Odyssey Going Forwards

The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly

I'm curious what feedback they think they have heard "clearly".

And I'm very curious to see what fixes / features they decide to prioritize, and how. There's certainly no one clear "the community has spoken" on that front.

Love how this community turned on console.
We’ve been here spending real money for 4 years building this community and PC crowd turns us at the drop of a hat.
Perfect.
Of for...

Nobody's turning on consoles. People are simply pointing out that getting the thing fixed should be a priority before its released to consoles. Or would you prefer they stick to the release date, and you end up with a console port of a game with such a known list of issues?

As a PS4 User I am quite happy for the dev team to work on the PC launch first then roll out to consoles.. I can wait for the product to be ready to play. Why would they want to release the same issues to consoles or, even worse, do a sloppy patch up the PC problems under pressure and create more issues down the line. Seems like a sound decision to me!
You could read it from a different point of view. Before they were commiting to keep you updated on Console progress, now they don't have to post anything for the next who knows how many months. While they could still go with their old schedual of working on both PC and Console. Less headache for them.

Some words about what's after Odyssey could go a long way. A lot of players have lost faith in the dev team, and they're not sure if you can deliver on your Kickstarter promises.
Fixing the product you're selling really isn't at all surprising, and not selling a broken product on consoles is again not surprising. That's common sense which was somehow completely lost before your launched this expansion.
That list hasn't really changed. Once Odyssey is a bit more stable (in features as well as otherwise) it is time to think about the next step.

Why not an in game survey?
Ship interiors or landable thick atmo planets next?

IN GAME, not on the boards, not on any social media, in the game client, shown to everyone that plays the game.

But that is a suggestion for late 2022 when design work on the next expansion begins.

Meanwhile there is a story arc to work on (which will have delays because of delays for consoles), and the unknown planned content for Odyssey. Once the release is finished in 3-4 months.

Regarding the OP by Mr. Braben, this could not have come at a better time for me. As someone who has played Elite from ‘84 on an old Commodore 64 till now, I have to say that just this morning I sadly had admitted to myself that I didn’t enjoy ED anymore and have been looking for another game. Your post this morning has given me pause. The community has been very vocal about performance issues and it appears you will be acting on it. I can’t wait!

As a console commander I am gutted but I'm ultimately not surprised given the difficulties seen with the PC release. One thing I would ask is for you to take a more considered approach regarding the ports to both the Xbox Series X/S and PS5. This HW is so much more capable than the base and enhanced versions of their predecessors and to have a downgraded experience on them would be truly disappointing.

Greetings Commanders.

With the release of Update 5 on 1st July plus a few smaller server updates since, and Update 6 currently in development, I wanted to take a moment of your time to talk about the next steps for Elite Dangerous.

We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey. The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.

As you may remember in our recent development article, the significant amount of updates and development effort that has been done to fix and improve issues since the launch of Odyssey has meant work on our console release has not progressed as quickly as we had hoped. What’s more, we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.

With those things in mind, we have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more. We know that the work that we do to improve players’ experiences of Elite Dangerous Odyssey on PC will benefit other platforms in the future, but the dates and details of the console platforms are going to change. We do not want to rush into confirming any dates or changes this has on our console release, as we must remain fully focused on the core Elite experience. Only when we feel that the foundation of the PC release is solid, will we be able to re-lay our console roadmap on top.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right, before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

We will continue to give open monthly development updates where we discuss WIP content, challenges, the issue tracker and more. We know that the previous levels of detail for the roadmap and developer update have not met expectations, but we are grateful for your patience while we shift and adjust plans, in the face of such clear feedback.

Please remember that our team here at Frontier are working hard to support the game and our community. Behind every bug fix, design decision and community post is a person who cares a lot about giving our players best possible experience. I would ask that everyone remains calm and respectful when sharing their thoughts and feedback.

We all have the same goal and we will get there, together. Please bear with us.

o7 Commanders.

Thanks for the update :) It's good to have confirmation there is an intention to address the issues with the Odyssey PDLC thank you.

I look forward to reading news on long term development plans in the near future, it has been a long time since those kickstarter videos and I'm sure there have been changes to the plan that was laid out nearly a decade ago now.

Thanks for the update. As fans of the game we appreciate and understand frontiers commitment to keeping plot spoilers, exciting announcements etc, from leaking early, and we understand the desire to not promise features before you know you can deliver. We also understand that this update took a lot of work, and the team needs to be compensated fairly for the time they spent on it.

all that being said you have a lot of work to do in regards to convincing myself and others that this 40 USD$ dlc is actually worth the 40 bucks. In terms of roadmaps going forward we need solid assurances that significant content is coming, not just fixing what’s broken. As odyssey stands currently, I don’t think I’m alone in saying I feel a bit underwhelmed by not only the polish but the content as well.
