Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 5

Valve index. I see the orbit lines in the first layer of FSS but not when you go deeper, like you zoom in to a gas giant and there are no orbit lines for its moons which apparently you do get in non VR mode.
Ah, ok. Personally I'm not bothered about those (I turn orbit lines off in the main game anyway). I'm not sure I've ever used the FSS outside VR! :D

I'm also getting random extreme stuttering (1-3s) in odyssey settlements after the latest patch, seems to happen fairly reliably when entering/exiting areas in/near/above power centers. Otherwise I would attribute this to terrain work lag, but I already have that turned quite low since patch 4.

Thank you for this update. Good to see more of the "beta" issues being addressed. That's been a whole heap of updates to take things in the right direction.

I'm quite sad that it's the last update we have been promised for a while. There is clearly still a mountain of work to do but apparently no more time to do it.

I wish the devs could be afforded some time to focus on all the issues in the tracker and all the suggestions. Surely all these would benefit console too.

@sallymorganmoore et al I dare say you all agree with this because you all know the sentiment on the forums. I wish they higher ups would listen.

I downloaded the last update and at first sight all seemed to be correct. Then i took six reactivation missions. Not one bloody mission of them worked. You could put in the Power regulator and start the Generator. No missions update came. I extinguished all of the fires. Nothing happened. I exterminated the Scavengers at first too. I went back in my ship. Nothing changed in the transactions log, no progess, nothing. At the next missiongoal the same. Then i throw away my nerves and exterminated them all. (The missions of course!) Tuesday (the last day i played Elite before the update) all was okay and right, all missions worked perfect!

Yep, random extreme stuttering in an EDO settlement. FPS dropped to some single digit 5-7, for about 5s or maybe a bit more, then climbed up to 35+
I was running towards my ship, so i dont even had the entire settlemen in my fov and i had to stop fearing a crash.

The number of available missions is fewer and the materials seem to be nerfed. I've been to 3 stations so far and I'm hoping this is a coincidence.
but thanks for fixing the docking menu.

This will be interesting - it makes sense narratively, but (especially combined with the "no duplicates" rule) will seriously reduce the number of these missions available and make most of them in-system only.

It makes sense not only narratively, but also BGS-wise and I am appreciating this change very much.
And I disagree that it will make most of them in-system only (though I would see now problem with it), that is true only, if the faction is only in the current system. If the faction is present in more than one system, missions can go to there.

I noticed a lower framerate too, which was already quite low to begin with since I'm playing below minimum specs.

However, it also affects supercruise, where I could get between 50 and 60 FPS even with 1x supersampling with the previous update, but between 40 and 50 with 0.75x supersampling with the new update.

It seems to drop based on the direction I'm looking at, but regardless of whether there's something or not in that direction, so it could be the new lightning that somehow is more expensive when the sun is behind the ship, or something like that.

Anyway if we consider the fact that this patch's optimizations aren't supposed to affect performances outside of settlements and stations, there definitely seems to be something wrong here.
I'm quoting myself here. I just found the new directional and spot shadow quality options, which were set to high by default even though the original option was set to low. That explains my issue.

Might be the cause to some performances drop people are experiencing, if their usual settings was either low or medium.

Just had this same problem. Very frustrated as I took a 2 week hiatus from the game in anticipation for this update. So now the missions I do the most are bugged. On top of that no real FPS improvements at all. I was getting about 20fps while at the settlement I was trying to reactivate.

I think this slider shows how many resources is dedicated to do terrain. I set it to maximum on 1050 2Gb, so it could finish things faster. Like 5-6 fps for 15s then boom, all is cool. With lowering that setting it was much longer loading, like 60 seconds of 9-12 fps. So I prefer just stand still for short loading time.
On 2060 fps drops when new objects should be added below 60 fps, like flying above new flowers.

Lucky you :p

Look what I get in a simple scavenger mission :

Edit: GPU is an RTX 3070
check if your GPU is thermo-throttling. Odyssey heats the card up a lot, it might suspend it's work or clock down for periods of time to cool off, leaving you with next to no frames. This could be the root cause of bad performance with people running odyssey on high end hardware. Would be interesting if my theory is correct.

Combat zones STILL can't hit a constant 60fps at 1080p with some settings turned down. This is on a i7-6700k, 16gb 2444mhz ram, and a GTX 1080 there is absolutely no good reason for this performance. The team has had over a month to fix things and things are so clearly broken they can't be fixed in a reasonable time frame. We paid for a full product and got shafted. Its about time Frontier comes out an admits they rushed the product and start offering refunds to those of us who were strung along this past month with the promise of patches.

Is anyone else having problems with SRV pulse skin since the update? It's just showing as a flat red for me, was fine yesterday with a lovely glow. I had not changed any display settings. bloom on ultra. Have tried changing a few settings and reverting but with no joy,

I have 2 different computers now and can compare, 1050 and 2060. Well, things are much better then it was.
Maybe you should check dust/coolers/ placement on the table so it gets cooled / BIOS ?
Elite is very sensitive for those small things, because it do "spike" calculations. When at some moments it needs x4 calculation power then it was.
