just feels like the bare minimum to get this out the door as quickly as possible!
  • The station interior are a copy paste with different coloration.
  • no new weapons, no new ships, no new SRVs
  • disembarking your ship, which was dubbed as the "Armstrong Moment" is nothing more than a fade to black screen teleport - how embarrassing is that. The SRV and the SLF have their own launch animation, yet foot-fall which was supposed to be a much bigger deal is just a fade to black teleport. If this is not being lazy, then I don't know what being lazy is!
  • There is almost no incentive to play with friends in a team since there are no team missions and you can't share missions with your teammates
  • The missions variety is bland, and feels more like it is there for the material grind rather than for the fun of doing them

This is not the first time that Frontier had run-ins with negative reactions but I think this time it won't be an easy recovery. You guys dropped the ball on this one and I pray for you that you will bounce back. I truly do because I do love Elite Dangerous, but right now I feel betrayed.

They knew exactly the state the game was in and decided to release it anyways.

There's obvious major issues that even interns would notice.

Said this before - but I'm fairly certain that some of the most angry people are all the devs at Frontier that told management the game wasn't ready.

it's sad because at the end of the day, the gamers are not the only people who suffer from all the bad decisions. The poor devs are suffering as well

who do you think is working over time, and possibly during weekends to fix all this mess? the management? hell no! the poor devs do.

I bet all the management are drinking margaritas on some luxury yacht right now, "celebrating" the launch of Odyssey :)

Agree the Devs are left to pick up the pieces and work overtime and take responsibility for all the mistakes when it shouldnt have been released in the first place till it was right and released as advertised including the bits missing in it. Devs are like you and me in a job, they might get paid more, doesnt mean they wont get the sack or risk being blocked and humiliated by the industry as a fall guy if its not successful, their under huge pressure from above. Yes mistakes happen, this game has evolved into a 100GB game, can you imagine how much code that is, its mind boggling to think, I can remember even 1mb worth of code being big on printouts so of course they will miss things and get things wrong, doesnt mean they wont polish things up when they find out. I think they need our support, not baggering constantly in the forum it must be pure hell to put all this work into a game and most players say it sht sht sht sht sht. I dont think a majority of the Devs would have released it when it wasnt ready, those orders came from above.

Heh I presume you understood me wrong. I'm a dev, but I'm not a dev at Frontier :D It's just things like these are obvious to people working in software, and there's a good few of us here

Now thats an idea lol but right now is it something you would really want looking at you while you fly its like the CEO boss spying on your every move lol
Spying? Do you mean in RL Alexa and Cortana don't? hehehe If you're going to be spied on anyway, get the top guy to do it. Besides, picture it: DB bobble guy getting whiplash in unison with my little black dashboard pilot, when jumping to another system. I could add 2 snowmen on either side of him during the winter. It would just add that "down home" feeling, don't you think?

appologies I was under the impression you were one of the Devs at Frontier having the ballz to come forward, however when their hands and tied and are told to release anyway its heart breaking to them.

I agree 100%, but as of right now, nobody from the top came forward and took responsibility. Yes, David apologized but he never acknowledged that it was a huge mistake to release it early in this incomplete state.

whiplash would be good for DB. Alexa (Dont use it on any device), Cortina (Dont have a mic conected on pc) and if I get paranoid about my phone, I just talk about drugs lol

well, now it is not the fault of the developers, now it is "those higher up" :D
.... as if those from "above" knew how to encode all the errors of these years ago.

I keep surprising me with so many cheap excuses made by the players, not by the company.🤦‍♂️
