Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 2 | Horizons Update

Uhm. I am absolutely sure this is not the patch that is supposed to incorporate the feedback based UI changes.
I'm pretty sure that one will take a few more days to properly do that.
Sure, everything just "takes a few more days" - I'm a bit fed up with this attitude at the moment.

We are a few weeks into a disastrous release with no changes in sight if we put down the "rosarote Brille" for a moment.

Presumably given the vast differences in performance from machine to machine, there are people out there who have had zero issues at all. Or just haven't been able to get out to Specsavers for 18 months due to the pandemic.
I would take those "it runs fine for me" with a massive pinch of salt - without cold hard facts about their hardware and framerates at least - there's players for whom 15fps is "okay". 'Nuff said.

No "rosarote Brille" applied. It's software. They took feedback last week and are busy fixing lots of other stuff.
They'll go through feedback, then assemble a plan, then distribute work and then change stuff.
It sounds more like a project within a project and actually I wouldn't want this rushed. Rushing is what most likely caused the need for so many fixes.

Then start saying that is is that way, dear Frontier.
Nope, sorry, I don't know why this kind of horrible bug fixes, no customer information (one way would suffice) etc can be accepted in the game software world.

I work with software, have to supervise releases etc. Never ever would a customer of us let us get away with such a shoddy performance.

Roadmap allegedly comes tomorrow as per David Braben.
Let's wait for that before sharpening the pitchforks.

I'm still having to turn Super Sampling down from 2 to 1 to get a decent frame rate on planetary surfaces. Everything is fine with SS at 2 in space.

Yeah, but well, it is the way it is now, and if you work in software, then you should know that rushing now will make it worse, not better.
Fed up or not, there's no way any kind of pressure will fix the game faster or better.

Information, communication. Yeah, well. That's something else entirely. Roadmap by tomorrow and I really, really hope that's not the end of the line but the beginning of proper communication, otherwise there will be more fires.

Me? I'm chill. I can't be bothered to be angry about these things and I only see individuals and not companies.

Just look at Asobo (FS2020) how it's done, in terms of bug fixes, communication and testing.

I played that sim last night fwiw (felt I wanted to see that ELW a bit further up-close), in the French Alps at dusk, it's running around 40-50fps at 1440p and mostly Ultra settings. And looks photoreal.

I compare it with Elite because they currently stress my system in quite the same way as far as fan activity/heat is concerned.

I don't talk about fixing. But a patch, that actually does not fix a lot of stuff that is listed? How should I interpret that?

And no, angry is something else for me, I can still hop out to my veranda in a few minutes and enjoy a nice steak without too much of a thought about this here.

First impressions feedback: On my system we're now talking 15-20% performance increase. It's back to "playable" levels (still not as good as Horizons, but FAR better).

Minor suggestion: It seems "on foot" is more taxing than "in ship" at same locations. As a temporary stopgap, would it be possible to get separate detail level settings for on-foot and in-ship? Especially since on-foot-fps often is a lot more twitchy and FPS-dependant than ship. :)

We have the same kind of rig - same CPU/GFX/2 screens, but I have 64Gb ram [research pc]. Shame about your results - I will test similar to confirm, but provsionally, your results match mine and are disappointing.

I only use 1 screen for EDO as I didn't know you could bind them together .. something new for me to look at :)

Someone disputed my statement when I said this UI will need a lot more than just "some tweaking". And there you have it. 🤬
Instead of this ineffable issue tracker they should hire 2 or 3 dedicated professional CMs that are specialised on feedback from the forum and pipe that directly to the devs. Including feedback from there back to us. Personally, I could perfectly do without those pointless live streams in exchange for that.

I would really relish the opportunity to help those additional CM's channel that info to the Dev team. Most of the Kickstarter community that's still here, only want one thing, the continued success of this game.
