Are you hovering half a meter above the actual mountain side?
No, standing on a ledge, zoom in a bit.

If I zoom in, it gets very pixelated at the scale I would need to recognize the difference. Therefore the honest question, bc i couldn't distinguish itNo, standing on a ledge, zoom in a bit.
FWIW other than the weird bacteria multiplying in petri dish effects at a certain altitude, I'm not seeing this repeated texture/shape effect at all, and I've been looking for it. I'm playing on ultra, maybe that matters? I think that while OP has clearly found something odd, it appears to be fairly rare that the effect is anywhere near that extreme.
I would think, as long as nobody gets abusive or abused, everybody staying as reasonable as possible in a gaming forum, everybody is entitled to their own play style and priorities and "dramatic" is quite overstating the discussion here.Looking carefully in a system with around 20 landable bodies both atmos and none I saw some on one body so it does happen, but I certainly don't think it's intentional and will be fixed just like the issues with Horizons showing repeated patterns was fixed. Mind you it took months for Horizons and I don't recall all this drama and excitement and threats to quit and demand money back etc. Calling it a killer of exploration is rather dramatic don't you think?
Wow, memories indeed. That probably took a week to render back then, too.

For some who can't unsee the patterns (me included), this kills the exploration part. I'm for instance nearly a sole explorer, for me this is "game breaking". And it's far more prevalent than 1 out of 20.
Do I think it is for everyone the same experience? No.
And I'm honestly happy it isn't such a problem for you and you can enjoy Odyssey and "blaze your own trail"![]()
I guess it really depends on the type of planets. Haven't come across any obvious copied patterns for a while now.I would think, as long as nobody gets abusive or abused, everybody staying as reasonable as possible in a gaming forum, everybody is entitled to their own play style and priorities and "dramatic" is quite overstating the discussion here.

No, I don't think it is dramatic, but hey, that's just me, my opinion and nothing else. You don't think it's dramatic that a problem that persisted for months in Horizons is suddenly a game breaker when it turns up for less than a week in Odyssey?
You think that justifies demands for refunds and things like that?
Yes I do consider that dramatic.
I have been a sole explorer since Horizons dropped, if I couldn't put up with a visual bug for a few weeks as the game gets sorted than that's maybe a reflection on my ability to control expectations and emotions than anything related to the game.
I remember those daysI guess it really depends on the type of planets. Haven't come across any obvious copied patterns for a while now.
And getting the Horizons planets right took a while, yeah... They first redid them all because of very obvious terrain glitches, then the beigification happened where they were all super boring, and then, with beyond I think, they recoloured them and they started to look good. It was quite the journey.
It's billions of different planets and procedural generation. It's gotta be very hard to get them right.
And no matter how many people are trying to tell me the surfaces are bad, I know for a fact that they aren't in my opinion. Spent tens of hours on them.
The copied patterns are awful, yes. Beige planets back then were much worse though if you ask me.
Nope, OP made it clear in his video that every good looking screenshot is a lie. It's very obvious that he is trying to manipulate people, using bad voice acting, concealment of true Odyssey tech and lies. He probably went so far and secretly lowered the graphics settings in order to make Odyssey look worse. In his 'Horizons - Odyssey' comparison he didn't use a single good looking scene from Odyssey and claimed that they don't exist. He says that all height maps are fakes. Please don't speak for anyone else other than yourself, especially when it's clear they are completely different screenshots they are talking about!

The first 2/3 of the video is a comparision of good looking Horizons planets to the worst looking Odyssey planets. That already is a little bit dishonest because he could've also compared some of the good looking Odyssey planets to Horizons. But fair enough, the bad parts of Odyssey deserve criticism and it's fair to point them out.Now you are just sprouting accusations. Whatever dude. .I..
The Video you linked is not relevant to this topic, it mentions a different issue (the surface on foot). At 5:14 he starts with: 'some people are posting pictures like this [shows good looking terrain in Odyssey] and I want you to realise that these people are lying to you. This picture received a bunch of post-processing work to make it look much better than what you'd find in game. Gamma, contrast, shadows where reduced and highlights were increased. This is not what you get in game.'
This is simply not true. Take a look at the screenshots thread. Are all these people showing wonderful planets lying to us? They all use Photoshop to fool us?
Then he claims that he went to the same location in game and posts a screenshot that looks completely different to all the good looking Odyssey screenshots. I don't know how he managed to get the bad looking footage from 6:20-6:40 but clearly it's not what I see in game. When I see highlights in game and I get closer they are actually there. He claims they are faked and just a flat surface.

It was one of the first additional posts on this thread! It's relevant, because it is symptomatic of the dishonesty over Odyssey! The Video you linked is not relevant to this topic, it mentions a different issue (the surface on foot). The topic here is the surface from orbit!
The surface from orbit suffers due to copypasta tiling.
More or less - there is a second thread somewhere here especially for the ground problems - also created by the same author as this hereIt was one of the first additional posts on this thread! It's relevant, because it is symptomatic of the dishonesty over Odyssey!
those people have 8-12 GB VRAM... thats the secret for the ultra textures. People with 4-6 GB VRAM have low texture problems. We need to feed it more VRAM and it will be cinematic again!'some people are posting pictures like this [shows good looking terrain in Odyssey] and I want you to realise that these people are lying to you. I know, but the thread of the video was closed as a duplicate of this thread. The Video you linked is not relevant to this topic, it mentions a different issue (the surface on foot). The topic here is the surface from orbit!
