Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Update on the mission I could not turn in yesterday. It was a completed mission. It was marked as completed in my transactions panel. I just could not turn it in because of an error of some kind -- the mission board would just reset.

I logged in today to turn it in, hoping the error would go away, but as soon as I logged in I got a "mission failed" message. LOL. It was complete, and now it's failed? The time shouldn't still be running after the mission is complete, but maybe it was? I don't know.

Just one more thing that ain't working right. On to the next :)

Do you know that feeling when you discover the first scratch on a brand new car?- This car will never be the same to you, regardless if it is fixable or not, you know that scratch was there and the joy of a brand new flawless car is gone. I feel like this with EDO - the new shininess has a stain on it which won't go away, even it will be fixed later on. And even worse, now I have to fear that this stain will be transferred to EDH as well and mess EDH up just the same - awful new lighting, how could that even pass quality assurance.

Honestly, this is not an Odyssey thing. It always worked like this and it did bother me before. I guess it's just more visible now.

there is a video from someone else as well, showing the rendering process of a typical settlement near the entrance gate - i just couldn't find it, otherwise i'd added it. But the result is there the same - a lot of stuff, what is finally occluded, is rendered first just to be hidden by something in the foreground later on.

Of course FDev can fix this, because they have done it in horizons - that is what is really disappointing, that they didn't bother to do it right before releasing it - but now they have "mostly negative" for the dlc in steam and this won't go away anytime soon. If FDev wanted to attract new audiences, this is now a huge obstacle if not a barrier even..
Horizons on Steam dug themselves up from "Mostly negative" only very recently. It's been review-bombed when Engineers update went live. Never seemed to bother people. :)
Every Elite update begins with review bombing and lots of issues. I wouldn't worry.

Went and visited Fe on foot as I'd only met her through my ship screens before. It was nice to see her base was not one of the generic ones I'd seen so far - but then it is the first planet one I've been to outside of a shuttle run.

I did want to grab a photo of her and I having a cuppa, but switching to the external camera caused everything to go black and culled occlusionally ( d'y'see what I did there?).

Anyway. I had a carrier jump that didn't cause a CTD so hooray for everything \o/

You can target them but only at close range and only if they have shot your ship, but just as orbital battle stations have trouble with small fighter ships our ships systems aren’t set up to deal with individual people.
Ships on the other hand are massive targets and therefore quite easy to hit.

Dont get me started on the orbital battle station vs small fighter thingy. Big superlaser cant target, ok, fairplay. Small turrets on station cant? Thats just plot armor. Hell, a road runner Wile E Coyote Acme style pop up steel barrier inside the trench would have ended things. Or a shield.

As for targetting technology in Elite, thats well, questionable even against ships. Just look at the jitter when your beams try to hit a barn sized target at 2km. A human holding a laser pointer probably has less jitter.

Is_Game_...... ok rant over

looks like Thursdays are good shopping around days. Got these two at the planetary outpost I was currently docked at after the update. (y) 🍻

Anyone know if suit upgrade slot items can be moved between same suit types, at engineers perhaps?

I don’t know for sure but I think I remember reading that upgrades were fixed once applied to a weapon or suit.
That was in one of the teaser threads from before the Alpha release.

What kind of resolutions are most of you running the game in? I use 1080p and all settings on Ultra or max, supersampling at 1.0. Been getting 60fps pretty constant. Are some of you running on 4k?

I'm running 4K with everything ultra including ultra4screenshot. I get ~40-50 fps on planets and 60+ in space. The new patch raised fps in stations significantly, even on foot. I also use a Reverb G2, which is ~4K and the performance on that on is also better with the patch. RTX 3070 and Ryzen 3950x.

Doing now? Looking at planets. They are a lot more interesting in Odyssey, so I'll drop the combat rank for a while and go explore the galaxy :alien:
