State of the Game

sorry I'm distracted by this awesome mining mechanic in elite.

i travel to rock. i shoot robots at rock to tell me what's in rock. i find out rock has lots of worthless things in it. i travel to another rock. i shoot robot at that rock. it has a bit of something i can trade for infinitely available credits to buy ships and ship parts and upkeep. so i shoot the rock for about 3 minutes and send robots out to collect the bits (some inevitable die)... then i go to another rock because this one is unexplainably unable to be mined further.

I'm surprised this isn't an e sport yet. are we sure the koreans aren't training professionally in dorms for this... making it unfair to normal players?

i can barely keep up with the forum so i apologize.

You should stick the the rocks that you can blow up, but which will later have magically reformed so you can blow them up again.

that involves trucking around doing nothing for even longer periods of time or just doing it opportunistically while laser mining.

plus.,, I'm getting the same thing either way, credits.

plus I'm loving the game struggling and failing to do 90fps just watching roids spin. I'm not sure i have the 2000 dollar video card hardware to handle blowing one up without it looking like a stuttering joke

To be fair, core mining is relatively fun.
OFC, it pays little compared to the boring one "lick a roid". But that's elite, so it's to be expected.
I enjoyed SSD mining when it was the only way to mine reasonable amounts of Tritium.

Well, maybe not SSD mining itself, but it felt good to show this gameplay to all commanders who got stuck in the Void with their FCs and were simply too bad pilots to perfectly time some pretty quickly scrolling minigame while circling around rotating rock on fa/off to keep your nose pointed at Tritium deposit.

I never again had so much Shadenfreude in ED, since then.

After the hard cider talk earlier I decided to run out and grab some. I'm a fan of ACE cider and they had a new flavor I've never tried before - Guava.

OMG it's SO GOOD.

if you have to spend 10min to half an hour (or more if you are having to hunt rings in New systems) finding cores you actually need... the fact that it is more engaging than shooting a laser at a rock or requires more piloting skills is not really relevant. especially when complete, you still have to do that again like two dozen times for just a couple jumps of fuel or a few million credits.

so many better ways that mechanic could have been leveraged... but instead you get nothing that can't be more conveniently gotten in a less interactive way. stupid.

Sometimes I do feel that the goal is to waste as much of your time as possible in between the parts fo the game that are actually fun.

Also, this thread is 10x better now that I've got a drink

Well, cores are too random for me.
Sometimes I get a few in a row, sometimes I can't find any non-cheap one for zillion minutes.
SSDs are easier to find, but it's the same problem as with cores - on average you won't earn more credits/hour then in some laser mined commodity overlapping hotspots.
And there is more sweating in the process.
