Can you tell us if Smear Campaigns are in game yet? Anyone find one with the update?

But they are Smear Campaign Plans, so you'd be uploading your plans to smear them .... it could be the case, but it doesn't seem a great fit for an upload to me 🤷‍♀️

Still, getting 8 missions to upload smear campaigns, then abandon them to keep the material would go nicely with lowering Sirius rep and restocking on power regulators

Guess we should watch closely the Operations section... for example i usually avoid it but in that particular case i was searching all missions for material rewards and that's the only reason i picked the upload spyware mission.

What fantastic gameplay that abandon missions would make to unlock an engineer

I still think it is more likely to be a 'download' mission like Slush Funds, but good luck finding them as uploads - either way is quite fun - if Smear Campaigns are like Slush Funds you would have to take the mission and not hand it in - which is similarly evil to the Sirius unlock 😈

this type of talk needs to stop and is a big reason people have gotten all upset around here!

the dev did not say it would be in update 5

the dev said " This isn't in Update 4, at the moment we're aiming for Update 5."

so, if it doesnt show up in update 5 dont be upset because that is not what is said ;)

I don't think it is the talk that gets people upset but the state this game is in and how it is handled.

There’s plenty of people who seem rather upset that the DLC didn’t meet their expectations.
I think they have every right to be upset. This is not some new game we are talking about, Fdev have Horizon to base their new game or improved game upon that, unlike some new games that were just messed up because they had no experience in the matter. Odyssey should be on improvement and instead it looks like some new game that FDevs did for the first time.

Some Friday fun since I started collecting what data drops from which port types ...

Power Ports are the most boring, they seem to have the smallest range of drops

Hab Ports - illustrates why Opinion Polls (and the Multimedia) can be a pain (Opinion Polls is there, but the chart doesn't label it - 2.0%). Cat Media is actually quite common.

Security Ports has a similar range, but different drops. But now we're down to only 67 data points so the data is less trustworthy (nearly 300 data points for Habs, 100 for Power ports):

Fun stuff, even though not very useful :) I do wonder if there is some other pattern to the data, I should really start recording more about the places I find this stuff ... maybe next week!

Can't really +1 that enough. Thanks for putting it all together, you nutcase :)

I am still amazed you didn't see at least one interrogation recording in all that but that really does go to show how poluted by noise the sample can be.

This, to me, demonstrates that they need to either reduce the volume of useless data or give us more ports with the full volume of data every time, which I think is 6 per data port (and, I think there needs to be more ways of thinning those lists down to specifics, too). Or all of the above.

I have one Interrogation Recording from a Sec port, but Google Sheets randomly decides to not label some small stuff. But I need more samples. When you get down to Sec ports the counts are too often at '1' or '2'.

So, Google has confirmed, categorically, that Smears don't exist on a statistical scale even if we found one. Google knows all.

Hmm, not yet. If there are multiple overlapping sets of data in each port type influences by something then it is possible I haven't been to the right base in the right system / state. But once you have a certain amount of data you see little variation in the data. if there were overlapping datasets I would expect to be more surprised when tripping over a new one. Jury is still out for me.

But it does seem unlikely. Then again - after people have been looking for a month anywhere we find it will be unlikely :)

I was just joking that 1/x wasn't enough for interrogations to be considered representative enough of the sample to display on the charts and that Smears are doomed in that case :) Sorry, that's my head playing out a joke in its head and my typing not doing a good job of spilling it out.

You should be able to hack into the data ports to get behind the front end, where you can network out and pull down more data from other servers while risking setting off the settlement alarms (unless disabled) - and hacking should be visually spotted by NPC's and not tolerated.

But hey, that'd require designing some gameplay instead of "press button"

Kinda like how the shutdown process for powerplants is "press button and wait" whereas it could have been using all those cool dials and knobs to shut the plant down without degrading the regulator - so if you get caught in the act, and have to have a fire fight, or press the button and hide in a corner - it's probably going to degrade the regulator.

You should also be able to fix degrade regulators using some of the assets/goods - but again...

Nevermind eh?

You have a lot of good stuff to say. Not sure why you have to fill it with the negative comments in almost all comments you make though. This is all good stuff. Consitutionally no better when it included the stuff I just edited out.

Not having a go, just making an observation (I'm guilty of the same myself sometimes! Definitely when it comes to Horizons Engineering...)

I'm just a bit peeved that the one expansion since I bought the expansion pass seems to have some quite questionable design decisions, mostly around linkage to the main game.

I will try harder.

I will try to sprinkle less negative into future constructive criticisms.

There is some really nice gameplay in the surface settlements, it would be so great if there were multiple ways to do one of the various things you can do - being able to log into the base defences, instead of turn them on an off for instance - so you could neural link into the turrets, or set them to attack certain things, especially if you could power them up when at conflict zones (along with anti ship shield defences you could power on as well for bonus points)

Skimmer control computers (there are skimmer control data links in SRV gameplay stuff, chuck them into the odyssey settlements too!) where you can again neural link into individual skimmers, or set them to attack things (with all the risks regarding setting off the alarms that would come with that) would be great.

If the NPC's could use above said shields if you try to nuke them from orbit for instance, that would be amazing - even the scavengers----

The NPC scavenger detects a ship attack - and pelts into the power building, shortly after the power in the base comes online, then one of the turrets starts firing on you - then another scav managed to get into the CMD building, and then anti ship shields come up, thwarting your future missile salvos somewhat (until you blast them down with rail gun fire)

Being able to overload the suit recharge sockets - to temporarily knock out power to the building they are in making it pitch dark for some stealth killing - or to shutdown the locks on those containment units (which have sample in and stuff) so you can manually pry them open instead of waiting.

But mostly - if you could find data such as smear campaigns, by scanning the data ports of megaships, or even by destroying or scanning, or manifest scanning, political ships in space (there are those politician assasinations for instance) and obviously other data types - but this thread is about smear campaigns...

Not seeing Tactical Plans and Settlement Assault Plans (nor SDP for what is worth) - these should come from Security Port too, right?

Not seen any Tactical Plans from ports in bases, nor SDP. SAPs are indeed from Security so far (I only have 1 recorded)

Ouch... so i should start looking for a Maverick with quieter footsteps since this seems to be quite out of reach - both in terms of engineering and materials, although i do have 4 Tactical Plans and 7 SAPs but no idea where from. Could be missions tho since i rarely hit settlements with CMD buildings and Security Ports

Yes. In addition I've seen this drops from data ports in some OPR rooms in CMD buildings. I haven't checked the data port type.
