Yong Yeas take on Elite Dangerous Odyssey (Not Good)

And the point remains, YongYea making a video talking about the reaction to Odyssey .... will have no effect whatsoever, so stop pretending it's bigger than it really is. ;)
With 1.16m sub, he is big. I don't know him either and I have no interest to, but that's a fact.
For comparison :
Jim Sterling is just below 1m
Markiplier is also just below 1m
AngryJoe 3.6m

Those are all considered "big", and often mentioned outside youtube.
Even people like Quill 18 (700k~) or CohhCarnage (283K) have a massive impact.

Quill18 is largely responsible for the success of Cities Skylines for example. While CohhCarnage played an indie/niche game almost nobody knew (exanima) and suddenly said game went top 10 steam seller for nearly a week, something it never did for years since it's release.

For Kenshi, another (at the time) very unknown indie game, some popular Japanese youtuber made a video on it, and suddenly it went top seller on steam. To the point the dev came and asked what happened on the forum. He later went to japan for some game show and so on.

So yes, 1.6m is BIG.

At 1.6 million subscribers, I guess this fellow is a pretty big influencer. His review of Odyssey is damning, but spot-on from everything I've seen. Frontier should have sent him a plant bowl, LOL.

While I'm kinda depressed at the state of one of my favorite video games, I'm praising the Lord above that I don't work at Frontier. Morale and sense of job security has to be at an all-time low right now.

Meanwhile, I'm having a hard time finding enjoyment playing Horizons, not because I dislike the game (I've found some game loops that keep me entertained) but rather because any sense of progress is overshadowed by doubts regarding the future of the franchise. I tried playing yesterday, but I kept being plagued by "What's the point?" feelings. I'm sure I'm overreacting, but I think I'll wait until things settle before investing time in any aspect of Elite right now. No big deal, it's not the first time.
Ye pretty spot on but some things he mentioned have def been fixed already but for the rest 100% agree.
Then again I am fairly sure we will see more content being added until Console release. Well hopefully

Sorry, but it's not my fault that you're not aware that this is actually a very insular and very small community that is largely unaware of the wider gaming community. That's not an insult. That's simple reality. Why else would you think a streamer with 38K subs would have the same audience as one with over a million?
First, knock it off. You don't know what you're talking about.
Second, you have NO IDEA what I think, you're not psychic.
Third you are being insulting, it's condescending and patronising.
Lastly, you're incorrectly stating I assume a streamer with 38k subs (a stat you got wrong btw) has the same audience as a Youtuber with over a million subs. YOU are the one saying that, not me. I am saying YOU ARE COMPARING APPLES AN ORANGES.

Seriously now, drop it, you keep making yourself look more an idiot the more you argue with me.

I'll say it again, because some still don't get it ... Elite has gone through bigger dramas and is still here with it's highest player count ever.
YongYea making a video will have no effect whatsoever.

Only to you, I suspect.
Free advice; You are coming across as just a little hypocritical there ;)

You were literally telling me someone who had 38,000 subscribers was a big streamer. Compared to someone who has over a million.

It's not condescending, it's not patronizing. This is plain math. Maybe you should check their actual subscriber numbers before you claim they're a big streamer.

It will. Won't kill the game, but it will have an impact.

Otherwise, explain how smaller youtuber like Markiplier (subnautica popularity), Quill 18 (cities skyline), CohhCarnage (exanima) or that japanese guy (kenshi) had such an impact ?

There is also the snowball effect. Youtuber makes videos. People hear about the game, and check. More people check, more talking. Games is on everyone's radar, for better or for worse.

Did you miss the part where I provided concrete example of game that have been strongly influenced by small youtuber ? Or did you just ignore it because it was not convenient to your argumentation ?
That still doesnt make it valid. gamer devs like to suck up to streamers, no matter how much they get in return.

I doubt more than a few % of ED gamers knows these. hence they are technically irrelevant. I get it you like these streamers.

Who is Yong? Why do we care? All we care about is when they will fix the game, not some silly loser in his basement streaming.
Yong is a well respected gaming journalist whom people go to for aggregated information.
This includes stock broker financial analyst types who specialize in gaming investment.

If a game is panned, do you think an investor is likely to invest in that company?

Frontier cares very much about its financial status. Its shareholders especially.

Frontier is much more likely to pay attention to an influencer than we individual users because influencers influence investors. MONEY

Yong Yea's video is yet another incentive for Frontier to " Straighten up and Fly Right."

:)

The video dropped yesterday, and has been viewed 95,000+ times with 1,600+ comments.

I had no idea before today who this guy was, but he's clearly pretty influential in gaming circles.

I'm sure a company like Frontier, seeking to grow their customer base, cares what he has to say.

The fact Cities Skyline sold millions thanks to Quill 18, Subnautica sold millions thanks to Markiplier, or Kenshi became world known and likely sold millions to is irrelevant ?
Also Rimworld success can be largely attributed to Youtube.

Not all ED player will see the video, but I'm sure some will, since I already read that people knew that youtuber. And it will be mainstream, picked up by the press, and you know they like their drama. All of that is bad press, and that's unhappy shareholders.

Lol, no, you're missing the point.

Fdev actually hired streamers of that level to stream the game and promote it. Raptor for instance has 900K subs.

They in fact didn't care if the ED gamers know them or not, because they were aiming for a wider audience.

Well, they got it. But not in a good way.
