What were they thinking?

Let's see. Oke first step: watch teh Star Citizen trailer.

Done? Oke, let's move on shall we. What did we see? Oke first thing what Horizons didn't have but Star Citizen does, on foot exploration of planets. Is this in Odyssey now? Check

Now at around 36 secons, what did you see? Is that walking in stations and doing a lot of stuff from there? Well yes! Was this in Horizons? No. Is this in Odyssey now?
Check

Next thing they show you. Mercenary/bounty hunting missions (and that shooting bit after "become an outlaw"). That part also makes you think about Odyssey doesn't it? So was that in Horizons? No. Is that in Odyssey?
Check

Starting to see a patern here? I don't know here guys/girls/non-binaries but doesn't it seem suspicious? It's almost like they tried to compete with Star Citizen instead of working on what the community wants and what makes Elite Dangerous stand out. Kinda suspicious if you ask me.

The game isn't dying.

Steam numbers have been solid for years. Yes they fluctuate, no they aren't showing a upward or downward trend.

Odyssey is about to launch on consol, thats another cash injection.

You didn't want on foot gameplay? Thats cool. I did. I'm having a blast with it. Game that was at risk of getting stale is now a riot of fun again.

YMMV
Many people wanted foot gameplay. Just not in the form of a bottom of the barrel FPS and engineering junk collector.
As usual, the possibilities were endless and they did the bare minimum, pushed it out in Alpha state and charges £40 for it.

Yes but that 40 is the gift that keeps on giving. Just think of all the updates you get for the next year at no extra charge!

It's much simpler. Both game had the same plan originally (IE space sim with many planets to explore, played from the individual to the ship). But ED went for an "early access" kind of thing with piecemeal content added to a playable game.
SC went for the traditional way of making game (alpha->beta->release). And launch it once it's feature complete.

Eventually, that mean there will be some similarities. But I don't think anybody is copying anybody else.

Am I wrong? Who was asking for this? Any of you?
No, you are not wrong. Some people asked for space legs. Many more wanted it just because the great David said they'd get it some day.

I asked for it. I am sorry.
But nobody spoke up against my request.
I most certainly spoke up against your request. I've said multiple times over the 2 years I've played ED Horizons and frequented these forums that I had zero interested in space legs and more specifically FPS.

I'm glad I've not chucked my 40 bucks at FDev.
I'm sad that I'm now enjoying my final weeks of Horizons.

Lol,

What you have here is a string of adjectives sans content.

Nothing else anywhere does what elite does. Now it does more than it did. You are welcome to pay, or not. The price of Odyssey compares with one or maybe two dinners out. Its not even half a AAA title.

So my read on complaints like this is that your expectations haven't kept pace with inflation or the general market.

Either that or you just haven't played it and are repeating mindless Yammiks propaganda.

I didn't really ask for it mate if I am honest, I was just being facetious ;)

As it happens, I'm not all that interested in the FPS thing at all - planets and the other stuff sure, but the FPS I couldn't give two polished poops about.

And I'm not arguing with you in case it comes over that way? You have known me long enough ;)

Stick to Horizon, don't buy Odyssey, just like I do. I'm not interested in FPS component, I'm here for flying spaceships and space exploration. Even with Horizon, I don't play many surface missions with SRV.

I don't touch the FPS either, but the improvement in planets from Horizons to Odyssey is well worth the change.

By "change" do you mean the 40 bucks or the krappy new galaxy and system maps?... ;)

Maybe you should read it again, I said "the improvement in planets", and you deflected straight to galaxy and system map because you can't argue the actual point I posted!

Not to be rude, but I'd like to say this is more personal opinion than fact.

I honestly think we didn't get the planet gen that was shown in the pre alpha. And what we get is a clear downgrade over horizon for some of it.

Overall, and this is not hyperbole, I would have preferred Horizon planet gen over Odyssey current gen. Now, maybe it will get fixed, but I have some doubt it will be completely fixed. Only 2 of the major issues were acknowledged (both as "it's complicated"), and all the other ignored.

I asked for it. I am sorry.
But nobody spoke up against my request.

Even though I asked for it, I'd hoped it would work....

You should look at the graph again. It doesn't stop in 2018. Thats why there is more line to the right of 2018.

I used the all time setting so I could see month to month and year to year trends.
Just FYI, the graph you posted does stop in 2018 or thereabouts. You might want to check your notes?

I just don't understand. Why?

I'm a new player with less than 3 months in the game. Since starting, they've basically killed VR and added a FPS element to the game while failing to fix all of the multiplayer connection bugs which I've learned have been there since wings and crew were released.

Why FPS when there are major bugs from before unfixed? Why, when the instance configurations for so many missions are identical? Why kill VR, when this was supposed to be the VR king of immersive games?

Why FPS when it is not the sort of gameplay that one would think would be what people come to this title for? The few times I tried it I just cringed knowing I could be playing something like The Division 2 that is an infinity better FPS game. For that matter, EDO is like The Division 2 adding a space simulator to that game. Yep...makes no sense at all.

I think ED is in critical condition. I don't see any recovery from this and I was really excited about the game for the month I was playing it before the release of Odyssey. As is, I haven't logged in for over 2 weeks and each new day find me less motivated than the day before to play this title.

It's very difficult to get motivated to advance in a game that is dying. And that makes me very sad. The first month was magical, even with the bugs. How does a company grow so disconnected from its customers?

Am I wrong? Who was asking for this? Any of you?
As a new player you need to be aware of how we consistently hate everything, just a factor to consider 👍
