General / Off-Topic meanwhile, in Sim City.

Interesting that some of those victims of EA are nowadays kicking up Kickstarters to get back into the game business.

Such as the ever-famous Richard Garriott with his Ultima series:

Thanks for sharing that - I used to play UO.

What I found really interesting, after the demands for clarification that were leveled at FD during their KS, is this:

Shroud of the Avatar general features:

From Lord British's Treatise on "What is an Ultimate RPG?":

  • Fully interactive virtual world - If it looks usable, it should do something
  • Deep original fiction - Ethical parables, cultural histories, fully developed alternate language text
  • Physical game components will be available: Cloth map, fictional manuals, trinkets
[*]Multiplayer Online Game - which can also be played solo player / offline

Meanwhile in Simcity

Mobius, I love your SimCity picture.
I find it a bit busy though, so would you consider making a version with just the Cobras just to see what it looks like. Not sure if it will improve it, but I'm curious. I would need it in 1920 x 1080 resolution if it's any good :D. (Wallpaper)

I will give it a go.

Thank you Mobius. I think that last SimCity picture turned out better. Now displaying as my wallpaper on one of my computers.

I maintain that the only person DRM inconveniences is legitimate customers. In my (of course totally non-existent) experience of pirate materials, they tend not too have any such inconveniences.

It's the same with DVDs. I hate having to sit through unskippable "Piracy is Wrong" intros. I know it's wrong. That's why I bought the DVD. Why do I have to watch this?

I have actually been known to download illegitimate versions of games I have bought, simply because they are more convenient to use.

Fascinating thread there guys. C+C, Dungeon Keeper, Baldurs Gate amongst my all time favourites. Maybe it's a sign of the industry's maturity (or the cost of making a game) that it's gone from something produced by enthusiasts to something controlled by suits who want to make a safe buck.

Well maybe Kickstarter and E: D will change that, and get us back to games made by enthusiasts :D

EA, killer of UWO:O
The Jukan
The Meer
The city-sized Yew-tree
Lord Blackthorn a half robot

All gone...
All gone...

I think we can all agree that EA's current DRM is pretty much Obsolete.
i think 80% of the people that would have copied the game wouldnt have brought brought the full game if it was any good,

its like music. many people have hundreds of gigs of music, but would they have brought the albums in the first place. the same goes for games those who would have copied it would probably end up buying it, if the game was any good,

lulz no.....

Is it fair to consider Kickstarter as the new DRM? If you can get people to part with their money before there is anything to steal, sorry infringe the copyright of, then you are guaranteeing your income for your efforts.

the CEO of EA resigns.

He's been there since 91, that answers many questions.

lets hope his exit interview requires rubber gloves. There would be parity.

In their 'please, we didn't always suck!' response, they give some playable ones away.

"Last week, the company apologised for the continuing connection and server issues players were experiencing and stated that everyone who registers the game before March 25 will be allowed to choose one Origin game from a list of eligible titles to download for free."

I think they have a bit further to go back.

(I preferred the c64 version)

Nasty people EA,

I suggest that instead of buying this new SimCity you go onto steam and buy SimCity 4, works fine on Win7 and I have mine running at 1680x1050.

or better still go and buy Tropico 4 of steam.
