I think Frontier are listening but it's us, the community that are not listening.
There's only several ways one (Frontier) can say "We're aware of the issues, especially the performance problem and we're working hard on them. Once we have news we're let you know."
We may not like that answer and it obviously isn't the answer we want to hear but it is the current state of play.
Us asking them what's the latest on the performance issue or what are you doing to solve every it 5 minutes reminds of those really annoying managers at work who don't realise that some things take time to come up with an answer and therefore a solution.
I recently had to solve a major problem at work which everyone (or at least the annoying managers) thought it could be solved in 5 minutes but in reality it took me a week of hard work to track down the underlying cause and come up with a solution. It was just one of those tricky problems where it wasn't obvious at what was causing the problem. The cause was deeply buried.
I believe the performance issue many of us are experiencing is one of those tricky problems without an obvious cause. More likely there are several factors contributing to the bad performance and it will take weeks or possibly months to completely resolve.
I also think that it's not a great idea for Frontier to sit down and think about what to do next until the performance issue and other issues are resolved. It it possible that they have discovered that the current technology - their Cobra engine - has reached it's limits and to advance Elite further they need to do a lot of work on the engine first. So they might have decided to wait until the peformance issue is resolved and they have a better understanding on what can be achieved.
Yes, they could say to us "We would like to do this <feature>" but if they then discover it's not possible without a lot of work and money, and then decide not to ahead with it then they have to face the community shouting at them "BUT YOU PROMISED, YOU LIED AGAIN!!!".
So they are stuck between a rock and hard place - telling us what they want to do and then encountering our anger when they have to change their plans OR not telling us what they want to do until they are certain it's possible and encountering our anger over them not telling us anything.
We, the community need to stand back and give them some breathing space. Let Frontier get on with working on the issues. Stop being one of those annoying managers that are hounding the workers every 5 minutes for an update.
Sorry for this long post, and many will probably disagree with what I've said, but it's something I feel strongly about because I do suffer from annoying managers at work sometimes and it doesn't help anyone.
Ok, back to lurking and enjoying Elite: Odyssey.
