Black screen when exiting the game, anyone else get this?

Happens to me more times than it actually going back to desktop.
Then I just hit my windows key, to get back to desktop (game still not closed), open Task Manager & kill the game from that!

Frankly, if this is the only issue that I repeatedly get with Odyssey............I can live with it!!

Unfortunately it's far from the only issue, it's merely the icing on the cake.

Been getting this pretty much constantly now since last week, was more intermittent before that.

Well it's only issue issue that I continually notice when playing Odyssey daily on my mediocre laptop;)

Lucky you. I come across plenty bugs, glitches, performance issues, busted renderers, light without lightsources (or vice versa), textures not loading correctly or with delay, random fps drops for no apparent reason, dodgy planet terrain generation, invisible rocks, broken paintjobs, audio bugs left right and centre (engine going silent when music plays upon station approach etc.), my Pioneer skin has gone AWOL for 2 out of my 3 suits, and so on and so forth, every single time I log in.

I still do log in, sometimes I even have fun when the stars (which are at least a bit more visible again) align, but it does require some effort to look beyond all those problems. And I'm only describing the technical issues here, don't get me started on some of the design decisions. I completely refurbished my fleet yesterday, in order to do this without rage-uninstalling I had to boot up Horizons (despite updates to the outfitting UI it's still a mess).

But yeah, it's probably just me and my unrealistic expectations.

EDO is a clusterfudge of issues right now. I just hope FD know what they are doing for the console release because thats when a lot of people will draw the line and the excuses stop.

When i exit the game to desktop my computer monitor goes black (its still on) and just stays blank black until i do a control alt del and force elite to shut down. It happens about 50 percent of the time i close the game. Does anyone else have this happen? Anyone know if its a known issue to be fixed? Thanks. just hoping its not just me.
Yes, it happens sometimes with Odyssey, never happened before with Horizons

I would say that's true.

Not that I'm knocking Frontier or the team, but my expectations have been low for a number of years now. Yes, I enjoy the game & play it a lot, but there's stuff in ED & EDO that I won't touch, just personal choice.
Then along with my mediocre laptop, which IS likely to be replaced soon, I don't expect any stupidly high FPS rates & the game will slow to a crawl at times for a second or two.....I'm fortunate that the game actually loads up, nevermind run!

So really, each person's expectations will vary greatly depending on each cmdr's situation.

But the only thing that 'bugs' me is the time it takes to shut the game down by task killing.....can't be bad!

Sure is - and what worries me most is every patch introduces new issues. What will they have in store for us with patch 5 in two weeks time (both in terms of fixes and new bugs)? Last bug fixing patch for quite a while, right?

I could pull my hair out but there's light at the end of the tunnel for me, in the form of X4 (will be purchased over the weekend) - so if EDO patch 5 doesn't deliver (which I doubt it will), I have a plan B at least. And while you could argue that FDev already got my money and they don't need to care what I think, I'm also not buying any Arx for their ridiculously overpriced EDO cosmetics, which seem to be the one area that suffer the least issues. Go figure.

I'm still not sure whether we'll get a console release - and even if we do... looking at the sheer number of patches/hotfixes over the past weeks, and what they actually achieved - probably best to not expect any miracles. And with MS and Sony having much more stringent requirements in terms of quality (see what happened to CP2077) FDev got their work cut out.

I mean, what can I say - with lenient attitudes towards the game as shown in your post EDO is probably the game that its player base deserves.

This will be a lingering fear for FD I think, because no-one wants to be a follow on to C 2077, mainly as the press can use it to justify C 2077s problems and the industry at large.

Which is why I think the next few months will indeed be a all hands on deck for consoles with the PC version that is being sold at full fat price right now, being left by the wayside, with its customers merely being able to hope of getting some scraps in the form of performance tweaks as a result of the consoles release. At this stage I can't even get excited about new vehicles (be that SRVs or ships) since EDO doesn't really bring any new gameplay loops to the table where they could be used.

Yes, its a double trap really. PC players (esp. low spec guys like me) will wait and slowly stew and when the PS4 pops up will wonder if stuff was held back. If it was, I'll feel, well, exploited a bit (my goodwill). If nothing extra is coming (say ships or SRVs) I'll be thinking- is this it?

Or with the Specification that my current Laptop has, it's not gonna make a silk purse from a sow's ear;).....so Yes, I'm have a more lenient attitude.

BTW, bought X4 on release.....played for a month, with continual crashes to desktop........not touched it since - people say Odyssey is bad🤷‍♂️
