Looks like I'm buying Odyssey....

What is kind of surprising me is that there's a time window of several days (1 or 2 weeks? I'd need to check) between the announcement of the road map and the delivery of the same.

If Frontier planned to push out the release knowing all the issues with a view to fix them afterwards, wouldn't they already have come up with a road map even prior to release? Maybe I'm overthinking this but it doesn't give me the impression that they're in control of the situation. We'll see how detailed it is on Friday anyways, should be a decent indicator of how organised they are about it.
The roadmap is just a marketing gag. As soon as it's posted we can begin criticising the roadmap instead of the game. 🤷‍♂️

Hey Old Duck.
I'm usually slightly more pro Frontier than anti & I'v always said that it's each person's own individual choice.

Purchasing Odyssey at the moment is akin to a roulette wheel, depending on what gaming rig you have.
Some number's get lucky & it works well.....other's not so lucky

Roll up, Roll up! Place your bet's!!....

..do you feel lucky?....WELL DO YOU PUNK??

I also was just gifted with $50 to buy Oddysey.. For me I'm not so sure about buying any deluxe type that gives a suit or alpha access. I can just watch a YouTube play it. My hope however is that frontier will give console players a release date this Friday! 🤔

You meant if it ends with "ship interiors, VR, small seismic charges, offline mode, optional return of the old ADS, PP improvements and cockpit cats", right?

Hey I’m not greedy and perfectly reasonable :p Just ship interiors would easily take odyssey into “good”. Left as is it will be forever as average and probably a good case study for university students studying game development.

My opinion only of course.

In my opinion current focus should be:

1. Performance
2. Bugs
3. UI
4. Improvements to planetary generation

After that the expansion is finally ready for release and we can discuss additional content like ship interiors or VR implementation.

Yeah. Personally I assume those things will be given (due to being needed for console launch) so dont think they’re that interesting.

Odysee as whole expansion seems like it’s missing one or two new things.. I can wait for fixes.. but won’t be “recommending it to my friends” until…

The only hope everyone has at the moment is the changes haven’t been done yet.

About the settlements gameplay side imo it is probably one of the nicest little hidden gems in EDO to be honest. The variation and themes in them is large enough to not bother me too much, you have industrial, military, touristic, research, mining, farming etc, and then multiple sizes for each with varying threat levels. In addition, the states they can be in add a new variation layer (active, abandoned, damaged etc) as they look and play in totally different manners.
I'm with you there. The settlement types, sizes, mission types and time of day make for plenty of little variations. This is a lot more fun than I originally expected.

follow a LVL2 NPC along its patrol inside a building
This had me laughing so much when I found out it worked. Tailgating is such a classic security breach, I found it hilarious that you could do it in game. Clearly the scientist wasn't briefed about proper security processes!

And last night I got a little extra from a settlement mission. For the first time I randomly came down to a settlement besides which a player's Python was parked. While I waited for him to be done inside before I started my rocket farming of scavs, I was watching from a distance while standing on his ship. The scene suddenly was caught in a massive shadow as his wing-mate flew in from orbit. It's already one thing to see the scale of your ship while on foot or with the free camera, but seeing another CMDR run back to his ship and look like a tiny little ant is another level in carrying the scale of things.

Depends on if it ends with “ship interiors”. Cant see any complaints then.
The idea that there's any future content listed on that roadmap is made up from nowhere.
It was announced as a roadmap about fixing issues and giving us details about those.
There's not a single word about future content.

So if that roadmap is exactly what they said it would be, disappointment is completely on you.

Well of course its made up. Odysee is what it is, and i've got my personal score for it. That's quite okay too.

I think FDEV´s settlements solution for a 1:1 scale galaxy (even if limited to the bubble) is quite elegant and with a bit of hindsight... logical. The solution for solid mission content in such a vast galaxy is obviously not to author or script content but rather to come up with a procedural system based in some authored building blocks that presents you with tons of permutations and action/consequence variations that make every encounter literaly very different from the previous ones.

The stealth elements in particular are great.

Even if you go back to the same settlement the time of the day may be different and your visibility (and NPC detection range) may be different, you may now be wanted in that jurisdiction and may need more precautions and take less risks, the state of the settlement may have changed, the rank of the NPCs may be higher and react faster to your moves, that patrol guard there may be a few meters ahead and prevent you from cloning a scientist ID at the right time and force you to retreat and hide, different gravities will prevent you or allow you to reach that ledge in time etc etc.

Also the way to achieve your goals is quite broad, cloning ids, arc cut, gun them all down, follow a LVL2 NPC along its patrol inside a building etc. All these actions have reactions that can be countered etc turning these settlements into really cool puzzles to unravel that allow for tons of creativity, especially when in a wing, and every time the combination to get there will be different and force you to adapt. They have significant replayability imo.

I think it is probably one of the best solutions for content in a 1:1 scale galaxy, and FDEV have delivered it very elegantly, imo, especially when we consider it all is integrated with the BGS.
I don't really disagree with you on settlements in terms of their layouts or functionality, and I enjoy spending time in them (performance issues aside), variation is sufficient - it's more their aesthetics that are a bit too similar - the same beige blocks everywhere.

Jesus ing christ, the game is broken and we have threads like this? How far does your tongue reach up that ass eh?

FD: we introduce to you space legs and millions of new landable planets to explore,
so you can finally leave your ship you have been locked in for years!

Some Commanders: space legs, cool, can I walk through my ship interior? No? Bad space legs, not interested :(

I guess this is some kind of Stockholm syndrome relationship with your ships.
You have been locked in too long and it twisted the priorities/balance in experiencing freedom of movement :)

Open in Horizons is pretty safe now, not a single ganker around when i was playing with the current CG on the weekend.

Barely any non-gankers around either for that matter.
Well, It seems like most of commanders prefer to play "broken" EDO then EDH anyway.
So either it's not THAT broken, just unpolished, or we are all masochists :)))
