It's a friendship drive !
It's a friendship drive !
If I'm trying to fly from A - B then anything that prevents me from doing that is a timesink. If I want combat I'll go to a CZ, if I want mats I'll go to a USS. If I want to scan a planet if my dedicated exploration ship then just let me fly to the planet. I don't want a 'pilot skill check' every 5th system, whatever the rewards are.only if you expand the definition of content to be so generalized that it constitutes anything and is thus a useless word.
Valid and useful gameplay during travel to another system would involve tests of piloting skill in making it there. With benefits provided for success that improve things like time to reach the destination or perhaps uncovering a USS with beneficial commodities / materials that you otherwise wouldn't have that you can use. Or perhaps during your journey, you are contacted to participate in a holo control combat zone for a faction you recently visited the station of and you can drop into an SLF in the middle of a CZ fight while your ship is being controlled by your npc crew .... and if something unexpected happens in your real ship you'll be pulled out of the holo control instantly, but while you're there you can earn credits / bonds etc.
lots of different ways to create something that is actually beneficial to the player and meaningful to the game to fill in the vast empty nothingness that players deal with without resorting to pausing their progression with some optional nonsense that they'll just opt out of because it offers them absolutely nothing useful.
Oh.It's a friendship drive !
