I notice the folder has 'read-only' checked. I uncheck it but when I look again it still has 'read-only' checked. Could be this?Always check your anti-virus. The AV can protect your pictures folder from unkown executables - eg Odyssey.
No that's correct you've never been able to take hi-res screenshots in Open because of how it is exploitable.I just checked, f10 works fine in Open play, and alt+F10 works fine in the single player mode. Just like it did in Horizons, right? I don't think anythings changed in that regard, you've always needed to jump off open play for the high-rez screenshots.
After getting them working earlier, I went into Horizons and took a couple, then went back into Odyssey and they wouldn't work again. I added the Odyssey exe to my exception list, and bam it worked straight away!BIG UPDATE, and I hope it's of use to people with similar issues.
After finding that my other machine had the exact same issue I looked further into the possible AV issue - it seems that the ransomware protection part of my AV wasn't allowing EliteDangerous64.exe to modify files, so I added an exeption in the rules and tested it out - and woop it worked!
So it seems that there might well be an issue where various AV programs don't know or trust the ED executable.
The path for the EDO executable is (for steam anyway) DRIVE LETTER/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Elite Dangerous/Products/elite-dangerous-odyssey-64 then look for EliteDangerous64.exe
Hope this helps others! o7
I'm curious what AV do you have? Or why do you even have it I guess is a better question, I have the default windows 10 thing turned on and it works pretty well in regards to picking up viruses and not doing anything wacky with programs like this. Also you'd probably free up some computer resources as well. Although too be honest I know how to avoid viruses for the most part so the only thing it's really picked up are .dlls that I know will be picked up by avs, so my use for av's is minimal, so maybe different use cases/needs.No that's correct you've never been able to take hi-res screenshots in Open because of how it is exploitable.

So my anti-virus software at least is treating the Horizons exe and Odyssey exe differently. Bizarre, but thanks so much Nick. Let's hope that it carries on working after the next update, I can only assume that previously after a set amount of time my AV determined that the file was safe and allowed screenshots.
I use AVG, you can all keep your shrieks to yourselvesI'm curious what AV do you have? Either way nice that you got it working.
Well done Commander. I tried that with AVG and it works. Great! Looking forward to getting back to it.BIG UPDATE, and I hope it's of use to people with similar issues.

I'm really really glad its working for you! I'm guessing maybe the Odyssey exe hasn't populated around enough systems for it to have a good rep? IDK, either way hopefully it'll keep working now!No that's correct you've never been able to take hi-res screenshots in Open because of how it is exploitable.

I first had this screenshot problem with AVG 3 years ago. FDev couldn't help, but I finally figured it out. Whenever there's a problem with screenshots it's usually AVG.I use AVG, you can all keep your shrieks to yourselves
I've used it for many, many years. My new computer is the first time I've had Windows 10 and I wouldn't have trusted Windows security in Win7 at all, so I installed it by default. I'm savvy enough to avoid them, but I like having a backup just in case.
Hallelujah praise the lord! I took this by pressing F10.

Thank you @nickweb (or did this originate from @Ozric).
Haven't been able to use F10 to take screenshots since Odyssey launched. Was tearing my hair out (and mostly blaming GeForce Experience).
Added EliteDangerous64.exe to my AVG exceptions and bingo, SOLVED.

I am guessing you are playing through Steam, as F12 is the Steam screenshot key. F10 and Alt+F10 are Elite's screenshot keys.Mine is on F12, but it doesnt take screenshots either. It gives the shutter sound, and the mini window with a picture in it shows up, but it not where it is supposed to be.
@Comtedeloach Steam > user tab > content > upload screenshots > select "ED" > show on disc, will show you all your glorious screenshots.Mine is on F12, but it doesnt take screenshots either. I will go check that out, thanks.@Comtedeloach Steam > user tab > content > upload screenshots > select "ED" > show on disc, will show you all your glorious screenshots.![]()
