Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

Enough time passed since launch that they should play other games too. They can't stream only 1 game.

If Fdev does more FPS optimization, bug fixes, improvements and add new content to Odyssey then they'll stream it again.

I think many will be back anyway before then, because E: D is still their core audience. Obsidian Ant just did a video today (possibly taking notes from this thread that he participated in earlier ;) ) which started off a new monthly series on "The State of the Game".

Although he'll still make E: D videos, I felt there was a bit of a hint in his voice that there will be fewer for now... might be wrong. Be interesting to see if he still does his 330X series.

but this is what a survival game is all about - that is why I'm playing it, because of it's micromanagement and the aspect of permanent struggle - this is not grind in my books, but desirable game play.
It's interminably dull 70's dayglo minecraft with hopping mushrooms.

The argument was that he was refused the key because of his swearing being incompatible with the PEGI rating.

Not heard that one. I know that's the reason the mods used for banning his videos being posted on here.

I think it's, as Erei says, he was considered "bad for business". Which is typically counter-productive from FDev IMO, since he was always going to say what he thought anyway. Whereas other "acceptable" streamers are sent goody bags and not him, and are dipping their toes into other games (E: D's direct 'competitors' no less), Yamiks is the only notable one that has stuck purely with E: D. 🤷‍♀️

I think the comment I've heard around many places now "the Game is at a Crossroads" is absolutely correct.

The Decisionmakers now have two simple Options - none of which are easy.
  • ignore everything and continue as if nothing happened, allowing the Game and their Reputation to tank further and indeed risk crossing the rubicon... invalidating and trashing several years of hard work over a single, huge mistake
  • take a deep breath, allocate a significant amount of Resources (yes, that likely means delaying other IP) and give Odyssey alot more content. This requires Odyssey to be treated like a Season and be given a RoadMap. And I mean a real RoadMap, a solid plan which should likely include the Community (most-requested Features and QOL improvements).

Right now, I'm not seeing any RoadMap. Just Confusion and Damage Control.
The major additional Problem is : time is now working against them and is running out. Tic-Toc. Tic-Toc. Tic-Toc.

Essentially their only Option at this critical junction is to pull a "NMS recovery". That requires Determination, Resources, Creativity and Time.
btw. another brute-force series of discounts or free giveaways won't work. No Player retention. And exactly that is needed, not only to sell Store Items.
Galaxy needs persistent or ideally a growing population, even moreso in this ultra-fragmented and scattered-across-a-Million-Instances P2P ELITE.

That's OK, I've given up on most of the "big" Elite streamers by unsubscribing from them.
My subscriptions will be saved for the "small" Elite streamers that could do with the subs.
I subscribe to people because I like them and I like their content. Obsidian Ant and Drew Wager are two people I would get along with swimmingly IRL, because they are just good, fun, nice, lovable geeks IMO. Watching Drew play NMS for the first time was a real treat, and I'm not even a huge NMS fan. I also think that when they critique Elite Dangerous, they do so respectfully, even though I might not agree with every single critique.

I've shelved ED for the foreseeable future, so I actually like watching my ED streamers introduce me to new games like Star Citizen. However I am glad that Buur Pit remains focused on ED, because he does a really good job at giving a concise yet concrete report on what is happening in the world of Elite. This allows me to keep tabs on the game without watching the forum 24x7.

For those suggesting that CCs like OA are ruining Elite, I strongly disagree. I would not even be here right now if not for Obsidian Ant's channel, which introduced me to Elite to begin with. OA is like the friend who introduced me to the girl who would become my wife, and later my ex-wife. He was the best man at my wedding (metaphorically speaking) and he's been a great friend during the divorce. Now he's helping me find some other girls to date. Metaphors aside, OA has made very little money by showing me ED content, whereas Frontier has sold me three copies of Horizons and tons of cosmetics thanks to OA's channel, so the hate some people have towards him and some other CCs is misplaced.

Sorry, but that's not true. The only thing you can't buy cheaply in a market is Carbon. So you still have to punch trees, unless you refine something back into carbon. Everything else you can buy in the market so you never have to resource gather again - including starship fuel and dihydrogen to make it.

You can also buy an upgrade to your ship to take launch fuel from sunlight, so even then it's a rare purchase.

Only the VERY early game is a bit grindy. After about 3 hours in, you're away.
I didn't know that, thanks. I've not played for a while, so things have clearly changed. Good for them, I may even install it again at some point then.
