Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 5

yeah i had hopes (again) on update 5, but even before disembark i had the realization that i'm probably done with odyssey for now, i had 11 fps while going through the mailslot, ELEVEN!! i have never seen such a low fps inside my ship, like ever, and it kept on 11 while my ship was going to the hangar, this is so frustrating at so many levels... and im still getting 11 to 17 fps inside concourses, so, well, hopefully console commanders will have more luck that i have.

And yet i see more random, smaller fixes on the patch note than significant changes on performance, but i guess we will have to wait till console gets their adjustements so i, pc player who bought it way before, can play properly, thankfully console peeps didnt have to deal with this kind of stuff.

Sorry frontier, i tried to enjoy your game(even with its flaws), but it seems you don't want to let me enjoy it, so i'm tired of fighting it, ill try to let it be for a while, erase the memories of promises of working at launch that made me purchase odyssey and hope for a fix in time, which i hope will be in less than 6 months?

I wish a safe flight, commanders. o7

I cant‘t believe it! This is a real shame! Frontier proves that they absolutely don‘t care for players like me who enjoyed this game for many years and played it for thousands of hours. It‘s absolutely disrespectful! Playing this game as I did before is all I‘s like. I really don‘t care for space legs and first person pew pew.
It seems to me that after many years the time has come to say goodbye to this game …

I've actually seen a lot of reports since the update went out saying the VR DSS is in fact working now in-game. I'm still confirming internally but players are certainly finding it useable again at the moment.

Vanilla:

With 3dmigoto: (indoor / outdoor reflection shaders disabled)

Station Concourse (Brett High) FPS: 50-75 / GPU 100% / CPU not that high

Great selection of fixes and improvements from the team! Keep up the awesome hard work ő7
To the Salty complainers... if you can't be constructive stop wasting the communities time by being part of the problem. Go play something else and return when you're in a better frame of mind... or don't....
Negativity breeds Negativity...
All you are doing is venting like children who's favorite toy has been taken away.
Grow up!!

I've been waiting long enough. If it isn't fixed then I'm out. The amount of threads of people asking for FDev to actually sort this mess is not something to just ignore.

"All you are doing is venting like children who's favorite toy has been taken away.
Grow up!!".... Well, no. The reason there has been these patches is because the game is broken. If those people didn't make a fuss then these wouldn't have been addressed as quick as they have been. Odyssey plays like a BETA, if FDev just accepted this then the hate would at least calm. But this is a released DLC, and it doesn't work. I am a "fan boi" (My profile pic is with Dav Stott) for FDev and Elite, but you can't defend this, not at all.

Fixed an issue with autocorrect :ROFLMAO:

It's strange that the most obvious things to fix, the glass shaders and the smear campaign plans, are the things that take them the longest.

Can't see where you're coming from cmdr.

Iv played ED/Horizons for 6 1/2 years & have over 12k hours on the gameclock. Played through 3 laptops & got my 4th last week
Since Odyssey launched Iv been on every day, albeit @ 30fps max & 15-20 in Settlements on my old laptop.
My new i7 16GB with RTX 2060 graphics gives me a solid 60FPS everywhere except when playing a Frontline CZ when it drops to a steady 40FPS, & that's without even going into the graphics option UI!.....
....but like you, I don't enjoy pewpew & would have prefered base building any day to a footy shootout!
However, I'v yet to tear myself away from the on foot stuff, to go back Exploring!

I'd say Frontier care very much about their players.....it's just difficult to please EVERYONE when we're given the Galaxy as a 'sandpit' & told "go play"

Feels like some reboot happened. I was crashing non-stop and suddenly things feel more stable and snappy but my entire list of missions (both complete and ready to turn in and yet to be done) has vanished.

I think the problem was not dealt with by the people who created this system like this. Therefore, all the changes were achieved not by reworking the real code, but by small additions like "lower the value of this variable", "add a couple of light sources to the model", "increase the influence of this variable, and set this one to false."
Surely a couple of people were engaged in all these fixes, who may have even worked a month in two weeks. Unfortunately, this is not the level that is required to capitalize on everything that people do not like. I sincerely feel sorry for the developers, and the bosses are not doing very well. Thanks to those guys who have been pushing buttons all this time, trying to give us at least some hope.

Fix added for some scatter rocks appearing to be invisible.
Yes. :D

So after suffering multiple bites from various colorful snakes, I can say that in many instances the graphics are improved in ship cockpits, concourse and other areas. However, average FPS seems to have dropped but frame stutter is noticeably reduced (smoother visuals) and FPS on glass transitions remains an issue.

Planet-wise, high reflectivity planets like ice worlds are suffering graphical glitches, and I suspect that it's connected to the existing (and possibly worsened) glass problems. Rocky worlds appear to look nicer overall.

When you have time - and that's obviously not right now - it would be nice to know what plans are in the works for fixing errors in the ship models. They're not game breaking in any way, but they tend to be of the once-seen-can't-unsee variety, and I'm looking forward to the point when effort can be spared to straighten them out.

E.g.:
Wrong manufacturer's armrest controls on Cutter pilot seat
The infamous supersized steps on the Cutter ramp (and the mirrored "Keep Clear" on the side of it)
The chair pedestal sticking out of the bottom of a Scarab once you get out of it
