Just give us back horizons planet tech but with legs.

I've watched a bunch of vids about odyssey/horizons comparsion over last week and yeah...
We have triple up game size (from ~25Gb to ~75)
We have triple down performance
And we have this in the end:

So i'm interested... what's the point? Only different thing - much more detailed surface rocks. But overall - it much worse than it was. In all ways.
Many people already compare planet from prormo with it's real view but i can agree with it. Promo is promo. It always better than IRL
But with what i cant agree - that we got degraded P-tech.

So why FDev just not roll back old planets? I dont see any real reason why they cant do it.
Why players should get worse quality for additional money and performance cost?
Legs is good, settlements is good, station interiors is good.
But we all knows that ELITE is about exploring space and what a point of explorin copy-pasted 50th shades of grey balls?
It's boring. Exactly like man in vid says.

if you flyto exact the same positions where horizons was beauty then the chance is great that odyssey is looking worser.

BUT the other chanceis that odyssey looks better on other places and that is fact!
I ve never seen soo many good places in odyssey than in horizons!
maybe OPEN your eyes a bit ><
 
Just keep EDH and EDO separate.

Let the EDO peeps have their low grade FPS and "upgraded" planets/lighting, they paid for it.

Don't give it to EDH players. We paid for EDH, not EDO.

Kidding aside. I did a little bit of contemporaneous experimenting and I think I may be on to something.

Look at Thistles examples above. From orbit, it looks pretty good. From the surface, it looks pretty good. Flying above the planet looks so-so. That's about what I experience except when flying above the surface I get decidedly less than so-so results. I'm wondering if FDEV is using different render methods on the surface v. flying and the method they use while flying is borked. I snapped a couple of shots from on foot and from the camera suite of my landed ship to compare but I was in too dark an area to really see anything. I'll try again tonight if I can spare a moment while gathering pre-upgraded gear.

To me the worst point comes somewhere between OC interface and the end of glide. There is an altitude where whatever method they use is pretty in-your-face with the tiles. However once I get to a lower altitude things look much better and reflections and glare in high orbit are really nice. So I'll live with the not-so-good as I really enjoy those other perspectives the most anyway. I'd still like them to improve that as well as get rid of the melted plastic/frozen yogurt worlds that I do find here and there. Those are appalling.
