Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 2 | Horizons Update

You're trying to run ultra on a 7700k and a 970 mate. I run medium on a 9900k / 2070 and suffer similar frames. That is a VERY old GPU though, although it was more than sufficient for Horizons. But yeah, that won't cut the mustard sadly for Odyssey. I never ran Horizons on Ultra and I had the exact same CPU/GPU as you back in the day.
Yes, this is quite old hardware. But for this level of graphics, it is more than enough. I do not experience similar problems in any modern game, where the level of graphics is much higher.

They upped the textures, so the requirements changed mate. It's not a case of "It worked before". But you may be right, as I run a 2070 super and still suffer pathetic performance.

Many of these are excellent news, especially the hotkeys for medpacs and energy cells, so thank you, it's much appreciated.

I know it's minor, but I'm hoping that you'll get around fixing the SRV chair soon. It was pretty lazy to just take a flight chair and stick it in without even removing the floor mount. The trouble is, once you've noticed it protruding through the floor of the Scarab, you can't un-see it...

This patch for me is utter trash, and breaks a ton of things that were not that bad in the previous 'update'.

Hangars were running at 30fps with a ship that remains in my dimension- here the FPS is 6-7 fps down and depending on where I stand parts / all of it just vanish. If I stand in what I assume is a boundary between the hangar and the connecting room with the lifts the whole station just vanishes- but at least when it does I get decent fps...

And I get half the performance in the concourse. From 15fps down to 7 or 8.

Its going to take a miracle to get this to run on old consoles in a way thats acceptable. I honestly thought with update 2 things were turning around for low spec guys, but anything Odyssey runs like crap. At least sat in my cockpit I get 50fps and don't have to wait five seconds for the exit to desktop menu.

Within the same system, i was getting a nicely lit skybox, with a bright Milky Way
Then while approaching a planet (a station actually) the skybox darkened to pre patch leves... and now it is still like that

Edit: i'd really wish the lighting issues to be perma fixed and in every location

Strongly and I'm very strongly recommending, FDEV considers working on an UE5 port for support PC and consoles and improved graphics without the FPS hit!

Especially more focus on AI and learning to make NPC interaction more immersive. Allow us to hire NPCs on the ground to raid!

Is anyone else's game crashing when selecting a plant from the System Map while on foot or in the SRV?
Never happened before, now it's become very common for me. Crashed already 4 times in the past 15 minutes.

And the mods aren't authoritarians that just delete your post because they disagree with you.
They wouldn't just delete your post, you were outright banned if you posted over there that you thought SC would not release before 2017. It was classified as 'spreading doubt and fear' and you'd get a ten year (!) ban. Its now 2021, there is no release date, they pretend it is not alpha but 'released now' unless you want to review it ("Not fair, it is pre-alpha!"). Btw, here is a totally friendly non-censored topic from yesterday within the friendly and tolerant and open-minded SC community.

You can criticize any game studio for many things. They are corporations, and we as consumers need to be critical. But there is nothing in the history of the industry as fundamentally dishonest and vile as CIG, it is 100% pure undiluted anti-consumerist fleecing.

Some initial feedback from playing for half an hour or so. i7 9700, RTX2060s 8GB, 16GB RAM.

Low CZ at settlement - max 40fps at Ultra/2k - feels like I got 5-10fps more. My g-sync monitor still does most of the heavy lifting making this look relatively smooth (using that word generously). Still plenty of jank and stutter.

Approaching planetary port - outside mostly 60fps, still some stutter/jank upon transition/glide, ugly detail pop-in. A bit improved sure, but still worse than in Horizons.

Planetary port concourse - mostly unchanged, very janky and stuttery especially towards the bar area, getting anything between 60 (locked) and 32fps. Not impressed considering what's on display. Looking at the lift doors towards the hangar I don't even get 60fps (I get 50).

Gamma seems to work better now, when I increase it the skybox shows a bit more detail, same for cockpit and my CMDR avatar appears less dark (didn't test this too much though so reserve judgement in brighter light conditions). The brightness discrepancy between target HUD section and rest of cockpit HUD is still there, very disappointing because it stares you right in the face, 100% of the time when in the cockpit.

Paintjobs of ships and FC's are NOT fixed. Very disappointing especially given these are still sold on the store. Buyers beware is all I can say.

Viper 3 default camera angles are still not fixed, even though it's mentioned for the Viper 4. I guess it'd take too much effort to double check when applying these fixes, right.

My PC still works out and gets hot like it's mining bitcoin. Not happy about this.

All in all pretty underwhelming then, the gamma working now is the most notable improvement for me although it feels more like a workaround as it does make other areas more washed out.

Baby steps I guess.

Same here - have you ran around a settlement yet? I am experiencing it there too.
I do my normal low spec test and go from my docked Corvettes cockpit, disembark, do a figure of eight around the hangar looking at the ship and looking away, then jog to the lifts, and walk round the various places in the concourse. From doing training the fps was dire, stuff like fire totally crippled the fps to the point where I just gave up.

Multiple hotfixes, patches and updates in and the ships still sinking.

Okay cool... nice job and well done...
But... please STOP messing around with MY OWN key bindings!
Now I have to configure everything again... :(
If you go into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings and open your .binds file then change the word "DEFAULT" to a name of your own choosing: <Root PresetName="DEFAULT" MajorVersion="4" MinorVersion="0"> then that will appear in the drop-down in your controls settings which you can select each time there's a new patch which does this. It also makes it easy to get your keybinds back if you go into Horizons and find it's gone back to default binds too.
