Uninstalling Odyssey

Horizons is no longer a DLC since I think October last year. It was rolled into the base game.
I know and I quit playing for almost a year because I could not stand how dated it looked the more I play edo I never want to see edh again even with the bugs I cant stop playing now and for the first time in years I actually enjoy landing on planets

Maybe that was the issue. You didn't play when it was fixed.

yep I went through that and put up with the result and lost faith last year that they ever would do a retexture of the game and stopped playing because I hatted how the planets looked and how in tourist high tech stations the trees look. like they took the model and texture from sim city 4 but I did love flying the going to the witch head and all the other colorful places in the sky box.

Well, don't look at the trees in odyssey then ;)

I know they are the same as are the windows on the flight deck but a lot of other things have changed for the better bugs and all my list is much smaller now of things I disliked and now I fly twice as much as before

This is actually a question - can Odyssey be easily uninstalled from Horizons, returning Horizons to it's pre-Odyssey condition? In my case, I have just Horizons right now, and it runs fine and seems to be exempt from most of the patches and hotfixes needing to be downloaded for Odyssey. My thinking with Odyssey is that it's better to wait for a month or two until the majority of patches (some of which will be fixes to previous patches) are finished and part of the core download. But what if I were to download Odyssey today, just to try it, and then uninstall it until it's fixed? In theory this means l could resume playing Horizons like I can now, without constant hotfixes and patches being forced on me, and if my experience with other games applies to Odyssey, downloading it fresh with all the fixes "built in" would result in a more stable build than a dozen patches done "on the fly" on my system.

Has anyone taken this approach? I know plenty people have said, "I'm going back to Horizons until Odyssey is fixed," but does Odyssey continue to live on your computer, or did you remove it in order to avoid endless patch downloads and other side-effects?

A related question is, how separate is Odyssey from Horizons? For example, does it have its own keybind and graphics config file that needs to be backed up before uninstalling, or are these shared with Horizons, and if the latter, how would uninstalling Odyssey affect Horizons?

Oh, and I assume if I were to download Odyssey today, it would come pre-patched up to this point, correct?
Jusy uninstall the whole game, everything and install Horizon only.

Now whether I take this approach or not will depend on just how playable ED is on my own computer. If I'm getting 20 fps everywhere, it's either going on the back-burner or getting uninstalled. However, I tempted to roll the dice to see if I might be one of the lucky ones who can at least get 30 fps as worst-case scenario.

IIRC you got a laptop similar to mine. I7-9750h, GTX1660TI, 16gb ram...
If so, you'll get like 30+ in heavier parts like Concourse, CZ and certain settlements (and more in other parts.) - that is on Ultra with Shadows on high and Blur off, 1080p ofc.

As long as the Odyssey's tech is not injected into Horizon, yes.
Thanks, I think I'll wait to see what improvements are made to Odyssey before I buy it - better to be able to play and not have to worry about performance issues.
Frontier have had plenty of my money, this time I will wait till they make it worthy of my parting with more.

I tried to uninstall Odyssey, but my PC triggered an alarm and a FD hit squad dropped down in my garden the next minute.

I was going to hold them at bay by throwing household items at them from the roof, but then they started lobbing grenades at me.

It's impossible. Once you install it, it's on your drive forever.

You can do that. For now. Come console release, however the ODY client will replace the Horizons client. You will play a downgraded version of ODY without the footie pewpew and tenuous planets but the rest will be the same.

@Old Duck

I have Horizons installed from the Frontier store. When the launcher presented Odyssey (which was greyed out) and I installed from there, It created it's own separate directory called "X:\Your Installation\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64".

Since Odyssey has no uninstaller per say, I just deleted the "elite-dangerous-odyssey-64" directory from my drive and the elite launcher again showed it as "greyed-out" as if it were not installed. My Horizons bindings were not affected, nor were the graphics config files, i.e. "Your mod".
