Looks like I'm buying Odyssey....

That also made me very sad. No Odyssey content at old POIs (with the exception of one SRV wreck that had a panel to cut and loot).
It's a pity because there's really no reason to visit those legacy Horizons locations on foot - the EDO POIs (mission and random) are actually pretty decent (glitches aside) so they could've just chucked some of those elements at the Horizons bases.

It's just one example of a major gripe I have with EDO gameplay wise - it's way too siloed in that there's barely any overlap between EDH and EDO apart from using your ship to get from A to B - why can't there be delivery missions to settlements for example, given they have their own markets now. Stuff like that, nothing overly fancy.

And out in the black (where there actually shouldn't be POIs on every.single.landable.planet) you only get EDH POIs, which is frustrating me twofold :p

Best make a bucket list containing every single bug and glitch and issue that has been mentioned and then check them all out focusing entirely on that task!

(That was a joke. Don't do that.)
I just want to go exploring. First in the Bubble, walking around settlements, then to my own "personal Bubble" out in deep space, somewhere I haven't been in months. I might try a CZ before heading out, because I do enjoy FPS games. Ultimately I'll be playing Odyssey like I play Horizons - do what I enjoy (and what works) and ignore the rest.

The question is, will there be anything that I enjoy that works? I guess I'll find out this weekend!

but there seems to be a subset of players who really like my Immersion Mod and are looking forward to an Odyssey-compatible version, which I cannot do without Odyssey
Note that even if you buy Odyssey, you may not be able to offer an Odyssey-compatible version of your mod 😁
Also note that the space in Odyssey is as black as in your mod. I'm curious to see the consequences of making the black even blacker. Is it like dividing by 0 ?

I left a HUGE disclaimer to everyone in that thread that this may be the case.

I have my own idea of what space should look like, and I'll do my best to adjust what Frontier gives us to what I want. If Odyssey is too dark, then I'll adjust the shader in the opposite direction to brighten it up. I personally like SPACE to be dark but for stars to be bright. The advantage of individual pixel shaders is that I can adjust them independently - turn up star brightness, turn up HUD and interior brightness, turn down planet brightness, turn WAY down neutron star brightness, etc.

In theory, of course.

I think the settlement missions are properly dead good. And I think once they've given everything a bit of a polish it'll be much more fun to explore than it was in Horizons.

Haven't played the CZs much for an informed opinion.

But some of the issues are a bit rage-quitty at the moment, so be warned.

I mostly just want the maverick flashlight working again (unless I've missed something), as restore missions are verging on unplayable if you land on the dark side.

I must try this myself... Someone suggested that going to outfitting and applying the chest piece twice cured the flashlight issue. I also have it disappear at the most inconvenient of times so will check this idea when I am next in a station / outpost / settlement!

I was recently gifted the funding to purchase Odyssey, so it won't cost me any of my own money, and yet I'm not much excited about buying it. I am curious, mainly because I just want to experience for myself all that Odyssey is and is not. I also have this vain hope that I might be able to "fix it" on some level, at least the lighting. But all in all, I'm almost grimacing at the idea of giving Frontier any money, even someone else's money, for this DLC in it's current state. I hate rewarding bad behavior. Though once I buy it, I can leave my own Steam review, so Frontier may rather I don't buy it!

I am going to try to experience Odyssey "untainted" by all the negativity surrounding it, forming my own opinions separate from the "mob". Who knows, maybe I'll end up loving Odyssey? I've seen videos and livestreams that make me think I'll be very disappointed in Odyssey, but I've also seen videos and screenshots that makes me think it's not so bad after all. Like Horizons, if I can find a subset of gameplay loops to enjoy from the "buffet" of options, that would be good.

Still, I should feel more excitement rather than apprehension about buying the "New Era" DLC from Frontier. If I hadn't been gifted the funds for this specific purpose, I would not be spending my own money on it. I think this is a pretty damning commentary on just how bad the PR around Odyssey is at the moment. Frontier, you really screwed the pooch on this release.. You can't say I didn't warn you!

I'll update this thread after I download Odyssey and play with it a little bit. I'm going to wait until the next major patch (which I hope will come out this week) before committing to this purchase. Until then I'm playing other games, because even Horizons has lost its appeal due to the overall "sadness" in the community right now.

.... One should not have buyers remorse BEFORE pressing the "buy" button ....
My condolences. On the bright side Frontiers stock price will go up and the corporate scum responsible for this mess will continue to live the high life :)

Under this circumstances I would say ...yes. But you have been warned.
Things you should try:
Have a look at the new Stations on foot.
Unlock Domino Green.
Sneak into a settlement and steal everything without raising the alarm. Bonus round: Kill as many NPCs as possible with the Energy Link without alarming the whole settlement. (my "Highscore" is 16 atm). You better do this in an Anarchy system and be prepared to pay a big fine)
The last point should provide a few hours of "fun", if you liked games like Splinter Cell
If you are a good Cmdr who dislikes crime you can walk through most settlements without causing any trouble, just avoid coming too close too NPCs (the red ring in the radar in the upper left corner) and if you can't avoid them let them scan you without moving, if you hear the "S" in "Stop Commander!" you should put your hands away from keyboard and mouse

Or the shoulder pieces, the chest plate alone did nothing when I had this bug. Removing all skins worked, too

What is kind of surprising me is that there's a time window of several days (1 or 2 weeks? I'd need to check) between the announcement of the road map and the delivery of the same.

If Frontier planned to push out the release knowing all the issues with a view to fix them afterwards, wouldn't they already have come up with a road map even prior to release? Maybe I'm overthinking this but it doesn't give me the impression that they're in control of the situation. We'll see how detailed it is on Friday anyways, should be a decent indicator of how organised they are about it.
We don’t know what is going on in the background, trust me corporations is mostly 90% politics and 10% business if you get my point.

Logic is not always applied.

Been working for several blue-chips for the past 20 years so am pretty familiar with how they work - some are more organised than others though.

Sounds like a good idea. :)

Try really REALLY hard! I genuinely want to know your unbiased opinion. I'm far too engaged with the community to have remained uninfected by the opinions of others. I'm pretty sure 90% of my dissapointment with Odyssey is my own but I'm just not sure ay more. Negativity is so infectious. Perhaps the way to approach it is not as an "upgrade" to a game you already love, but as a brand new game. If you'd never played Elite, if you'd never learned to accept and even love the foibles of its existing UI, if you hadn't grown used to the lightning of Horizons and the look of its existing locations (tip: do NOT go looking for your favourite old locations, they won't make you happy) ... what would you think? An impossible task to imagine of course but I genuinely wish you the very best.

Honestly, I love it, but am also upset about how broken so much of it is (even now), I know they will continue to fix things, but I wish they had not pushed it so quickly from Alpha

the chest armour... equip different chest armour

I’m probably on your block list so you won’t see this.. but Odysee for me at least was far better when I couldn’t play it.

Wait until it sinks in that’s all they added. And it’s completely bolted on as many have said.

Good luck with making any interim fixes for the graphics.
