Odyssey Going Forwards

It's really unfortunate that all Odyssey turned out to be for release, is a semi-stable platform to roll out expensive weapons and suit cosmetics. I'm courteous enough to thank you for the update on where console release will be BUT this is just the same "going through the motions" Frontier has postured to the community.

What happened to the marketing that this was the biggest update ever to hit Elite Dangerous? Clearly overhyped marketing.

Its pretty shameful and a disservice to the core active player base (BGS and Poweplay) that actually give Frontier its login numbers each day.

Really this update is just to show there was a message from Frontier, so some content creator 6 months from now can't use it as ammo, that there were no community updates on the forum.

Thanks for the update, but please .. Could you (pretty please) explain this:
I'm playing in VR (looking around mode) in the whole game, flying is amazing !!
.. except that, now, on foot I need to look at a big screen in front of me.
When I enter freecam (also on foot), strangely, I am able to look around !
.. what would it take to just enable (I guess it's more about 'allowing') us to look around in VR on foot?! ..
I'm not a developer, but I imagine: not much! .. everything is there to make it work ! (that's what's frustrating!)
I (personally) don't need all the standup and room and controller stuff, I'm not going to get up when I land, to go on foot then sit back down to fly .. I'll stay seated the whole game. (I promise)
You should see (as conceptor) that '3D vision' is like mandatory in this game .. as Elite "IS" in 3D ..
Why this refusal to simply enable 3D view ?!
Why not give us perspective (> heh) for a bright Oddyssey in 3D, on foot?

Thank you for the update.
And for being honest about the console delay. I don't think console players want the same experience many pc players had since the Odyssey launch.
Glad to see and hear that you guys are on it and that you are setting priorities to make Elite the game it deserves to be!

Fly dangerously o7

A welcome post, but oh to have been a fly on the wall at those meetings............... time will tell whether we see these WIP details, seems we've been down this road before, many times before.

Thanks, I did not see how Odyssey on console(s) would work with Odyssey on PC as it is now, other than to pile on further grief and a more complicated solutions for FDev.

I'm 6.5 years in to my own 'odyssey' here at Elite Dangerous (cheeky).

Awesome and all. But the grind. Still no changes. The grind is the reason me and many of my friends basically play less now that odyssey is out than we did in horizons
Grind for the sake of grind is not content. Needing the only effective but STILL too grindy way to do something is not acceptable.

I will not come back until the insanity that is trying to upgrade things is removed. I just want a suit and weapons that have functionality like backpack space (shouldn't even be a thing) or night vision or better jetpack. But it's the worst grind I've seen in a game since... Well... Engineers 1.0 and guardian weapons.

Time spent is not equal to fun had.

This is good. We'll believe it when we see it.
I love this game and somehow, amazingly, I haven't turned hopelessly pessimistic. I even said that as VR player, lol!

The only real promise I want to see made and kept by the man himself is future content -- patches, expansions, etc -- won't get pushed out broken for the sake of meeting quotas.
Odyssey has needed over a month of all-hands-on-deck weekly updates to fix most of the issues with more coming, and its performance is still subpar.

Thanks CMDR Braben!

This is a good move. Considering the frustration and problems the PC community has had to shoulder, I don't wish that on our console peers and while it sucks they'll be waiting longer, I believe it's both a good thing in the long run and also not a surprise.

In regards to fixes, refinement, and new content, I'm hoping that it makes things better in all aspects of the game. I still want to see some confirmation that ship interiors are back on the roadmap somewhere. And concourses for Fleet Carriers for that matter. While arguments to gameplay value have varying degrees of merit, from the understanding that the entire exploration branch of the game thus far is just "honk and scan" and fly around looking at things (at least until the addition of the exobiology minigame), it's clear that even interiors that don't really do much are still worth making. This is a SIM game. Immersion is one of its best aspects, and being able to move around in our huge ships is a major aspect of that immersion. Running on the landing pad also serves no gameplay purpose, but appreciating the scale and detail on the ships is a delight to folks that play for the immersion. To say nothing of all the money that FDev could make selling interior cosmetics, and could enhance on-foot gameplay with mission and CG rewards for interior spaces only attainable through on-foot missions. People like playing make-believe house (Animal Crossing and Farmville being prime examples of the principal), and considering how much people love their ships (rightly so!) being able to really customize its insides like we do the outsides would be amazing. Think of the pilgrimage to Hutton to buy the mug in game- a huge number of players would do it.

Anyways, keep up the good work, keep up the bug squashing and thank you for the more open communication. Things are rocky but there's a lot that's moving in the right direction.
