Newcomer / Intro Circumnavigation of the Galaxy...

Greetings Commanders. It is I, the intrepid explorer Brenda Zephyr here, to tell you about my latest adventure in progress. Having successfully flown to the center of our galaxy and seen with my own eyes the dark beast that rages there (Sgr A*), I thought to myself, surely there must be some new adventure I can take me and my trusty Dolphin class star ship on? So, I had the dolphin painted a Graphite grey, changed my weapons to higher energy weapons (ok I admit, they are just purple lasers), and a newly commissioned FSD drive that allows my small starship to make jumps of slightly better than 28 light years at a pop. No special engineering for me. Nope, just a raw ship. Standard equipment, and the will to once again, push myself beyond normal human endurance.

So right this very moment, as I am nearing the edge of the bubble outward towards the outer arms of our galaxy, I will tell you my current goal lies within the Achilles's Altar region of the galaxy, and from there, I will make a counter clockwise journey, around the outer inner edge of our galaxy, and hopefully, live to tell the tale. Now then, if you look at the image of our galaxy, you'll note that it has puzzle piece regions.I intend to stay within the 2nd band of regions from the edge.

Having only been a certified pilot for 22 days, I am finding my new found freedom to adventure, calls to me to go further and further into the black.

Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.

You really should get an EDSM account for that, so you can create (have EDSM create for you) a map of your travels.

As you bid your friends goodbye
To a foreign land, you fly
Gather stories one by one
Of the things you did for fun

Pack memories in your mind
Sit back, relax and unwind
We’ll wait to hear everything
Bon voyage, fly on facile wings

I've done a circumnavigation of the galaxy a long while back, and it's an amazing experience to do. Good luck, and plan your jumps.

I have an edsm account but for some reason it refuses to link my character to elite. Shows my character. Shows my api key etc, but NOTHING else works. It simply refuses to generate anything for me. I mean, I have zero clue how you generated that map. Elite and everyone around it, seems to assume you already know how to do stuff, and doesn't EXPLAIN anything in language the average dummy like me, can understand. Ya'll flip around abbreviations etc, just assuming everyone knows what the f*** you are saying (not you in particular, just elite devs and players in general).

No clue how to generate such a map. So, went looking, and gasps still find NO F***ING way that makes any sense, on how to generate such a map.

SERIOUSLY. Ya'll really need to consider the fact that new players do NOT know every little idiotic tweak this massively over complicated game requires. Then you get into the 3rd party crap, and it's even worse. If anything is going to make me quit this game, it's everyone giving me advice on doing things without f***ing explaining how to F***ING do it.

I thought EDSM would offer a way to import your player data directly from FD, but I can't find it. Since you're on PC anyhow, never mind that.

EDSM needs to analyze your player journal. So you can (safe, but tedious) manually upload your journal files through https://www.edsm.net/en/settings/import/journal
Or you can install one of the usual utilities on your PC - EDMC, EDDiscovery - which can do the uploading for you. You need to provide them with your CMDR name and the API key and enable the data transfer (and, if you use more than one of them, enable the data transfer only for one of them).

In my case, the EDSM settings look like this:

And yes, I have two accounts on this Windows account (three, actually - but the third doesn't use EDDB or EDSM), but I don't use them concurrently. I just close one launcher, then start the other (two launcher copies, one for each account - logging out of the launcher and back in again with the other account also works, but is too much effort).

...and if you have your logs uploaded to EDSM (any way), you can find your map under your CMDR profile (top right should be your CMDR icon, or the default helmeted CMDR, the drop down then has "My Travel Map".

Ok, EDDiscvovery I do have. Haven't figured out what it does or how to do anything with it so just left it sitting on my desktop feeling left out and forlorn. But every time I try to link my account, I get an 500 internal error from frontier so it's just one more useless thing.

I apperently only have 1, a steam account, even though I bought EDO fully from the frontier store after steam got me twisted over them refusing to refund the Odyssey dlc that I couldn't play, because I dared to play horizons while I waited for steam to refund me, which they refused because I was playing Horizons and they claimed I was playing EDO. Needless to say, I'll never use steam for anything other than looking up potential games to buy, and then taking my business to the company and leaving steam high and dry. because frankly, after how they treated me and their ridiculous claim that horizons game time counts as odyssey game time, was my last straw with them. Steam won't see another dime from me. Not that they care. Corporate theives never care. But I honestly wish horrid things on everyone who works for them, and wish the ceo would contract some horridly disfiguring disease that leaves them gasping for breath, smelling like they died, had a bowel movement, and wet themselves. Oh and open painful sores. Lot's of them.

"Link to your account" - you mean at FD? That would be in the CMDR Settings - Frontier CAPI. Unnecessary as long as you're on PC. And is currently (again) bugged due to the Odyssey release. Just ignore it. Everything else doesn't need the FD backend to work.
If you run EDD on your PC, it should find the Journal files in the default savegames location - if not, that's pretty much all you need to do, point it at your Journal files.
I just discovered that there's even a YT video for that:

Well... EDDiscovery is doing 'something' at EDSM.

Sent 200 Events to EDSM

It's sending everything i've done since May 5th so I have a LOT of those send events so far. 150 of them and counting...

Ok, now the game is just messing with me. I had a route plotted. Bookmarked the destination. Had to log out, and when I came back, my route will no longer plot to the very place it was previously plotted w/o an issue. It's things like this that are frustrating. How in the heck can you have a plot to somewhere, just suddenly be un-plotable for zero reason, when it had been plotted before.

edit NOW it's saying maximum distance exceeded, except my goal star is only 18366 ly,s from me. So really.. what the heck?
2nd edit (kinda like 2nd breakfast) Made a single jump in the general direction of where I am going (btw, the jump I made was the same jump I would have made on my previous plotted course), and then re-plotted my course to my destination system, w/o a problem. Same course as originally had plotted, same destination star on my first jump, just between one star system and another along my route, I went from "distance exceeded" to a perfect plot. This must be one of those bugs ED has. Frustrating to say the least, and it's prolly one of those sneaky bugs that are next to impossible to track down.

Circumnavigation of the galaxy has been suspended due to ODYSSEY not playing nice. Switched from Horizons, to odyssey, to check jump count for my target system, then switched back to horizons. Went to use a repair limpet on my ships hull, only to discover my cargohold full of repair limpets was empty. Ok fine, I'll synth more... exceptttt my materials are short, ok ok, I'll land and gather up some mats... exceptttttttt.. when I landed, I discovered that my SRV was also gone. This Dolphin is a dedicated explorer build, it always has a 2g srv hanger, and an srv, as well as full cargo of rep limpets. And before I left for this little jaunt, I made sure I was stocked and rocked. Now i find that somewhere between Bilbari and where I was when I discovered this little issue, my ship decided to just randomly dump both items. Likely when I switched from EDH, to EDO, and then back to EDH. So. I am currently having to fly 3000 fricking light years BACK to a place where I can buy an srv and more limpets.

As it stands now, I don't think I am ever going to play anything in Odyssey again. It's to buggy, and is causing too many issues in the game when you switch between the two. I'll revisit Odyssey in 3 months if I am still alive then (I have cancer, so hard to say how long i'll be around to scream in impotent rage at my monitor while cussing FDev's to the darkest reaches of the netherworld).

There have been some substantial improvements for route-plotting in Odyssey rolled out in today's patch.
I won't have time to try it out until midnight, but if it works according to the patch notes, most of my woes should be gone. (Except the UI. I guess that one is to stay.)
