Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Just rewatched the Chris and daughter play SC clip again, and caught what CR says at the end.

"ok, you glitched"

So, let me get this right. They could have to taken as many clips as they wanted until they got one where no bugs happened, yet they chose one where the daughter experienced a bug. How bad was SC behaving that day that they settled for that? How many takes had they already tried?!

Also "you glitched". Not the game has a problem, its clearly the daughter's fault.

More and more assets to re-use in other systems.
With the ones existing in Stanton, Pyro and SQ42, they should have a huge bank of assets/structures for Turbulent !
I wonder also if they have all ships in their derelict version.
This is a nice sentiment, because in general it is true - many assets, like props, textures or sounds, can be reused. A room even, maybe. But we wouldn't want too many similarities between locations, like in that other game with billions of identical star systems, would we? On the other hand, the ecumenopolis of ArcCorp, the mother of procedural asset reuse, still has only one landing zone. It has to be really crowded, that single space port in a planet-spanning city.

You're so chipper Ant ;)

Scenario: 'Networking seemingly in a mess, and possibly being handed on to third party to fix'
Ant: 'When it gets fixed it there'll be so much content waiting for us!'

Oh, apparently Cloud City isn't even finished yet! Its still Tier 0. LOL.

Taken them as long to make as a AAA game (allegedly) and its still not finished!

Sarsa from SA lists "a hospital, a whale watching tour, and another in-game ship store"

Woo hoo! Another in-game ship store! And a whale watching tour!

People complain when games are rushed, people complain when they are not. I play SC at least weekly, always without fail have a blast. Can’t even get my friend back into ED since getting him a SC account.

And?

We have people here like LA repeatedly saying how much they enjoy the game. Cool.

Its not about being rushed, its about how they are going to take an eternity to deliver on their promises. They initially promised the BDSSE in 2-3 years, they still don't have a game with the content they promised all those years ago and its been 9 years.

In short, this quote from CIG basically just highlights how much more work CIG have to do before it will be in a releasable state.

Kudos on enjoying SC. If you and your friend are not playing ED, also fine. I'm also not playing ED at the moment. Those two things are not connected though. FD have dropped the ball with Odyssey. CIG have been dropping the ball for 9 years and are showing no signs of ever picking it up.

And nothing. I simply passed a view on a public forum that the reality is for most people that regularly play SC, we have a blast and a label of "complete" really doesn't mean anything; SC isn't except from criticism but I have as much fun playing it as I do any "complete" game and frankly find it far easier to play in groups (a SHARE button to share and complete missions together FDev, ground breaking) than ED and as far as multicrew goes SC is frankly more stable and dependable than ED.

Oh yay, a voice of the majority.

I'm always keen to hear how everyone's feeling :)

Here's the thing though bud. It's great that you're having a blast. More power to you. Genuinely.

But that doesn't change the fact that CIG have sold a lot more than they've delivered, missed a mahooosive number of deadlines for dangled features along the way, and powered it all via spangly macro purchases. (Which have probably exacerbated the same, via their periodic scope creep). 'Not rushed' doesn't really cover it. 'Oversold' just about might ;).

Some us think these aspects border on the properly naughty, and are worth keeping track off. Agony's post was poking fun at some of those very issues.

So enjoy the alpha as it stands, that is absolutely cool. But don't expect 'not rushed' to stand up as a broader defence around this way. Or for your personal hijinks to outweigh those broader concerns.

If it's alright by you a bunch of us will continue to buzz around the honey pot, warning anyone new that it ain't all sweetness, and laughing at some sticky situations along the way too. Because CIG seems to have provided a banquet on that front.

Plus it's fun ;)

In that case it would have been better not to quote my post if you didnt want to connect your statement with mine ;)

The pool of assets will not be infinite for sure. But when you travel Stanton and visit all places and missions, the actual pool of SC is HUGE and bigger than a lot of released AAA games. And it's without counting what they already have for SQ42 and Pyro. What they have is largely sufficient if they decide to stop now to create more assets.

And if you look at how they create their city, you have one specific biome for each one. If CIG stick to one pack of asset by biome, there is less and less biome to create. Same for outposts, they have one pack of assets for them and another one is coming. And the first pack is really big. Same for stations, the actual pack of assets is really big.

Ah yes, the game Star Citizen, know for its ease of getting friends and org mates together quickly and without issue.
Better than not beeing able at all to play with your friends no ?
And when have you played the alpha the last time with your friends ? Because playing with friends is not really difficult atm if you now a little the alpha and it's common bugs.

I didn't say the statement wasn't connected to yours, you're just not a particularly nice person to converse with so I treated your post with the contempt you treated mine.

er okay, I won't. Glad that was nice and simple to clear up.

Open menu, join group of friends from menu without even needing to enter the game, leader clicks Persistent World and the game starts for all members. Someone picks a mission, clicks share and we all get part of the reward.

I'm not sure how much easier that needs to be. I do it weekly without fail, maybe if someone has logged on before anyone else and are in a full instance they'd maybe need to log out first.

Should I detail in the same way our groups attempts to get multicrew and mission sharing working in ED without someone being left behind on the planet when FSD never completes for them?

I try and play SC every patch, because people always go "have you played it recently?!?"

It's always the same. Grouping is a nightmare, the control scheme is a nightmare, crashes are frequent, framerate is atrocious, desync is terrible, bugs are everywhere; it's been four years since I was told "I need to play it to critique it" and it's still just as bad as it was back then.

LinusTechTips had about the same grouping experience as I do -- spend an hour (or more) trying to get together, fighting crashes or server issues, just so you can do a mission where hopefully things don't fall apart and you have spend yet another hour or so meeting up in game.

Do you really want to know why you're getting less 30ks? It's because no one is playing it besides a handful of people. At the start of every patch disconnects/desyncs/servers are bad because everyone logs on to see if anything is better (hint: it's not). Then the concurrent playerbase falls off a cliff waiting for the next patch to fix everything.

Its been this way for half a decade.
