Well, i'm not.
But i'd rather have a lack of confirmation now, than a confirmation for 2023...
You seem to prefer the later.
I'd prefer sooner.

Wow...FD have really boxed themselves into a corner.
Horrendous Odyssey launch on PC, no VR support for Odyssey, no next gen console plans for Odyssey. I know some of this has been announced a while ago but the confirmation of these facts does not paint a rosy picture.
I'm not suggesting DOOOOM, but right now it wouldn't surprise me if FD decide to pull the plug on ED. Optimise Odyssey, fix the bugs, release on last gen consoles and release whatever additional content they had planned and then leave it on 'end of life' maintenance mode until the community stop playing. Probably adds up to 1 more year of active dev support for ED.
They have more valuable franchises that are far less complex to develop, JWE and JWE2, Planet Zoo and in 2023, F1 and a Warhammer game. Purely from a finance and resource point of view, I'd seriously question the long term position of ED.
Just conjecture and I hope I'm wrong...
Given the present circumstances and the lack of further existing game development for old gen consoles......WOW Just WOW…..
Odyssey not coming to newest gen Consoles
No ship interiors
No more VR Development.
Is Frontier giving up on Elite Dangerous
I wouldn’t be surprised if Frontier announced Odyssey not coming to any console
I'd prefer sooner.
I just know the info from DBs second post. There he stated explicits that it's two servers now as the reason for the problem with the fleet carriers.
Add to that that there is still no ingame coms between Horizon and Odyssey (please correct if wrong) i would bet it's still the case.
Thanks, then Davids message was really a bit misleading

Maybe, but he didn't write it that way:I think DB was referring to the "one galaxy, two views" Dav Stott is describing.
That's what I meant with "misleading". I give them the benefit of the doubt no problem. As you probably know, we split Horizons and Odyssey into two sets of servers – with the plan to keep it that way until we ship Odyssey on console
You sure do.
And i'm also sure if they could launch EDO on consoles on September 1st, along with a native version for PS5 and XB Series, the news would be all over the place.
But since they really have no launch date, not even for Consoles launch except for a generic Autumn release... they "can neither confirm nor deny"
Maybe it's time to start on a fresh game, they learned a lot, and can reuse many of the assets, however the game really need to be rewritten due to all the weird stuff going on.I thought that young Arthur mentioned the reason; it has to run on old gen consoles because it's a DLC for a current game on said old console. Could it be a legal issue?
Also, why not develop an enhanced version in parallel? Resources and lack thereof?
There are no plans to release natively on the current PS5/XSX-S consoles.
There may be some functionality issues right now, but as I believe, the PC release is currently live to give FDev time to work these things out for consoles. There is no possible way senior leadership did not know Odyssey was not in a full release state when they released it. Investor pressure or not, can anyone conclusively declare that there was no possible way for FDev to delay the release because of investor declarations? And yes, I strongly believe console is their future platform of choice. I believe FDev see the console market as a massive source of revenue,

Tile based design hasn't been a Windows feature since 2015, but is still currently a console design feature... every console out right now uses this as their primary UI design... so, how is this not tailored for the current design trend in consoles?
Frontier's other IPs - including those recently announced like JW2 - are releasing native current-gen versions. It could be taken as evidence that we're reaching the end of development.
That was the last years message.
The latest message from Zac does not state that. It's more like a Glomar response
I'm sorry, I don't have a blurry stuttering mess. The view out of a dirty window is fine, until it's cleaned and you realise how bad it was. The fidelity of 4K Vs the 1080p version of the game is a night and day difference. Add to the the "Quality" Display settings being broken (missing/flickering shadows as an example) and what you have is a blurry, stuttering mess that doesn't live up to current standards.

"... single galaxy, with a single save game... one data base state... one galaxy, two views..."
Of course this could have been phrased that way to convey the information better, but it is still no contradiction to DB's "two sets of servers" statement. You can have distributed databases that - while presenting one single state - still hold the data on many servers, with the obvious need to sync data. Depending on the cloud solution they are running, such a setup would cost more than a single centralized database.
Of course.Frontier have just confirmed in the PlayStation forum - after a year of speculation - that they have no plans to bring Odyssey natively to the PS5 or XBox Series X/S. Essentially this means they're not willing to invest any effort in current-gen architecture for the game on console and are only targeting the 8-year old PS4 and Xbox One.
The game will run on the current-gen consoles, but only in backwards compatibility mode, meaning any improvements available are limited to an unlocked frame rate and improved SSD R/W times. For example, playing Elite or Odyssey on the PS5 will offer a maximum resolution of 1080p.
The lack of investment in current architecture sends a clear message that Frontier do not view the console market as a worthwhile investment, outside of any sales they might pick up via existing players on the 8-year old PS4 and Xbox.
Why then, do we think they are delaying improvements to the PC version of Odyssey for the console release, when the console version of the game has just had it's death-knell sounded?
RIP Elite on console. You were always the unloved step-child.
I'm sorry, I don't have a blurry stuttering mess.
Of course.
If you consider the state of the game, it will be fine to run on older hardware.
I got decent FPS on my 1070, people with 2070/80 or 3070/80 have issues. Thus EDO is made for old hardware. PS4 and the Xbone are "old hardware", thus it will run.
Fixing this for the new hardware is... a different kettle of fish.
