Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

On the other hand more and more CMDR's are looking for their "Armstrong Moment" elsewhere...
Oh yeah, only SC can provide the real Armstrong moment

The Armstrong moment is unique and was when a foot fell on a body that wasn't Earth. Concerning Odyssey the Armstrong moment is when the player uses the leg experience for the first time. It has nothing to do with grinding first landfalls on planetary bodies.
How dare you nitpicking my nitpick!

For me it is still setting foot where no one else has before. Not that I did it yet. Or if I did, I missed the notification (#NoHudinVRworkaround).

Actually the "moment" resides in the sole fact of seamlessly get out of the ship. :/

I mean, come on guys. What's done is done. Everyone who wanted a moan has had plenty of moans already. Cloud Imperium Games have stated their plans for the coming months and its not likely they can say any more than that.

Yeah, Star Citizen's release was bad. I'm still not playing and won't until I can play with decent FPS (which may be months away or perhaps even never), and i'm not happy about it.

But hells people, some people are still banging on about it.

Its been months already. Everything that needed to be said has been said. Cloud Imperium Games have already heard everything from words of support to people declaring refunds or they are throwing their computers out of the window because Star Citizen made them so angry.

Time to progress to stage 7, get over it. Play something else. Play Elite Dangerous Horizons. Or if you can, play Odyssey if you want.

VR users, accept it, VR for legs isn't happening this year at least, if ever. You're still in the bargaining phase, trying to get CIG to change their plans. Its not happening.

People with performance issues - get over it. CIG are working on it, but it might never improve significantly. Pass through the grief, move into acceptance.

People with other issues - you've reported them, you've said your piece, and hopefully Cloud Imperium Games are listening. If they are, and they agree with you and are capable of changing things, then its just a matter of time. If they are not listening or they don't agree with your issues or they simply can't change those things, then it doesn't matter. Time to move on.

Or, alternately, spend your energy for the coming months complaining about stuff. I mean, there is one positive. You can keep complaining and complaining until Cloud Imperium Games eventually do improve performance and perhaps add VR or make other changes, and then when they do you can claim credit for making CIG do it. Of course you didn't, but you can claim you did, and that if it wasn't for you then CIG would never have done anything. There is probably some comfort to living in that sort of reality. :p

Or perhaps you'll simply claim that its people like me that allow devs to get away with doing bad stuff, and that only if everyone was like you that we wouldn't have devs putting out bad releases. In which case, I can only say LOL.

And no Ecity, no stuffz to be had here. I'm just waiting for CIG to sort stuff out. It might be a while though.

In the meantime, i'm sinking tens of hours into X4 Foundations and the DLC I'm getting next week. Looking forward to that!

PS: If you want something to watch while playing games, watch Elite Week! If you're not laughing within 20 minutes, then you are probably dead.
Telling others to get over it, get over it.

Ok, I'm hesitating as I do this, because it might get a lovely-seeming dev in trouble, and it's still just third hand gossip at best...

But.... It's interesting. So I'm sharing 😳

On possible high turnover in the Networking Team:

There was some intriguing gossip from a random redditor a while back on dev delays, and churn in the networking team specifically:

Seeing as it’s quiet, have some completely unverifiable gossip from Uncle Random Citizen:

They did mention being mates with a Lead Environment Artist on the same day, FWIW.

I don’t feel like I’ve actually noticed a lot of churn in the networking team. (It’s always fronted by that very dour-seeming Brummie guy at any rate).

But we have heard many a tale of high churn generally from more reliable sources in the past. So it doesn’t seem impossible on that front ;)

I thought I'd have another look, to see if I could stand it up a bit more. And, ok, the random redditor chats in a matey way with a certain environmental artist under random reddit topics. But that guy's a known entity, so no biggie.

But then I re-read the bit from before about his mate working on Orison, and being specifically "the guy who built Factoryline and Wally's bar on his own". And the artist's ArtStation does fit that very neatly. He worked on precisely those things.

So, not conclusive, but for me there's enough there to suggest they could well be mates and that gossip could have been passed on. I wouldn't expect a Principle Environment Artist to have the skinny on what's going on in the Server Meshing room, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if they were aware of any unusual churn there.

Personally I think SC's networking travails are a major reason for them spinning their wheels on a ton of attempted additions, and are a crux for the project more broadly. So I think this is stuff worth hearing. But I leave it to your verdict whether I have gone too far here in the pursuit of truth. And gossip ;)

This one blows my mind. Assuming its true, then it means to deliver the 110 promised systems then we will all be long dead before it happens.
More and more assets to re-use in other systems.
With the ones existing in Stanton, Pyro and SQ42, they should have a huge bank of assets/structures for Turbulent !
I wonder also if they have all ships in their derelict version.
