Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Visited Texas a few years back for CitizenCon, and Sandi breezed right past one of my buddies trying to say hi to her.
How hard would it have been to just smile and nod? I personally didn't care, but it miffed my friend.

Have often had the feeling Sandi tolerates Star Citizen and barely tolerates backers, only because she's married to Chris.
Hi again GreySix...been a while since you've dropped in here :)

Am i right in thinking that theres still a monthy charge for star citizen? Is there any part ofit thats VR? also, while i'm here....is it any good? I dont want to read a thousand pages of keyboard bickering but would like to try a different space game.

Dear diary,
Today I learned insurance isn't vital at all, and it's so cheap as to be inconsequential, and that you will lose your real world currency purchased ship if you forget to have it, and if you do, it's your fault, you're stupid, you deserve it, and how DARE you ask questions about this very clear issue that comes up every couple of months.

Sincerely,
Someone Who Just Doesn't Read the FAQ

FYI, please note I don't own the game and think it is a scam.

  • Star Citizen does not have VR
  • It is not subscription based. You can subscribe if you want, but that is just to get some perks and fund the project
  • It is not a released game and has no release date after starting at the same time as Elite Dangerous.

I seriously consider X4 or NMS rather than dip your toes and dabble in Star Citizen...from someone who is a long time backer and regular player :)

I own the game, and this is 100% correct.

NMS.. junk, IMO. X4 I'd love to try.

Best space game I've played in last few years is Stellaris, and that got old after several hundred hours. Not a fan of space MMOs.

SC has a free fly if you're really curious. Just don't give them money before you try it.

I thought NMS was okay. I got it recently, and I have more fun with the consequence free sandbox than anything. Playing the survival part drives me nuts, though because it's so randomly generated you may not have a real solution to getting off the planet.

No monthly charge at the moment (game is not released or even decently playable). No one knows what CiG will do though. Anyone claiming they know are using their crystal ball.
Is it any good ? Cannot judge, there's no game per se. It's a demo with nice 3D assets, but the game engine itself is not there yet, nor are the 100 promised systems, etc. You can run around and pretend to do stuff with a broken physics engine, basic implementation of CryEngine FPS and low frame rates. Oh and no VR, and that wont be supported in the next 2 decades at least.

If you want a different space game, there are a lot of other suggestions to make that are complete, playable, and actually nice.

Thanks surefoot....any recommendations? I can see nothing that even scratches the surface...but then its what you cant see that you dont know. Thanks agaian.

ED community: I am a graphics engineer, I have profiled Odyssey and here is why it sucks performance-wise...

SC community: YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GAME DEVELOPMENT, IT'S AN ALPHA, LET ME THEORYCRAFT ABOUT SERVER MESHING
Well ED community or at least parts of it are = DOOM DOOM THIS IS PURE EXCREMENT, ANYBODY SAYING OTHERWISE IS WHITE KNIGHT, REFUND NOW.Over the problems that will be fixed over time. While SC community mostly is on other end of spectrum.

X3-AP is really good also.... and it's very polished with a ton of great mods.

I haven't moved onto X4 yet myself

This is why I never… NEVER, bought anything… I mean pledge anything that didn’t have LTI on it or I could CCU with an “LTI token”

It was really hilarious every time CR said… yeahhh don’t worry about LTI… pfff no big deal.

aaaand even with LTI they have hinted that insurance can be void by risking the ship in certain systems…

I really want to see CIG have the balls to allow ships people bought with real money be perma loss… Griefers paradise… imagine the salt of that Idris being ganked rofl 🤣

I still can't believe anyone thought CR could/would deliver anything. I played the heck out of WC 1,2,3,4 back in the day... but CR blew all the money and bailed on Freelancer over 20 years ago. The guy hasn't been involved in a successful video game project since the days of DOS/Windows 95.

I will say that I'm kind of surprised we've haven't seen more publishers/devs jump into the space games market... there's clearly a lot of demand when something that is a pretty obvious grift can pull in 350 million dollars.

That's one of the funny things. Time and again i've seen people say LTI isn't a big thing, but at the same time, it is treated like a big thing.
