Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 2 | Horizons Update

I agree lets call out what is wrong but as the community, steer clear of directing questions about how FDEV runs their company, thats not our mandate at all
.
I really hope (but highly doubt) they'll strategically have UE5 port on their roadmap to improve texture use and lighting for PCs and consoles. Food for thought.

Here is my feedback for this latest update. It appears to be in line with what others are experiencing:

First of all I experience no performance gains. Frames per second are still around ~30 FPS at 1440p with a GTX 2060.

Lighting contrast remains "broken" with dark stuff being extremely dark:

SRV emmisive paintjobs still look nothing like what they used to -- Colours are way too white and still display a lack of bloom:

From the cockpit view there is even less (none) brightness/bloom -- There is definitely a constrast issue depending on whether we're in the cockpit or not -- You fixed part of this with the skybox discrepancy between in-cockpit and freecam -- I fear this is the same issue:

Other SRV paintjobs are also still suffering -- All of the reflective materials are matt and look like a different colour -- The thumbnails do a great job showing "what they used to look like":

The classic heatsink glow on ships is also still missing, no changes have been made and the bloom is non-existant:

The flight suit now has a helmet option though there are no icons -- Don't rush it guys:

Other suits do not have an opague visor -- This is really unfortunate and ruins the possibility for cool screenshots and the Rebuy Unlimited machinima -- Can you confirm this is coming?

ah! sorry.. I thought they were also the people who broke stuff. Leaving features out as they're not complete is one thing.. applying them broken is completely different. Those damn bosses and suits breaking the DLC for us! If only there had been some sort of Alpha test to show how badly everything was performing.
First: I have a lot of respect for David Braben, CEO or not.
Second: are you implying you really think the actual developers deserve no thanks for their work and rather should be subjected to pointing fingers and blame?

Great about the bugs fixed but absolutely no difference for me on the performance.
Can't complain with a 2060 but it's performing exactly the same as before this update.

Sincere question - is your praise based on the patch notes or your experience actually playing Odyssey post-patch?
Presumably given the vast differences in performance from machine to machine, there are people out there who have had zero issues at all. Or just haven't been able to get out to Specsavers for 18 months due to the pandemic.

Just did a quick test of docking, disembarking and walking around the concourse.
Space - maybe it's a little less dark, hard to tell, still doesn't look as good as Horizons.
Galmap - no visible improvement, still clunky and ugly compared to Horizons, still more clicks required.
Galmap - system states still look wrong to me - clicked on lots of random systems and at first every system showed a state of 'Boom' then every system I clicked showed a state of 'None' including populated systems.
System map - at least it loaded quicker, but still has a 4-5 second pause when you click 'Back'
System map - still a complete mess of FC's clogging up the map.
Optimisation - None, in fact I think I've lost a few FPS in the concourse, it was staying in the 30-35FPS range, now it's back in the 25-30 range. ( I get 40-45 average FPS in Cyberpunk at the same resolution and it looks better :( - maybe because that game actually is using DX12 - FYI DX12 is not new it was first released 4 years ago! )
New Binds - good to see something asked for in the Alpha has been added - would be nice is I didn't have go into my key binding and back out again a few times for my previous binding to work ( ie I clicked the hotas button to enter supercruise and nothing happened, I checked the binding, it was still there, back out and try again, now it works ).

I've not bothered playing much in the last week due to all the issues, this patch doesn't really change anything for the better.

We've had almost 400 fixes in the last 2 weeks. That would be impressive for a beta - but for a full release of a full priced DLC - that's not good - especially as most of the core complaints ( many of which existed in the Alpha ) are still not addressed.

The two main things people do in Elite, fly in space and use the UI's - both these experiences feel downgraded in Odyssey. Even the new planet tech is very hit and miss - some planets look great a lot of others look worse.

They keep "fixing" things which should be deleted like those new maps and outfitting. And still nothing changes in core fps.
