re: Statement on Harassment

I worked in customer service years ago. If a customer was being personally abusive towards us we'd have every right to terminate the call. And I did that many times.

If they threatened us, the police got involved.

No one deserves personal abuse. Ever.

PS I was also a trainer on a call centre and if an angry customer was angry at the company and one of our call centre ops gave them "bare minimum service" as punishment for being angry, that op probably wouldn't be working for us for long.
I have also worked in customer-facing roles and yeah, exactly the same. Someone calls with a complaint that's fine - it's what you're there for. Someone feels that expressing that by telling you that you're a worthless human being, or should be assaulted is OK... click

Hey all,
Interesting to read the discussions here. Thought I'd clear a couple of things up :)

Q: Does this mean Frontier is now censoring all negative feedback?
A: Nope! You can still share constructive negative feedback just as everyone has always been able to.

Q: My brother's roommate's pen-pal's cousin got banned for sharing perfectly reasonable comments!
A: If action is taken against a post there will have been reasonable grounds for that. As always though anyone who thinks incorrect actions were taken can appeal via the 'Appealing a Moderation Action' section of the rules.

Q: I disagreed with a Moderator decision and my post was removed! CENSORSHIP!!
A: It's against the rules to contest moderator decisions on the forums because it disrupts the discussion and doesn't help in dealing with the issue. If you don't agree with a Mod decision either use the 'Appealing a Moderation Action' process in the forum rules or you can report their post if you believe it to be against the rules.

This new statement doesn't actually change what you can and cannot post on the forums. You can still be critical, you can still say you aren't happy, but if someone believes the only way they can do that is to make personal attacks then they simply aren't welcome on the forums.

Just wanna chip in and (again thank you and all the other Mods and CM's Paul o7

I'm sure a lot of angst over this would have been avoided if FD had offered refunds instead of their current 'tough luck' stance.
If it was a topic on us criticising the state of the game and providing negative feedback then I'd agree. If you're going to attack individual employees that's a different story, especially since the CMs (for example) have no input at all on the quality assurance side or on decisions on release dates. It's like hurling abuse at someone digging up a road to lay pipework that the long term planning of highways and motorways doesn't account for future urban development.

Of course that doesn't mean that insults and abuse have a place in any other dialogue either.

If, post Alpha evaluation, they owned the state of the game and the issues it has, and launched the game as Early access - they would have gotten a way better deal out of it with the potential of even bigger Hype Buildup for the big Autumn Launch.
Instead of that they got 23% approval rate on Steam for the last 30 days...

To be honest, I don't understand the purpose of that statement. Was abuse being tolerated before? Has the threshold been changed?

If the rules haven't changed, why make an announcement about it? To create a chilling effect? To evoke compassion and stifle the anger about a botched release? Damage control?

Seems we’re getting to the point in the conversation where all the conspiracy theories start popping up.

A friend of a friend know someone who saw the mods ban someone for sneezing at their keyboard. It was on Facebook so it must be true.

I miss the times when all it needed was a bloke down the pub to anchor a conspiracy theory. These days I have to pretend I have a Facebook account and that just feels icky.
