Sally did respond in the other thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-ranks-retroactive.578690/page-9#post-9345124 the TLDR is "Was busy, now asking for you guys"
What I'm most bothered about is that people who allegedly aren't bothered at all about the new ranks are so bothered about others being bothered.I don't understand why people aren't bothered about it . The ranking system was in the Lore , the history of the game . The name says it all "Elite " . It was bragging rights really in Inara I'm top 4.5% of the pilots possibly more due to my CQC ranking . Yes trade and exploration Elites are too easy but thats a new development .
It all depends on how you see Elite , some are meh others aren't . I am in the latter ( if you hadn't guessed)
Again the silence from Frontier is deafening . @sallymorganmoore @Arthur Tolmie @David Braben @Zac Cocken @Bruce G
Now that answer bothers me because you are bothered. What I'm most bothered about is that people who allegedly aren't bothered at all about the new ranks are so bothers about others being bothered.
Oh bother...
ok...I disagree with just about everything you've written on this thread but it's all good...we don't have to agree on everything to get along on these boardsAgain, that's what I'm saying. You aren't supposed to bother with it. It's just a thing that's there to recognize those who've been around. It isn't a thing you do, it's a thing that happens. So I don't understand why anybody is bothered by it. Those who don't care about the ranks definitely shouldn't care that there are new ones. And those who think "Elite should mean something" should actually like that there is a way to be "elite" again. I mean, I've been playing for just a couple months and I've already got an Elite rank. Am I really on the same level as those who've had Elite for years? Look at the Inara boards and there are more than 100,000 "Elite" players. That doesn't seem very "elite" to me. If people really want the rank to mean something then it has to be somewhat exclusive. That means either adding new ranks or diminishing existing ranks. I can't even imagine the outcry if they had taken away Elite ranks.
It hasn't diminished anything though. Great, you're elite... so is half the playerbase. 50% isn't elite.I don't understand why people aren't bothered about it . The ranking system was in the Lore , the history of the game . The name says it all "Elite " . It was bragging rights really in Inara I'm top 4.5% of the pilots possibly more due to my CQC ranking . The rankings have to change, at least trade and exploration do. They're too easy as is. The only reason I don't have elite in exploration is because I've put literally zero effort into the rank yet.Why move the goalposts ? Why not make the Elite ranking harder instead of easier as they have done ?
It's something I'm passionate about in this game .
I understand that your idea of Elite is totally different to my idea of it .
I'm a grumpy old old git who has played the game for a long ole time and I really dislike the elite ranking change and the continued silence from Fdev and the CM's .
It wouldn't apply to naval ranks, those aren't relative. You can retire from the navy and still be whatever rank you were. But you can't retire from combat, exploration, or even trade and still be considered elite. "Elite" is someone at the top of their game, not a has-been. "Elite" literally means the best of the bunch. How can you be the best at something you aren't actively doing? If that means the title is reserved only for people willing and able to spend every day in-game doing whatever, so be it. I mean, isn't that what "elite" should mean? There's nothing elite about a title that even the most casual player can eventually obtain and keep with zero effort.Yes, a good way to finally drive away players would be to take away their progress not only in a passive way, but proactively by means of demoting them from time to time. You were triple elite king admiral? Tough luck you were away for 3 weeks on holidays, now you are a mostly harmless recruit outsider. Why not just clear all saves every 2 month or so, that would probably also fit FDev's current implementation style better.
I guess this is the idea: restrict the "elite" ranking to those who play 24/7 and have no life. Making the game your job, just to keep that "rank". Essentially, making everything a big long community goal with endless tiers, where only the top 10 CMDRs are considered "elite". Bad idea in my book, as it would make the rankings completely pointless to most players, since they would never reach it, anyway, not see much progress, and in the end can't even judge other CMDRs by it (that guy you came across with "harmless" might actually know more about combat than you, he was just on holidays recently). So for an example someone who plays 2 hrs a week for 5 years will never reach it but someone who plays 10 hrs a week for 1 year can ?
Reaching Elite has meaning.Looking at Horizons vs. Odyssey, it looks like an Odyssey newcomer can reach "ELITE +" , whereas far more seasoned Horizons Commanders are "stuck" with the classic Ranks.
Essentially it means it becomes impossible to figure out the "who is who" in the Galaxy, since there's comparably new Odyssey CMDRs already being ranked far higher than even the most seasoned Horizons CMDRs.
It doesn't make any sense the way it was done.
I can only assume there were a few goals that these "Lvl 50 Character" slots were supposed to achieve :
- "buy Odyssey and you can become cooler than the Horizons plebes"
- "we don't want recognition for the experienced old Generation of Players who've been with ELITE since many years and make them indistinguishable from average Players"
Brings back memories of an old Engineering wisdom :

Reaching Elite doesn't really have a meaning. You ground for a prolonged time. And it's good like that. Would be a shame if they goalpost more content behind grindwalls.Reaching Elite has meaning.
Reaching Elite II doesn't have any. Even Elite V is something I don't care about.
