Space Legs: Completely Missed the Point

The point is that Mass Effect is literally better than Elite in every way, except the ability to fly a space ship and do shape ship things where you want around the galaxy.

It's not even in the same league when you get out of the ship. It's so bad that I don't even do it.
And we reached the Godwin point of ED forums already. Surprised it was not NMS.

TBH, the FPS part of Odyssey is jokingly bad compared to pretty much any FPS shooter from the past 10years, but it's thankfully not the only thing there is in ED.

Why are you telling me to go play Mass Effect when you think it's so much better than Elite?

I'm not the one saying EDO isn't space legs. I mean, you're right. EDO isn't space legs and no one called it that either. I'm enjoying it. I've never played Mass Effect. I'm sure it's wonderful.

So, off you go to play mass effect, chap. If you don't want to and prefer to play space ships, well... You're in the right place! Enjoy!

Because it's one example of many, and it illustrates the hubris of the dev team trying to graft an entirely different genre onto a game that was made popular for entirely different gameplay and entirely different reasons.

And they did it in a way that makes Horizons obsolete/maintenance mode once the console version drops since it's an entirely separate client with separate players.

To be fair, I think there's some potential for decent game play from Eva. Not enough for an entire expansion though.

Definitely not enough to satisfy "beating mass effect" by the ops definition anyway.

If Odyssey's content had just been Eva, my guess is the reception would have made the current situation seem like a tea party.

Did anyone ever play Alpha Protocol? I LOVED that game - but it was VERY scrappy. It is possible for a game to be greater than the sum of its parts - so I do get what people are saying when they talk about enjoying Odyssey. It doesn't have to be the greatest FPS.

However, when I think about everything that (universally panned) game had in it when compared to Odyssey... oh, that's not a flattering comparison at all...

I don't even think Odyssey qualifies as an expansion.

It's a DLC pack that doesn't affect the main game in any way. Like the arcades in Yakuza games.

Introducing, Elite Dangerous: Space Legs. Dazzling new game play, such as floating in space, looking at the outside of your ship, floating in space, exploring intriguing points of interest in a space suit whilst floating, floating in space, relogging points of interest in space.

Two years of development for floating in a suit instead of a ship.

Oh and space pony cats.

Enjoy.

Good grief. Does anyone have conversations any more?

Wow, another thread in which it is asserted that literally nobody wanted to walk on planets. Yeah, that’s plausible.
Walking on planets is implied by EVAs. "Space legs" literally implies doing it IN SPACE. Not on the surface of a planet, which is defacto part of "legs".

It's the terrible FPS graft/grift being heralded as a major expansion that is at issue here, without any space legs gameplay or features off surface.
